GENERAL / How to lock the screen with north up?
July 25, 2014, 05:08:20 PM
Hello,

lately I keep flipping the map by twisting it by multy-touching the screen. I hate that, especially 'cause I can't find how to put it back as it was quickly, without entering "map mode -> north up" again.

Is there a way to quickly restore the map as it should appear in the overwhelming majority of occasions? Or, even better, to LOCK it that way?

I searched the "maps" settings but I could not find anything related.

Many thanks!!

That.

One coult take a long time to download a map from a slow WMS server. It is enough to tap its name for one second or two and bang! the map is deleted. No confirmation asked, no whatever. Gone!

Please add a pop-up window to ask "are you sure you want to delete the map XXX"?

Thank you! :D

With MOBAC it is possible to create big maps, but the FAT filesystem only allows files up to 4GB to be created.

Why not to allow a map to span over multiple (like, two, or more!) database files?

This way we would be unlimited in the size of our maps and we could download some big maps before heading towards a long vacation abroad where connectivity will be limited or non-existant.

Thank you!

MEJORAS/NEW FEATURES / Map creator improvements
July 10, 2014, 11:36:26 AM
I'd like to have a "pause" and "resume" button. For instance, I want to leave home (and then my wifi) for one hour or more and then get back and resume the download.

If I hit "cancel" it just asks me to DELETE what's downloaded so far, so I never interrupt a download - this sometimes is not handy, I once left home without the phone so to allow the download to finish.

Also, please give the option for oruxmaps to stay active in the tray icon bar on the top when downloading. In this case I can happily do other tasks without being afraid of the download being interrupted. Often the process gets killed if I do other tasks and I don't notice that until I open it again and I have to resume the download.

Thank you :)

ERRORES/BUGS / Missing "what's new"
July 09, 2014, 10:36:18 PM
Perhaps it is only me, but it's a long time I don't get anything in the "what's new" window at any update.

So I thought it were only bugfixes.

I just discovered, though, that now upload to OpenStreetmap is supported!

This is great, but it would be nice to know that when updating rather than randomly perhaps a long time later (I had to reset my GPSies credentials and I saw the new OSM there).

Also if there are only bugfixes it would be nice to know.

I know that any coder hates to write documentation, but please! :)

Thanks

I recently joined a Google+ community for an app I use quite often, "you are your own gym" - that's the second app I use the most after oruxmaps.

I applied to join a beta test group and like that I just receive updates of the beta from the play store.

Anything similar would come handy I think.

Every single update of OruxMaps we are presented with a warning that the "onlinemapsources.xml" is going to be replaced.

I suspect this is a bug and that message is not necessary any longer. Is that correct?

At least, there should be a check if the file is the very same of the one installed, and if so, not to present any pop-up message.

What do you think about it? Thanks :)

Hello,

I often change phone and I always have to manually change the paths for Oruxmaps according to how the sdcard is referenced in the phone, like

/extsdcard

/storage/sdcard1/

and the like.

So every time, one by one, I have to edit the DEM directory, the map folder, the map styles...

What about setting ONE root for all, then each user could customize single paths if needed?

Thanks.

Hello,

this has been discussed a long time ago in the old forum. http://oruxmaps.foroactivos.net/t3292-qgis-plugin-for-export-to-orux-is-it-possible">http://oruxmaps.foroactivos.net/t3292-q ... t-possible">http://oruxmaps.foroactivos.net/t3292-qgis-plugin-for-export-to-orux-is-it-possible

Unfortunately the thread stalled.

What about it? Orux, did you get the test map to see if you're able to support it?

Thank you very much.

MAPAS/MAPS / Is this a new DEM?
June 13, 2014, 02:52:19 PM
I just stumbled upon *this* and it looks very interesting.

What do you think about it?

GENERAL / New updates, same versions?
April 12, 2014, 09:54:18 AM
I don't know if it is a problem with my phone, if it is, sorry for bothering. :)

I got something like three or maybe four OruxMaps (donate version, if that may matter) updates in the last two months.

The point is, I keep getting the same version number and changelog (5.5.18).

Is it my phone going mad (although this is happening only with OruxMaps!) or there are some updates that are going undocumented (and that would be odd too!)

Thanks so much!

MEJORAS/NEW FEATURES / Usability tip for openandromaps
February 11, 2014, 02:02:06 PM
Perhaps the openandromaps themes should be provided in bundle with Oruxmaps itself. They are lightweight and they are a great chance to improve the layouts of the maps to suite every person taste and need.

Also, I would place the "change map layout" option under the "maps" menu, rather than under "tweaks". I find it more natural.

Thanks for caring and keep up the great job! ;)

Hello,

I have now a phone with a "phisical" menu button and no "search" button.

Believe it or not, I can't find the "search" button so to geocode any locality and searching for places by panning and zooming is quite often a big pain guess where, especially if I'm searching for small villages.

Can you please fix this by adding the option? Or, is it there already and I am such a dumbass not to be able to find it?

Whatever is the case, thank you very much!

ERRORES/BUGS / "error calibrating barometer!".
February 01, 2014, 11:13:34 PM
I can't calibrate my altitude. I always get that error.

The barometer is working, if I show its readings in the dashboard it does shows a value.

Please help ;)

Thanks!

Sorry if this has been asked before.

I just downloaded a .gpx track on my mobile and I tapped it to open it.

I was proposed several apps to choose from, some unrelated, some relevant, like Locus. But, Oruxmaps wasn't among them.

I think it would really came handy to be able to tap a saved track and open it in Oruxmaps - to import it in its database, for instance, or to load it as is (that could be asked at launch).

What do you think?

Thank you!

ERRORES/BUGS / Upload to... annihilated by phone call
December 14, 2013, 08:17:24 PM
You are about to upload your latest track to gpsies.com (or wherever).

You accurately fill on all the details, name, type, nice description.

THEN your girlfriend calls.

At the end of a call, all the data you entered is LOST! :-(

They really should be simply related to the part of the map you're browsing.

So that I could realize the sunset time for that place I'll visit tomorrow,

or simply check the times if I am indoor and I don't want to get out and wait for a GPS fix.

Thanks :)

MEJORAS/NEW FEATURES / Business! Sell in-app maps
November 22, 2013, 10:55:47 PM
Hey,

I was searching for a good map for the Kalymnos island. Unfortunately openstreetmap lacks a lot there (although I'll contrib once I'll be back ;) ).

Some reviews says that the best maps are these: http://www.terrainmaps.gr/index.php?l=en#index">http://www.terrainmaps.gr/index.php?l=en#index

And guess what, they also sell them for mobile devices, via the ViewRanger app: http://www.terrainmaps.gr/index.php?l=en#smartphoneapps">http://www.terrainmaps.gr/index.php?l=en#smartphoneapps

Needless to say, I would had LOVED to buy it from withing OruxMaps and use it in my favorite app rather than getting a separate app.

It looks to me like this could be a neat idea to have legal downloads of quality maps and perhaps for the author to make some money.

What do you think?

ERRORES/BUGS / Error geocoding! Again :)
November 09, 2013, 10:55:43 PM
This one is really haunting me :)

It was solved, then now, again, I cannot geocode anymore. It does not matter if on (good) wi-fi or 3G, I can't find even super simple queries as "Madrid".

Perhaps a more detailed string than "error geocoding!" could help to debug what is the cause of this?

Thanks so much!
