Title: New beta version, 7.5.9betaX
Post by: orux on July 05, 2019, 08:30:52 PM
Hello!

We are working on a new version.
https://oruxmaps.org/forum/index.php?topic=34734.0 (https://oruxmaps.org/forum/index.php?topic=34734.0)

:beta42
-->mapsforge update to 0.13

:beta42
-->changes in BT bike power sensor

:beta41
-->draw overlay tool, added new features, now you can draw more types of shapes.
-->we go back to the previous algorithm of calculation of accumulated ascent/descent.

:beta39
-->added a new feature in the 'draw layer' tool: draw a circle with xx distance units radius. Useful for creating geofence alerts, for example, under COVID-19 movement limitations.
-->bugs corrections

:beta38
-->changes in device orientation algorithm. It should be more stable
-->bugs correction

:beta33
--rollback some algorithms (track statistics calculations). It seems they don't work as expected.
--improved WMS and WMTS creation, with a map viewer for immediate testing.

:beta31
--new voice commands added
--some bug correction

:beta30
--support to some voice commands. You can find available voice commands in global settings--text to speech/sounds-->available voice commands. The idea is to be able to operate the app without touching the screen, for example, with gloves.
how does it work? you can trigger voice recognition with:
a) add a new button to the map viewer right/left button bars that start voice recognition.
b) using device hardware volume buttons (configure this option in global settings--text to speech/sounds-->volume buttons, voice commands). For now, it only works if you are displaying the map viewer screen. Hint: How do you open the map viewer, if you are using gloves, for example? If you use Google assistant, you can open any app if you say 'OK Google, open OruxMaps application'. The problem is that Google's assistant is going to open only an app available on Google Play (then it does not work with beta and free versions)! We must wait for the launch of the final version...
c) using google assistant 'ok google' to send commands to the app. Full integration coming soon.

All the commands are simple, the more complex one is creating a new waypoint. You can create a new waypoint if recording a Track, with name, type and description if you say (you can omit the name, type and/or description):
'new waypoint name 'the name of the waypoint' type 'the type from one of the available types' description 'the description'.

A useful command, if you are recording a Track and you want to see the statistics:
1.-open the map viewer, trigger voice recognition (display button or volume button)-->'see statistics' command.
2.-trigger voice recognition (display button or volume button)-->'go back' command.

Hint: You can disable the screen lock for the app, when you turn off the screen, in global settings -> application -> disable the screen saver. This way you can access the map viewer, when you are recording a Track, by pressing the hardware power button.

:beta29
--some bugs removed.

:beta28--new map selector view
--some bugs removed.

:beta27--online composite maps with offline layers.
:beta26
--bug correction with distance measurement.

:beta24
--added support to steps counter (using internal device sensor). You can enable it under global settings--sensors. New dashboard control with this information. A new entry in track statistics.
--support to Tempo Disc 4in1 barometer-termometer-humidity sensor.
--bug with strava solved.

:beta21
-bug correction

:beta20
-bug correction

:beta19
-bug correction

:beta18
--added icons indicating max/min altitude and speed (per segment). You can enable disable those indicators in global settings--Tracks.

:beta16
-bug correction

:beta15
-bug correction

:beta14:
New functionality:
-Added two new controls to the dashboard (altitude above remaining, altitude below remaining)
--includes a new LITE version; with the following idea:
-> meets 90% of the functionality.
-> Useful for 90% of users, especially those who use the app for the first time.
-> the same functionality, accessible only from one place:

The changes only affect the main window (the map navigator). You can swap from one version to the full version in the global settings' main display.

what do you think?

:beta12:
->bugs correction
->Smoother movement of the GPS cursor.

:beta11:
->mapsforge 0.12 libraries update
->minor changes,

:beta10:
->bug corrections.
->changes in some calculation algorithms (motion detection, height gained/lost)

:beta9:
->bug corrections.
->In some devices, it seems that the app can not detect when the navigation bar is hidden in immersive mode. Added a new setting to force that layout in global settings--user interface--miscelaneous.

:beta8: There are a lot of changes, old libraries removed, new added; please, test with care!
->New map display layout, with default semitransparent bars and buttons. The main thing is the map.
->Added a new right panel, with the main information (speed, altitude, distances,... and two graphics (current track, route followed). Swipe the finger from the right side of the display.
->New graphics library; I expect better. You can tap and see the value.

->New Tracks display layout, with more information, including a Track thumbnail. Those thumbnails are only calculated for new Tracks, or when the Track is loaded (for follow, see statistics,...) because it is a hard task; if you want to force the calculation of the thumbnails, there is an option in the Track list, 'more options' button.

:beta6:
->support two separate BT 4.0 sensors (Bike Cadence and Speed).
->Android wear module, now you can get the heart rate from your watch. Configure that feature in global settings--sensors--heart rate.

:beta5:
some improvements in the coordinates conversion tool.

:beta3:
->improved support to KML format. Added support to icon rotation attribute
->bug corrections.

New:
-> Activated SOS function with sending email messages. Due to the restrictions of Google Play to publish apps that send SMS messages, I decided to activate this feature.
CREATE A SPECIFIC GMAIL ACCOUNT ONLY FOR THAT PURPOSE, DO NOT USE YOUR USUAL ACCOUNTS!

-> New configuration screens. With search function; there are already too many and it is difficult to find some at times.
-> GPS Week rollover problem fix in devices that suffer that problem. Settings - sensors - GPS
-> Added new buttons to some screens.
-> New experimental map render engine.
-> Weather forecast at map center position. 5 days / 3 hours. Map viewer, more button.
-> Import Waypoints in .csv format
The fields that are recognized are:
"name"
"description"
"position"-->latitude,longitude
"latitude"
"longitude"
"icon"-->url to a png
"iconcolor"-->hexadecimal format
"altitude"
"time" & "date"-->different timestamps

Hola Orux,

thanks for the new beata. It works but while track recording the track on the maps shows really strange, see attached Image. I tested with 2 Smartphones, both show the (may I call it) "bug". When you zoom in or out using the zoom tabs in the App, than the track looks like in all the other versions. I never had this behaviour before. I tested today also with 7.4.22 and everything was OK. I hope I could explain the bug but I think the picture says all.

Gracias.

Hola Orux,

I think that what Mapper-Alps12 is trying to explain is that, while recording a track, very often the track position moves far away from the actual one and then, in the next point, it comes back to the correct position. I am experiencing the same issue, zooming in/out makes the track display properly again.

Also, I confirm the two other bugs reported by Josean and JCS666 about the error with binary xml first time the app opens and SMTP error when trying to send SOS mail.

The forum is not accepting pictures, you should upload it to a site such as imgur and post the link here.

Thanks for the new Beta Version.

Again in that beta version rdks doesnt work.

Since I seem to be the only user, dont worry about it.

With the paid version RDKS works fine still.

Para España hay una alternativa muy buena que publicó el usuario "Tio Matt" en un post específico, si bien contiene un error advertido por "juanjo" en el Link, que hay que cambiar: donde pone {$coor} debería poner ${coord}

Un afectuoso saludo.

Tu aplicación es una pasada. :geek:

I have read that, in the latest beta versions, upload to strava was working, but in my case it does not work...

I am using this 7.5.9beta version on an old phone (android 4.1).

When i try to upload one track to strava, it opens an web page that can not be reached...

Is there any option on oruxmaps to store my strava credentials (email, password)?

Thank you again.

Hi Orux,

When I export a recorded track to kml file, it always contains two tracks. One is a track, and the other is a path. However, these two tracks are the same. I don't know how to export a kml file with only one track.

Thanks.

Both are included for compatibility with old SW.

You can exclude one in global settings--tracks/routes--KML/KMZ settings-->include linestring and/or tracks.

Hi Orux,

I like the weather forecast very much but the presentation could be clearer. Maybe you could use different backgrounds for each day (a brighter and a darker grey would be enough) or you could use about four or five different shades of grey for day and night hours (https://imgur.com/a/IcQoeiX).

Thank you very much for the great app.

Hi,

a question to those of you, having an Android Wear OS watch and using OruxMaps 7.5.9beta6:

i read for beta6:

->Android wear module, now you can get the heart rate from your watch. Configure that feature in global settings--sensors--heart rate.

My Ticwatch Pro is paired in "Settings--Sensors--Heart Monitor; as Bluetooth 2.0 device (BT 4.0 above is not finding my watch) and "Bpm from Wear device" is activated.

How do you actually get the heart rate from the wrist watch?

If i start tracking in OruxMaps, OM tells me "Bluetooth connection lost,.. try again in 30 seconds...".

Do you start something on your watch, before you start tracking in OruxMaps?

regards

Matt

wow, 7.5.9beta8: quick comment from me:

It looks like hillshading is more smooth. I use OpenAndroMaps + DEM files. In earlier versions, i saw these horizontal+vertical lines appearing at ZL14 or 15, at tile borders or so. That's better now, or my eyes got worse...

Very nice are these "track thumbnails", good idea!

More testing outside.

Hola orux,

It does not work in this way. You are connecting the watch as if it were a heart rate sensor.

You have to connect your watch as a wear watch device. Then OruxMaps can use the wear API to get the heart rate from the OruxMaps wear app.

Hi Orux,

with the new full screen map, the android status bar with white text is very hard to read. It would be nice to have at least the option to have a transparent grey background as the system buttons at the bottom have.

Are you planing to add just released mapsforge 0.12.0, too? It finally adds curved path text rendering, which solves one of the last big issues for mapsforge maps (bad streetname availability):

Hola orux,

Another thing: seems like profiles can5be really shared between GP and Beta - if I load an changed one from the first in the latter again, the changes aren't applied.

Also I get a warning in the newest beta that it will expire soon which is annoying and really early.

Another thing: seems like profiles can5be really shared between GP and Beta - if I load an changed one from the first in the latter again, the changes aren't applied.

Also I get a warning in the newest beta that it will expire soon which is annoying and really early.

Hello!

new beta available.

Preferences are stored in the own storage of each version. They are only saved in internal storage, visible to the other version after changes. But they don't sync continuously. I have to improve it later, It wasn't thought for that ...

Hola,

otro fallo.

If following a track.

Is it possible to show the expected elevation to go to the end of a track? Altimeter up and down?

Thanks.

Good idea; added in the current .14 beta version. There may be problems, the calculation is complex; It is not directly the sum of the altitude difference between all the points of the Track since the GPS positioning usually introduces a lot of noise in the height measurement.

Hello.

BTW

I have also problems with the upper, left and right dashboard.

Hola Orux,

today I was hiking and had the same Problems in beta16 with the left and right dashbord as Thomas described in post #116. Sometimes the panels not to see, sometimes they're there again. When they're gone, I closed the app and opened it again, than they were to see.

Now I have test it with "immersive mode" off.

It looks good.

I have "No Action Bar" set off, because of more map view. :)

Thanks.

hi orux,

    A new function needed.

In orux, waypoint alway belong some route(or track). but when I plan a trekking, I need make some waypoint . these waypoint is NOT BELONG any route. I called them POI.

After I made these POI, I want a way to controll these POI display or undisplay.

At present, orux is not do them. when I clear all, It is difficult to display them again, because they don't belong any route.

would you pls add a default way team, we can call it POITEAM. when my gps is off and make a waypoint, this waypoint can save to POITEAM(give a choice). POITEAM can consist of some items, for exmaple: POITEAM( china_poi, tw_poi and others).

the users can control which POITEAM items can be displayed or undisplayed.

how about your think?

as I wrote, with "immersive mode" off, it looks good.

"immersive mode" on, there is sometimes nothing to see, also not the grey blocks.

Hmmm,

Could you explain the three captures?

-the first one, immersive mode, GPS on

-the second one, the same, but with immersive mode off

-the third one?

When do the controls disappear? When you turn on/off the display, or you go to Android home and return to the app?

If the controls are not shown, if you turn on/off the GPS, they don't appear?

It's very hard to reproduce.

There is no difference in immersive mode on, whether GPS on or off.

In immersive mode off, all is ok.

It seams the screen rebuild has something to do with this.

If display off then on, the screen will rebuild an all is ok, mostly.

If go to Android home and return to the app it is not ok and sometime worse as before.

Gps on/off has no effect on the screen.

i think in beta 16(?) some buttons are removed from the slidein menus. correct?

in beta 19 (and if i remember correctly also in beta 16 and 18) the length of a route in the route statistics is 0,00 m - no matter if the route is created by hand or with Brouter.

Hello Orux,

there is a problem with the elevation of waypoints in manually drawn routes in beta 21 (and earlier versions): The highest or lowest point isn't always shown correctly neither in the map nor its elevation in statistics. I've tried different routes (only ascending, only descending, ascending & descending) but i can't find a system behind the wrong values and marked points.

Hello Orux,

I have an issue with the starting date of my records. The finish time is ok so the total duration is big.
Also the distance appear to be big (363km) but when exporting to Strava it is fine (12km).

My smartphone is a Samsung S4 mini on Lineage 16 (second wave of GPS week rollover on November 6th).

Many thanks for your awesome work, before Oruxmaps was already the best to me but now with the GPS week rollover it is the only one that could be working.

I don't have any track recorded with that problem, please, export the track as a GPX and send it to me,
Probably there is an issue with the option to replace the GPS timestamp with the phone time,

Hi,
i had a quick look at the new "steps counter, using internal device sensor" from 7.5.9beta24.
I enabled it in settings and added the new dashboard control.

1. the step counter in the dasboard is counting, even when i am not tracking
2. The counter in the dashboard is increasing, i see no way to let it start from "0" again.
3. Then i disabled it again, but left it in dashboard: and it is still counting/increasing, when walking.
I see no way to reset the value.

Maybe the behaviour should be like this:
Take and show values from the internal sensor only in tracking mode
For every new track, start counting from "0"

On-top, it would be nice e.g. to derive from that counter a "cadence" value, as it exists for ANT+ or BT sensors, and have also a dashboard control for that. Interesting for some runners&cyclists.

Hi,

same here. One more point, if the step counter is removed from the dashboard and then putted back, it retains it's value.

Hello!
When you start recording a Track, the counter should be reset to zero, and the final valued saved with the Track statistics.

If you are not recording a Track, the counter retains the Android internal value.
The pedometer is independent of GPS.
You will be able to reset to zero with a long press on the control, if a track is not being recorded, in next version.

This way you can count steps, without having to have the app running, because it uses the Android internal step counter.

Hi orux,

Android documentation states the following about the internal step counter: "The step counter sensor provides the number of steps taken by the user since the last reboot"
That makes me think that this sensor is always active. If this is the case, I do not see the point of having an option to activate it in oruxmaps (Global settings - Sensors), you can just get rid of it and behave as follow:

- when recording a track, even if step counter is not present on the dashboard, use it. Value should be read at the beginning and end of the track and each time it's paused/restarted.

- when recording a track, if step counter is present on the dashboard, use it. In addition to the above, read the value every x seconds to refresh the dashboard control.

- when not recording, if step counter is present on the dashboard, use it. Read the value every x seconds, the user can reset it at any time by long pressing the control as you suggested. It may also be useful to store the timestamp of the last reset.

This way you can count steps, without having to have the app running, because it uses the Android internal step counter.

orux

Regards

Hello!

The sensor is not always active. Android can disable it if there are not apps interested in it.

That is why I prefer that the user decides if he wants to have it active. In very long activities it could have some impact on the battery. I do not know.

It will work more or less (when I can adjust some things) as you comment, except as stated in the previous paragraph.

Title: BUG found in: New beta version, 7.5.9beta24
Post by: Andrea65 on December 11, 2019, 05:50:41 PM
Hello,
I tested this morning the beta24 having a small walk and I found that the totals recorded along the logged track are wrong!

I had a trip of 6km approximately, but in the logged track these were recorded as 65km and I would have walked at 60+ kmh (:->)!
Also recorded speed, and other measures look wrong (included total ascent). I walked all flat at 25 metres above sea level, while the log reported 130m of total ascent (impossible).

I would like to provide you the screeshot I made, but this posting system do not allow me to attach it because too big (but it is only 1.1 MB).

Kindly let me know if you want to have the GXP file or the logged file.

Regards,
Andrea

Hello Dev Team,
I tested yesterday and today the last beta 26.

Yesterday I made well known ski-touring I already recorded 3 times with the ver 7.4.22.
The new 7.5.9 beta 26 worked fine, no more elevation drop when GPS signal is lost. Also the descending speed is now more accurate than in the past (I used also a Garmin Edge 810 as comparator and reference device: on this course Garmin collected 5300 points, beta 26 collected 512 points, 7.4.22 collected 528 points last year).

However, I have also to notify you of a big problem with my smartphone: the battery usage is doubled or even more than doubled compared to ver 7.4.22.

Now, I cannot confirm that this is strictly related to this beta 26, because I am comparing the battery usage of my mobile last year to today. The phone is the same, Huawei P10, but the OS changed from Android 8 to 9 and the battery has today 30 months of live, while last year it was 12 months newer.

Please, kindly check if any of the new introduced changes may affect so much the power consumption.

Many thanks for the great product.
Kind regards, Andrea

¡Hola!

Saludos

Hi,

I tested 7.5.9beta27.

Bad:

Oruxmaps crashes when I select a waypoint as navigation target or load a route containing waypoints and select "WP navi".
Did anybody observe a similar behaviour?

Good:

having composite maps with different maximal zoom levels seems to work better compared to 7.4.22 or the version installed from google.
The latter two ones sometimes do not display the composite map if one of the composite components does not contain the selected zoom level.

In the latest beta 28, distances to waypoints (and the corresponding times to reach the waypoint) are calculated miserably wrong.

Left: the correct distance and time as from oruxmaps gp 7.5.8, where I was in plane over the baltic sea about 406 nautical miles and 51 min away from the airport Frankfurt which was the next waypoint. Distance and time beeing correct.

Right: as displayed in the latest beta 28 for the same location in the plane and same waypoint Frankfurt airport beeing selected, where a ridiculous distance (3356 nautical miles) and time are displayed:

Beta 26 works very nice and looks great on my Galaxy S10. Unfortunately it absolutely kills my battery so instead of getting 4 hours (with 7.4.22) I only get just over 1 hour.

Hello Orux,
I tested this morning the new beta 29 and:
- Power consumption looks now to be back to low level as for version 7.4
- Probably there is a small bug in the "trace management" page. Please refer to the attached screenshot where below the recorded course tumb there is "-> 0.00". I suppose you would show there the course length.

And last point, I tried to use the Strava option for my first time and, sorry, I could not understand how to use it.
I was able to associate my Strava account and to land on page displaying my Strava activities, but could not do more than that.

All the best,
Andrea

Hello!

"-> 0.00" is not the course length, it is the distance to the first point of that Track from your current position at the map (map center cursor).

With Strava integration you can:
--see your activities in Strava.
--upload your Tracks to Strava.
--download your routes from Strava (you can plan/draw routes in Strava and then download them).

referred to beta_29 (but also to beta_28) it seems that some values in the track statistics are incorrect: rise time and fall time (about half of the real) and consequently also rise speed and descent speed (about double the real). The beta_26, 7.4.22 and 7.5.8GP versions seem ok

Hello Orux,
thanks for the prompt follow-up.

Regarding the Strava features you listed, I am really sorry, I could not find any command for upload and download.
I can only list all the activities already on Strava and I can also select one and show it in a kind of "overlay-like" view, but I cannot download it in the phone memory / OruxMaps dBase.
And, as stated, I couldn't find any command for the upload to Strava of a recorded course.

Have you any documentation about how to use these features?

My phone is a new Huawei nova 5T running Android 9.1.0 (last version patched available from Huawei).
It may also be a compatibility issue.

Thanks again and all the best,

You can upload a Track to Strava:1.-From your Tracks list (the Tracks recorded with OruxMaps), click one of them-->Properties. There is a button to upload it to different servers, including Strava.2.-Automatically, when finish recording a Track. Configure it in Global settings-->Integration.
You can not download 'activities' from Strava, because they don't allow download activities.
You can download 'routes' from Strava. In the 'Strava activities' display, there is a button in the top button bar to go to your routes in Strava.

Thanks.
The Strava API is public. https://developers.strava.com/docs/reference/ (https://developers.strava.com/docs/reference/)
You can get a lot of information about each activity, but the original GPX, with the track points and timestamps, I think not.

But if you know someone who knows how to do it, glad to contact him. Which is the app that allow that?

Hello Jose,

I am using Strava since long and I can confirm to you that anyone can dowload the GPX of its own activities from the web interface:
- Activity Feeds -> Own activities -> select activity -> Export to GPX

Unfortunately, I am not a developer, so I never used the Strava API.

Regarding the Android application I mentioned, it is "Strava to GPX".
The developer is Jesus Picornell (spark71.com), Figueres, Catalunya.

Thanks, Andrea;

Yes, you can download your activities using the web interface, but not using a public API (an app calling their servers).

Strava to GPX basically opens a web browser, then you navigate inside the Strava web, till you download the GPX.

You can do the same using Chrome, (more or less):
1.-open the web browser, go to strava.com and log in.
2.-browse your activities, if you want to open one of then, select it and click 'export to GPX'
3.-after the file is downloaded, click the message in the Android status bar that alerts you the file is downloaded. OruxMaps will offer itself to open the GPX, because it is a text file.

The key is that you can not do bulk downloads, all your activities, for example. You have to browse one by one, then download it.

You can also use Strava to GPX to download all your activities to the device, then import all the GPX to OruxMaps massively. But if you have hundreds of activities...

I'm afraid that Strava doesn't want to share that valious information massively.

Hello Orux,

in Beta30 I noticed that uploading an activity to Strava, the "activity type" is LOST.

I explain better step by step:
0) My Strava account has Cycling as default activity.
1) I set OruxMaps default activity to "Ski" (just because I was expected to test it skiing...)
2) I had short walk activity recorded
3) When selecting its "Properties" before uploading to Strava I had care to set the activity to "Slow walk < 5kmh".
4) Then I proceed with the upload to Strava
5) Checking the activity on Strava I found that it is marked as "Cycling Type" (so my Strava default type).

I think this is a bug or some other limitation of the Strava API.

Hello!
There is no match between the Track types of OruxMaps, Strava, and other online sites. Each one uses its own categories.

When you select upload to Strava, there is a drop-down where are the possible types in Strava. Do you select a type there before pressing upload?

What has not worked for a long time is the possibility of selecting public/private. That must be done on Strava's own website. I have to remove it from the upload screen. And add new types of Tracks, I see that Strava has added others.

Hola orux,

Hi Orux,

didn't get the "hillshading" feature to work in OruxMaps7.5.9beta31.apk.

As far as I can remember it worked in an earlier beta from end of last year. It works fine in the stable release. Maybe I'm just too stupid to get the settings right?

I used the mapsforge map "Alps" from Openandromaps. Under Settings->Maps->Mapsforge-Settings I activated "hillshading". The path to the DEM data is set correctly. Mapsforge-Theme "Elements" from Openandromaps is activated.

Just as an Idea:
-the new layout of the "track management" is great. However for "older tracks" (recorded by a previos app version) the nice "map icon symbol" (little map with track on it) is not generated automatically. To generate it manually, I have to go for each track to "properties", press the "statistics" icon and save the property changes afterwards. Would be nice if this conversion could be done automatically, maybe once on installation and when tracks are imported/changed.

By the way:
- 192kB max. attachement size is hard to meet.
- something doesn't work with the mobile version of this formum. As soon as I choose one of the topics "Genera", "Betas"... on my smartphone I get an "NOT Acceptable!" screen. Switching to "desctope mode" works.

Best regards, Tilo

When you select upload to Strava, there is a drop-down where are the possible types in Strava. Do you select a type there before pressing upload?

Hello Orux,
I tested it today using Beta31: it works.
Thanks for your support and for the overall clarification about.

Hi Tilo,

you have to use the 'Apply hill shadows' option found in 'Maps settings', the Mapsforge hillshading does not work with openandromaps maps.

There is already an option for doing this, on the track manager screen, touch the 3 dots at bottom right an then select 'Reload tracks thumbnails'.

Thanks, Juanjo.

You're great - that solved my problems. Found the "reload track thumbnails", too. :)

Following your hint I learned that for hillshading I had to
-activate  Settings->Maps->apply hill shadows
-deactivate Settings->Maps->Mapsforge-Settings ->apply hill shadows

I had activated both, which was the reason why I saw no shading.... Very confusing since there's also an additional submenu "maps on DEM basis" which has shading options, too.

Hi.

I've been using Oruxmaps for a long time (I am translator for Croatian language).
Never had any problems till now.
Application started to showing wrong data about distance, gaining and losing altitude etc. from last few betas.
When I upload these Tracks to Strava everything is showing correctly.(see images)
Any idea what's wrong?!

Hello!

There was a problem about some measurement in a previous beta version, but the last beta version should record those values right.
Did you recorded those Tracks with the last beta version?
You can correct that problem if you export/import again the Track as GPX.

Yes, latest OruxMaps7.5.9beta31.apk.

And it is true, if I loaded again this Track as Route suddenly distance and other numbers are OK.
But only if I read statistic as Route. If I read statistic as Track, numbers are wrong.

I hope that I was clear enough.

Hello Orux,

I recorded 3 small walks using the Beta31 and all 3 I uploaded each one to Strava the same day I made it (the upload went well).

Then I noticed that only the last one has the Strava logo/mark on its top-right (see attached screenshot).
Why the other 2 do not have it?

It may be it is a small aesthetic bug?

Hi,

there's a small problem with the drawer window from the right if used in combination with android 10 gesture settings.
With these android settings, there's no back button any more but rather swiping from the right (or left) border to the center acts as "back".
See for example https://www.android.com/android-10/ (https://www.android.com/android-10/).

The problem is

  • with a first swipe from the right margin to the center, the information panel (as added in beta8) from the right is opened (instead of the gesture acting as "back")
  • with a second swipe from the right margin to the center the gesture now acts as "back" which closes the information panel again

there's no way to close oruxmaps with "double back", as the first "back swipe" opens the information panel always.

I'd suggest to be compatible with android 10:

  • either add an option to turn of the information panel (which in fact is maybe not too useful for everybody anyway).
  • or add an exit "button" in the top or left menu (or even an exit button to be configurable for the left or right column buttons)

here's a short movie which shows what happens if I used the back gesture (swiping from the right margin to the center) repeatedly.
The information panel opens and closes repeatedly but oruxmaps doesn't exit.

You can open the right panel in two ways:
--there is a new menu option under the 'more' button (action bar, right button).--you can add a new button in the lateral button bars.

I my Android 10 device (one plus) the left/right panels do not open with swiping from the right/left margin to the center. Both gestures are recognized as back button if I have enabled navigation with gestures. Strange.

You can check if all the tracks were uploaded correctly if you go to your activities in Strava (in OruxMaps app). There is a synchronize button that compares your activities in OruxMaps and in Strava

Hello!
mapsforge maps has its own hillshading engine. You can select it in Settings->Maps->Mapsforge-Settings ->apply hill shadows. Unfortunately it does not work fine with the last mapsforge libraries.
Settings->Maps->apply hill shadows applies hillshading to all maps using OruxMaps engine.
there are no more hillshading option. In maps on DEM basis you can activate a new map that shows hillshadings.

thanks.
In fact the problem occurs when "full screen" and "force full screen" are enabled.
If fullscreen is enabled, the android 10 back swipe doesn't act as "back" but rather opens the information panel.
If fullscreen is _not_ enabled, the android 10 back swipe acts as back like expected.

referred to beta_29 (but also to beta_28) it seems that some values in the track statistics are incorrect: rise time and fall time (about half of the real) and consequently also rise speed and descent speed (about double the real). The beta_26, 7.4.22 and 7.5.8GP versions seem ok
Hi Orux,
in beta_31 the problem of incorrect statistics remains
ascent and descent time, ascent and descent speed are very far from what is calculated manually directly from the graphics and from the data visible in the "lap distances sections" for example the ascent time is displayed 0h59' while only the path to reach the maximum altitude is about 2h34' and the ascent speed is displayed in 694 m/h instead of the approximately 290 m/h calculated

the statistics with beta_33 are much more truthful. Even if, in IMHO, ascent and descent time and speed of the GP version are, in my case (mountain hiking), more adherent to reality.

Saludos

Hola Orux,

after the winter-break I'm back hiking and biking with Oruxmaps. This time I found 2 "bugs".

#1: I use the app (7.4.22, 7.5.8 GP and beta33) in German language. In beta 33, when I open the app and the maps are loading, the sentence "Karetendateien werden initialisiert" ist shown. Correctly it must be "Kartendateien...", so one e to much ;)

#2: I tried to add a new WMS Service from the German Federaly Mapping Agency to my WMS datas via the "wms_services.xml", but that fails. I put the data like this:

"<wms>

        <uid>2050</uid>
        <desc>BKG - TopPlusOpen</desc>

https://sgx.geodatenzentrum.de/wms_topplus_open?

        <minzoomlevel>0</minzoomlevel>
        <maxzoomlevel>20</maxzoomlevel>
        <version>1.1.1</version>
        <layers>web</layers>
        <coordinatesystem>EPSG:4326</coordinatesystem>
        <format>image/png</format>
        <cache>1</cache>
        <tilesize>512</tilesize>
   </wms>"

When I enter the wms-path in the WMS-Creator in the App (beta33), it works. Means, the WMS is shown and added as wished.

Can you please check what is wrong with the XML-data? For me it ist more easy to put all my WMS in an XML. Thanks in advance!

That wms requires an empty 'styles' tag.
It should work with last beta (refresh WMS list).
Or add this tag to the map:
<wms>

Hi, in latest beta pitch/roll "compass" doesn't work. It's brown circle inside of compass trying to reset pitch/roll doesn't help. Short tap shows menu "set new values". I need this beta because I have separate cadence and speed sensors. One more thing automatic map scroll isn't smooth (phone-xperia xa)

Quite a bit of a beta backwards automatic scroll is not smooth. Android Oreo.
Version 7.4.22 was much better in this regard.

Hello Everyone,

I am using 7.5.9beta38, and I noticed that if I load a Track/Route (Load KML/GPX file), this cannot be removed from the Track/Route tools menu in the Navigation Drawer, it looks this can only be done via the Action Bar above (Clean Routes/Waypoints).

Therefore, if I am not using Action Bar but just the left side Navigation Drawer, it looks like removing a track/route cannot be done.

Hola Orux,

thank you for the solution in #225, it works with beta38.

One more question to wms-services (in both wms creator in oruxmaps app and wms_services.xml): is it possible to enable wms-t (time) services like this: https://geo4.service24.rlp.de/client/lf/lawa/, where you can have a look at old topographic maps by selecting the year. The wms-source for 1990 e.g. is "https://geo4.service24.rlp.de/wms/hktk25.fcgi?service=WMS&request=GetMap&layers=rp_hktk25&styles=&format=image%2Fpng&transparent=false&version=1.1.1&time=1990&height=512&width=512&srs=EPSG%3A3857&bbox=" Therefore I guess it needs to add the "time" filed. It would be great if you could manage this, because more and more wms-t services can be found.

While using the last betas I recognized that since beta 35 or so (I'm not sure) the automatic track thubnail function doesn't work any more. In beta33 it worked, in the later betas you just can see a blue track on a black background (maybe osm restrictions). I would also be haapy if you could fix this.

Thank you so much!

Hello!
I can see this: Response{protocol=http/1.1, code=429, message=Too Many Requests, }
I have to check OSM limits.
About WMS-t; I will investigate. But you always can add the parameter &time=XXXX to the URL.

Hello Orux/Jose,

I tested yesterday the last Beta 39 and I found a quite big problem in the total ascent calculation.
As usual, I also used my Garmin Edge 1000 (current FW 15.30) as reference and my local GIS cartography dbase.

I rode (MTB) for approximately 40 km on flat land around my house and the Beta 39 reported a clearly wrong 410 m (four hundred) of total ascent! Simply impossible!

Checking the GIS dbase, max terrain elevation is 25 m and min elevation is 18 m. In addition I passed 2 bridges over the highway.
Manual calculation of total ascent (using the official GIS dbase elevation data and knowing the bridges elevation) gives approximately 40 m of total ascent.

My Garmin Edge 1000 reported 55 m of total ascent: checking the elevation graph it looks it is bit over estimated, so the manual calculated 40 m should be the most accurate.

So, in conclusion, the new Beta 39 looks to have big problem of elevation acquisition and of total ascent calculation.

Kindly let me know if you want to have the Beta 39 recorded file and/or the Garmin files. I will be pleased to provide you (by email).

Kind regards, Andrea

Hello!

Your Garmin uses an altimeter-barometer for altitude calculation.
Do your phone has barometer sensor?
With the GPS without a barometer, on mainly flat terrain it is not easy to clean the errors that the GPS provides unless you have a barometer. The only solution is to do a strong filter afterward, correcting the altitude in the Track file.

Send me the GPX, and I watch it.

Hello Orux,

from one of our old discussion about elevation errors, I have (wrongly) understood that you were querying the Google Maps elevation model (DEM) to get a more precise elevation.
That's why I reported you the problem.

Understood now that the Beta 39 doesn't do that elevation correction. So, probably this problem is all related to the GPS on its own. However, I do not remember to have had such a kind of big errors using the 7.4.22. I will soon ride the same course recording it with the 7.4.22 and I will let you know.

I will send to you the GPX file by email today.

Kind regards, Andrea

Buttons for Save and Delete trace/course are too next!

Hello Orux,
within the Tracks Manager page I did a mistake and I involuntary deleted my last ride instead of saving it in an exportable format!

So, I discovered 3 problems at once!

1st problem: Save and Delete buttons shall not be one next to the other. Yes, there are then following warning screens... but the Italian translation really is not good enough for the purpose (I do not want to blame anyone, but, honestly, it is not so clear in explaining what's going on. I do not use Save so frequently to promptly realize I was deleting the file. I misunderstood all for just warnings about the fact that the saved file would not have been including waypoints and the like).

2nd problem: There is no Undelete option... (:-<)

3rd problem: That last ride was rode on 27th April and on the device there was a backup (oruxmapstracks.db) dated 27-04-2020, but it was not including that last ride (:-<)

and, finally, ... why there was not any further backup? Today is the 30 April 2020...
Or, at least, I would have expected a backup do be performed before any tracks deletion...

All the best
Kind regards,
Andrea

Send me the GPX, and I watch it.

orux

Hello Orux,

from one of our old discussion about elevation errors, I have (wrongly) understood that you were querying the Google Maps elevation model (DEM) to get a more precise elevation.

No, you have to check in global settings that you want the app to use the DEM files. By default the app uses the GPS information. This is the behaviour from the bvery begining of the app.

You can see the values in 7.4.22 if in import the GPX in that app version. It gives you the same values aprox.

The backup is to avoid system problems / crashes, not user actions. It is a weekly backup, not 'all moment' backup, it's not realistic to do that kind of backup.
You can easy get another kinds of backup:--set automatic GPX/KML creation after track recording finish, in this way you have your track in file system in gpx/kml,... formats
--sync your files on the cloud, with Drive/Dropbox,... sync apps.--upload automatically your tracks to the server after finish (Strava, Orux)....

About DEM files

Hello Orux,
I have a Garmin compatible DEM file (dem.img) of entire Europe (approximately 1GB in size).
It is quite old (2014) but good enough for my general purpose.
I copied it into the DEM directory but I could not find any way to specify its usage.
How can I set its usage or at least how can I verify it is compatible/detected by the application?

Thanks and regards, Andrea

Hola Orux.
Me explico mejor:

Hello,

i have used several versions of the beta with openandromaps.com. Now I am on lineage os 17.1 and if I try to download the maps from openandromaps, Orux tells me that, I don't have a Wifi connection. But every other apps works with wifi.
Is there a problem with Lineage oder some setting I can change?
Thanks in advance.

Hello Andrea,
i can't say anything about your Garmin DEM file, but regarding the usage see:
https://www.oruxmaps.com/cs/en/blog
e.g. I utilize items 2, 3 and 6 mentioned in the list.
Instead of your old DEM file, you may want to look into the files from Sonny: https://oruxmaps.org/forum/index.php?topic=3894.0
However, all this is not related to the new beta version of OM ;-)

Hi. I think OruxMaps uses DEM files in .hgt and DEM + Hdr format. You can download compatible DEM files from:
http://viewfinderpanoramas.org/dem3.html
https://lpdaac.usgs.gov/products/nasadem_hgtv001/#tools
https://e4ftl01.cr.usgs.gov/MEASURES/NASADEM_HGT.001/ (1 "Global DEM)
By browsing the web you can find other sources, in addition to the one that OruxMaps offers directly.
A trick to save space: 1 "DEM for your city, 3" for the rest of your country and 15 "for the continent.

Hi. You can treat indirect download. Copy to your download folder and from there to the Orux mapfiles.

Hello Orux, Matt and afgb1977, for the support provided.
I downloaded the 1" DEM of Italy, extracted all the HGT and copied into the DEM folder of OruxMaps.

However, I still do not understand how to verify the DEM coverage and its correct setup.
I mean, from the main view of a displayed map I know the option for checking which map is active, but I don't know how to check "which" (if existing) DEM is the active.

Thanks again and kind regards,
Andrea

PS for Orux: I see now you released beta 41 declaring to go back to previous total ascent calculation algorithm...
I plan to test it this afternoon. I will let you know. Regards

Hi. There are several ways to verify coverage.
- In Configuration - Visual Elements - Dashboard - Control Panel Elements, you can enable the DEM Height icon (the mountain with a D next to it), as you scroll the map and this item displays a height, you have coverage.
- Enable DEM-based Maps.

I tested today your last Beta 41 and I found it a lot better than the Beta 39.

I sent you GPX files and screenshots by email along with plenty of details about my test.

You really did a great job in improving the altimeter management and total ascent calculation.
Thanks a lot and kind regards,
Andrea

Since Beta 38 or 39 I do not get proper "track thumbnails" in track-list. Sometimes none only half or with black background ( no map). "Reload TRack Thumbnails" dont help.

Not sure if I changed something else like new maps etc.

Anybody with the same problem ?

There was a problem with some beta version with the maps used for the thumbnail (OpenStreetMaps). Now they have some tile download limits (I think per IP).
But the last beta version should work, it uses an alternative if OSM is not returning tiles.

Hola Orux,

I tested the last Beta 43 against the "issue" of the wrong total ascent calculation.
As you suggested I downloaded also the DEM files and I set the GPS to used the DEM + Interpolation to calculate the elevation in the most accurate way possible.

For me it works fine now and, even if it cannot yet achieve the accuracy of a barometric altimeter, it is fully usable and accurate enough for the general purpose.

Many thanks for your great job.

Hello.

I noticed two issues with the OrusMaps beta:

1. After a fresh install, the GPS settings default to very low precision values. Experienced users know how to fix that, but new users may think the app is just as bad as Strava when we know it can do quite well when set up properly. Maybe these settings should default to at least average precision instead.

2. Again after a fresh install, when I link OruxMaps with Strava, it uploads the first ride correctly, but any subsequent rides (even only a day later) generate a track upload error. I can still send the GPX to myself, and upload it manually on the Strava website, so the generated data appears to be correct. Is there a Strava syncing issue, or am I missing something?

I have got a similar problem concerning thumbnails as mentioned in #264 with beta 43 on a Xiaomi Redmi 4X (MIUI Global 11.0.2). Sometimes thumbnails are not created at all but most often they have a black background.
"Reload track thumbnails" in "Manage tracks/routes" doesn't change anything - neither does it create black or correct thumbnails nor does it change correct thumbnails from tracks created in older versions.
"Refresh thumbnail image" in the statistics of a track creates a black thumbnail with the blue track for both new tracks AND correct thumbnails of old tracks.
On my phone the problem occurs at least since beta 38.

Many thanks for your great app & your support.

Beta 43 total ascent/descent when loading a GPX file.

Hello Orux,
I opened a GPX file received from a friend and I immediately detected that the total ascent/descent reported in the Stat Data page where too much.
The effective ride total ascent/descent is in the 1800m, while the beta 43 reported 2250m.

I know very well that ride, so I can confirm it is in the 1800m

I crosschecked with GPSee and it correctly reports something more than 1800m.

Kind regards, Andrea

Hello Orux,
regarding this topic, I did not send you any GPX file because I am not anymore sure about the problem.
I try to better explain.
During the period I evaluated the total ascent of some GPX files having barometric elevation data embedded (taken random from my library) using 3 tools: your beta43, BaseCamp 4.7.1, GPXSee 7.30.

Well, honestly speaking, I got similar statistic errors. So, at this point, I don't think your Beta43 has any effective serious bug about.

Sorry for having made noise about.
Thanks for your kind attention and best regards,
Andrea

Hola Orux.
Gracias

Hello Orux...
I have used IGN maps of France at 1:25000 in .rmap format for a very long time, and the vector map of France in .map format, so far without any problems (only off-line maps in the map directory). But with 7.5.9 beta 43, 41, 39 (and maybe also the previous ones , but I don't have any more to try), i just discovered a problem that arises when i want to drag the current tile which is displayed from an IGN map, to pass on the adjacent tile.
If the sliding is done very quickly, there is no problem, but if i slide more slowly, in the direction down or to the right, when passing to the adjacent tile, the current tile freezes becoming blurred, and i manage to slide but very difficult to the adjacent tile, also blurred and must be cropped.
And if i slide to the left, the adjacent tile does not appear but the map changes to go to vectorial (2nd map present in the map directory), while the adjacent tile exists, since it can be displayed if i slide very quickly.
So I have to use version 7.4.22 again, which does not pose any problem in the same manipulation.

Best regards.

hello, I also have a sliding problem with this version, on any map. on a lot of zoom, I put my finger on the map, and when I move it a little bit, the map moves all the time towards the northwest. while in the others directly, the map moves much more difficult. Same thing with the donate version.
thanks.

heart rate from watch:

So far it does not work with my samsung watch active.

It tries to connect and there is a vibration from the watch but

then there is a message on the oruxmaps app that the bluetooth

connection is lost.

Is it because the watch uses Tizen?

it's the same with 7.4.22. It must be bad management with galaxy s10.

Where to check or uncheck "Apply altitude filter"?
It's not there in actual beta and GP!
Why?
