MEJORAS/NEW FEATURES / Re: LĂnea de cobertura
April 11, 2024, 01:50:03 PM
Hello nortasuna,

when recording a track, the symbol in picture 1 indicates, that the network state is being added to the recorded track.
The track is shown with the colors for the slope by default. You can tap on the track and chose the network state with the button in picture 2.

BETAS / Re: New beta 10.5.x

Hello Orux,
the names of waypoints (also the altitude of the highest/lowest point) belonging to a route are displayed incorrectly in beta 10. Waypoints of a track are shown correctly.

Hello Orux,
among the "other minor changes" in beta 7 I found out that the "straight lines" option in the route planner ads intermediate points and thus fits the route to the landscapes surface. This is really great and makes route planning with longer off road sections really comfortable! Thanks a lot Orux.

When planning routes two really important parameters (at least for me) are the distance and the elevation gain. When you start the route planner these items are hidden by default and when you show them you lose a lot of the map with the sliders for highway/surface and graph. Maybe you could think about showing the route parameters by default and place the sliders above them (hidden by default).

Maybe you also could take a look at the elevation gain and loss calculation. When you plan a round trip with the route planner there are big differences in gain and loss which should be zero (or at least close to zero because of rounding errors). I tried it with some routes with a length of about 10 - 12 km an an elevation gain of 1000-1200 m which led to differences between 90 to nearly 200 m depending on the terrain. Even after an altitude correction with Sonny's DEM files the differences were huge. But when i joined the segments everything was ok.

Best regards
Martin

Hello orux!!
I see that in the last two betas you have removed the buttons to add layers, draw layers, delete layers that were previously in the layer settings dropdown.
At first I didn't think much of it, but then I realized that I had replaced those 3 buttons on my keypad with the layer adjustment button.
Which gave me flexibility. I know that those features can be accessed in a variety of ways.
I don't know how this influences other users, I don't particularly Bother  buttons.

I absolutely agree with Tronpo. In my opinion the buttons in the layer settings are a great way to add easy access to functions while saving space at the same time.

Hello Orux,

first of all I want to thank you for constantly adding and developing great functions in Oruxmaps. The new route planner is absolutely great and so is the layer manager. The new layout in the tracks list offers a much better overview about the basic information of the tracks. And then there are small changes like the possibility to switch the coordinate format in the dashboard by long pressing and many others which make Oruxmaps the best app (imho) for hiking and cycling.

I have some suggestions for the route planner:

  • You could add the possibility to switch between Oruxmaps and BRouter routing profiles directly in the route planner (see attached picture), so the route planner will be even more flexible.
  • Maybe you could reduce the space between the symbols and the text a little bit, so that you can see more of the map even with the route planner drawer fully open (see attached picture).
  • The straight line function should offer the possibility to add intermediate points automatically just like in the create by hand tool.
  • In the tweaks menu an option to remember the tweaks settings would be great.

and another suggestion for the viewshed tool:

  • The function to switch between the coloring of visible/non-visible areas in the ground overlay menu (where you can change the opacity) would be perfect.

Regards

Hi Haldo,
you have to copy the the profile file om2_name.xml into the folder /oruxmaps/preferences/4.2/ and then refresh the profiles list in Oruxmaps (top right: circle with two arrows) as the new profiles aren't recognized on startup.

I'm sorry but I do not use AM. On my Windows pc I use the beta from this forum.
You can also try the beta with your data in the public storage. When you succeed in reinstalling the AM version, you can use it with the same folder as the beta. At least the beta and the GP version can use the same folder on my smartphone.

Hello ut,
on Windows 10 you have to use an emulator (e.g Bluestacks), which doesn't work too good for me. You can also use a virtual machine with Android in Virtual Box. This works quite well but is not so easy to set up.

On Windows 11 you can install WSA (Windows Subsystem for Android) and either install apps from the Amazon store (no Google Playstore available) or APK-files you copy to WSA. A lot of apps run quite smooth and starting them is as easy as starting a Windows program.

Hello George,

you don't have to create the /storage/emulated/0/oruxmaps/-folder manually. Use global settings - app storage - move data to public folders in Oruxmaps and the content of the private folder will be copied to /storage/emulated/0/oruxmaps/. Oruxmaps copies your maps, themes, db etc. but does not move them (at least in my case). So I deleted the content of the private folder /Android/data/com.orux.oruxmapsbeta (I have the GP version on my smartphone and the beta on my Windows pc).

I must admit, I have never taken a look at the size of the vhdx-file - but I will tonight.

Hello George,
first you have to set a shared folder in the WSA settings: Advanced Settings - Experimental Features - Share user folders
Now you have a folder called 'Windows ' in the Android (WSA) file browser. Via this folder you can share files between Windows and Android (WSA).

In Oruxmaps you can set the permission to access all folders (Global settings - App storage). Now you can move your data to a public folder (Global settings - App storage). In the file browser you can copy your data to the new oruxmaps folder (/storage/emulated/0/oruxmaps/).

You can also copy apk-files from your phone to into the shared folder and thus install apps which are not available in Amazon Store.

The elevation gain and loss and the heights (highest/lowest point on route) of these straight lines is also not added to the statistics.

Hello G_flow,
a "<" is missing at the beginning of line 44 - add it and it will work.

GENERAL / Re: battery charge indicator

Hello G_flow,
you can add the battery information in the dashboard:

global settings - user interface - dashboard - dashboard controls - device battery

In the same way you can also add the time and then get rid of the android status bar to have more space for the map:

global settings - user interface - miscellaneous ui - status bar (hide android status bar)

Hello Matthias,
have you ever tried what I suggested in the OpenAndroMaps forum:
save your settings in a profile (so you can go back to your preferences) and load Oruxmaps' default profile. Sometimes errors are based in a defective profile and can't be reproduced by others.
