I've made some beta versions for the new upcoming Oruxmaps version which uses mapsforge 0.4. They are tested with RC2 from this thread: http://www.oruxmaps.com/foro/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2054">//http://www.oruxmaps.com/foro/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2054

I tried to get the rendering as close as possible to how it is in the current version of Oruxmaps which is using mapsforge 0.3

As I don't have a device with 480dpi the XL themes are only tested in an emulator, so if anyone could give me feedback if they work as expected on real 480dpi devices would be great!

Here they are:

Hi Tobias,

I made a short test with my galaxy s4.

Sorry, there was some bug in the script that generates the variations. It should work now!

6745th@web.de

After deleting the cache and downloading and installing the theme the Forrest is......

Still white. ZL15

Did you upload the changed theme?

Thomas

eartrumpet

Sorry again and thanks for your patience. Shouldn't do this when I'm too tired.

I tested and uploaded everything, now it should work.

Now the Forrest is green again :-)

Danke.

Hello,

I updated the Elevate themes today.

The biggest news: there are now special versions for the new OruxMaps 6.0 version, which was published yesterday.

As it renders many details in different sizes because of the used mapsforge 0.4 version, the new OruxMaps themes are optimized for that. Also with OruxMaps 6.0 the themes (and maps) can now easily installed, just use your Android browser and press on "Install".

All changes:

2.3.0 18/11/14

- added themes optimized for OruxMaps 6

- optimized rendering for mapsforge 0.4+

- moved large patterns to lower zoom levels

- changed motorway_junction, peak rendering zoom 13 and lower, track casings

- added map border

Best regards,

Tobias

Many thanks Tobias for this. I want to try it but I am confused about the need of XL versions for high DPI devices (using nexus 5 here).

Do I need a specific XL version or just the link in the first post of this thread is fine?

Thanks.

EDIT: forget my question. I see now that this new version is pushed already to openandroidmaps so I can get all resolutions!!! ;)

Hi Tobias,

I noticed that some icons disappear when the zoom decreases. However I do not understand why some of them do before others.

For instance, in this example the drinking water icon disappears as the zoom is decreased before the restaurant icon:

Is there a way to change the priority of icons so they stay on the screen longer? I am more interested in some of them more than others!!

Regards,

In this example it's just bad luck that the restaurant icon is shown and drinking water not.

It's a bit complicated:

Zoom level 16 in the new Oruxmaps version means real zoom level 15 in the map. At this level both icons can be visible, but in a crowded area only one will show if there is space. So the farther you decrease the zoom level, the less icons are visible. At the mapsforge version Oruxmaps uses there is no real priority management possible, you can only limit at which zoom levels icons are shown. So if you set zoom-min in the xml-file for restaurants to zoom-min="16" or larger, the restaurant symbol won't appear and can't eliminate the drinking water.

Best regards,

Tobias

Many thanks for the explanation. I will try your suggestion and modify directly the XML.

There is a new test version Elevate 2.4.0

The biggest changes are new map appearance for buildings, place names, motorways and primary highways and state borders and new improved rendering of routes with a separate color for local hiking routes.

All changes:

2.4.0 20/12/14

– new appearance – changed colors/rendering for: buildings/wall/retaining_wall/dam etc., motorways/primary highways/motorway junctions/highway refs, place names, admin borders, peak names, pattern for pedestrian roads/areas etc.

– enhanced routes: added seperate color for local hiking routes (yellow), better visibility of route refs, some fine-tuning

– added separate rendering for MTB-scale 5+6, water_well, ele for cave_entrance, inhabited landuses color for lower zooms

– optimized low zoom markers, major highway casings

– loosened dy value for OruxMaps so higher dpi themes can be used on lower dpi devices (e.g. 240dpi on 160dpi) and font-size a bit enlarged with OruxMaps setting

– limited paths/footway/steps/MTB-scale to zoom 13+

– removed POI areas with tunnel=yes

– combined all accompanying .txt-files

Elevate 2.4 has been released today.

It's a major update for general map appearance. The goal was to make the map a bit calmer for all those elements which are not so important for hiking/cycling etc. So the colors for inhabited areas, buildings, airports, borders etc. have been toned down. Highway rendering has been overhauled, as well as place names, so that villages and hamlets are easier to distinguish from towns and cities. Many other changes were made to optimize the appearance.

A second major change is the improvements of routes. Local hiking routes now have a seperate color (yellow), so it's easier to follow a regional/local route now. Route refs are more visible.

In the OruxMaps versions the distance of captions to symbols are now larger, so it is possible to use larger variations of the theme on devices with less dpi. Or to resize captions a bit without losing elevation information.

Those and more changes can be found as always in the changelog.

All downloads can be found as usual on the Elevate theme page: http://www.openandromaps.org/en/legend/elevate-mountain-hike-theme">//http://www.openandromaps.org/en/legend/elevate-mountain-hike-theme, quick installation is highly recommended.

To illustrate the changes in map appearance I attached some comparisons to Elevate 2.3:
