ERRORES/BUGS / Re: All recorded tracks disappeared

Hello!
The tracks databases, the oruxmapstracks.db files, cannot be in any folder.

They can only be in two locations:

--/Android/data/com.orux..../tracklogs/ if the app has not been authorized to access all the files
--/sdcard/oruxmaps/tracklogs/ if the app has been authorized to access all files.

It is a delicate file, it requires very quick access. SDs, although fast, are x10 or even slower than internal storage.

The directory that is managed in configuration > app storage > Tracks directory is for the gpx, kml,... but not for the databases.

orux

Thank you very much for explanation. Sorry for late reply, I've had pretty difficult few weeks in my life and I completely forgot about OruxMaps and biking in general.

It's been a while, but from what I remember, here is what likely happened: I moved everything to SD using button in OruxMaps. Then I was confused why not everything got moved and I assumed that the process got somehow interrupted. So I have moved rest manually. What then followed could only be describing as chaos and moving files around and backing stuff up and recovering backups and changing settings manually. Knowing that database file location is constant explains everything.

May I suggest adding information dialog that would explain what exactly would happen when you press migrate to SD and warning dialog to inform user to keep the database file on it's current location when you tap the "tracklogs" button to change path? Maybe it would save few sleepless nights for someone else  :D . Having option to change the paths just calls for someone moving things around and doing something unexpected.

ERRORES/BUGS / All recorded tracks disappeared
January 13, 2024, 04:47:06 PM
Hello,

all my recorded tracks are missing from the app. Here is what I know:

  • I've migrated from internal storage to SD card recently using OruxMaps app.
  • After migration I might have replaced the folder by copying over the oruxmaps folder from internal storage, as I have realized that I have some unrelated files like .gpx or other random files I want to have on the SD card too.
  • I don't remember if I have tested if everything works properly after migration.
  • All the directories in the settings point to the SD card (see the attached screenshot).
  • In tracklog menu I see only single folder named @All
  • The oruxmaps/tracklogs folder on sd-card contains oruxmapstracks.db which has 165MB. If I open it using file-browser I use on the phone, it shows the table tracks contains 534 rows. Table folders contains three rows, one has folname equal to ---, other two have names of folders I have used for different things. It appears that all the data is still present in the database and settings of the app point to folder with the correct database.

This is everything I know. I'm sorry, I know it's not much, if I can provide some additional info, let me know. I'm not sure if the issue was caused by some of my steps when moving the db, or some update, or something else, so I have mentioned it just in case.

Please help with fixing the issue.

MEJORAS/NEW FEATURES / Re: BRouter Integration

It would be great if Brouter could be used as you describe. With Brouter, OruxMaps is fully functional bike navigation, but profile mapping is confusing for new users.

GENERAL / SOS SMS feature
January 17, 2019, 07:43:04 PM
Some time ago, OruxMaps removed SOS feature because of new Google Play policy. I think SOS feature could be very useful feature for people who for example bike alone, and maybe it could save lives. Is there any way Oruxmaps will try to combat this? From what I read, there should be option to apply for exception in certain cases. Or maybe Oruxmaps could be distributed in another way. It's shame that developers have to pay Google for their stupid store because they have monopoly, and in return, Google applies this tyranny.

Thank you for reply. Today, I was trying to bisect which versions work, so I have downloaded 7.3.0 and it worked. 7.3.2 worked and 7.3.4 worked. (In this order. I kept changes made by each version.) I was bit confused, but I'm happy that everything works.

Hello,

I have recently bought new phone so I need to migrate old tracks. I have copied /sdcard/oruxmaps from old phone to new phone. When I start app or open tracklogs, I get this error toast message: Error in SQLite Tracks database!. No tracks are shown. Please give me any advice how can I fix this or find problem.

Old phone:

LG G3, LineageOS 14.1 (Android 7)

OruxMaps 7.2.5 from website

New phone:

LG G7, Android 8

OruxMaps 7.3.4 from store

Note: I get same error message when starting new version even with clean install and no oruxmaps directory. (Possibly because it's before asking for permission to access files.)

Note2: I can't install version from old phone to new phone to try if it would work, because I don't have .apk.

EDIT: I found 7.2.5 on official Oruxmaps website. It works, so there is some difference between those versions.

Hi,

Would it be possible to add setting of number of tiles to render? (Increasing it would probably consume more battery, so don't change default setting.)

Possible uses:

  • When you are using vector maps and scrolling too look at neighboring areas, it is really slow. Higher setting would make moving map much nicer experience if surrounding areas are pre-rendered.
  • I sometimes change zoom level to higher number (like 15 or 16), and lower "percentage zoom", so I can see big area with extreme detail. But when I zoom out to less than 50 percent, borders of screen are not covered with map.

Improvements on this idea (some of these are maybe overkill, but some would be nice):

  • rectangular "render areas" (taking screen rotation into account) - because phones don't have square screens
  • automatic option to fill screen + user set border (in %)
  • render tiles in direction of moving screen first

ERRORES/BUGS / Minor text bug in settings
January 21, 2017, 12:53:44 AM
Hi,

In text to speech setting menu there is time zone change item. There are zones Z1-Z4, but instead of zone Z5, there is Z1. (I'm only guessing it's a bug. I don't personally use this feature, I just noticed it when browsing settings.)

I'm using Slovak language but this option is in English, so it is probably bug in default English text.
