3. Places (Wpts) in OruxMaps Version 6

"Wpts" consist of "waypoints" and "POIs" represented by a pin or similar.

A "Wpt" has coordinates, type, description, and may have attachments that can be images, videos, audios and texts.

A "waypoint" (wpt) literally is a point on your way (path).

A "POI" (Point of Interest) is place where you can do some activity,

You can create Wpts for later use.

Wpts are logically associated to a track, even if that track does not necessarily have to have track points (a trip).

This means that you can use the Wpts in other routes.

If you have initiated a track on your screen, the Wpts will be linked to the current track.

How to use Wpts.

To create:

1. From the map viewer, use the button 'Create Waypoint'.

If you want to create a Wpt on another point on the map (POI), 'long press' on that point over the map.

OruxMaps will propose the coordinates of the center point of the map, but you can change them.

You can create a POI from the central point of the map if you know a bearing and a distance.

You can also add additional information using the 'Search address' capabilities offered by Google.

It is possible to attach image, video, audio or text to the Wpt by click "Edit".

These are referred to as 'extensions'. These attachments can be consulted when you are viewing a Wpt.

2. Other ways to create Wpts:

- 1. "Photo Wpt": Long press the button to create Wpt. Opens the camera or gallery, which allows you to select an image.

- 2. "Auto Create Wpts": If you wish to assign a generic name to the Wpt and edit it later on, you can open it for creating the Wpt just by pressing the button 'Wpts – Create' without having to enter more data. Select this option in 'Wpt. settings'.

- 3. "Create first/last Wpt": It will create a Wpt when starting/stopping the 'Start Recording' mode. It should be noted that the segment statistics will be added to the description of the end-Wpt. If you combine this with automatic segmentation (by time or distance), the generated Wpt will automatically have the characteristics of the created track in its description. Select this option in 'Wpt. settings'.

3. Different ways of getting more out of Wpts:

Create a route from a list of Waypoints (Wpts):

Show them on the map: The Wpts will be added to the route that is currently shown on the screen without removing it.

This way, you can add the Wpts that you want to the route as well as the ones that belong to the route.

Press the button 'Wpts –Manage' to filter/order the Wpts, and then press this button: If you wish to transfer the Wpts one by one, select each of them in the Wpts list and then select 'view on map'.

Navigate to a Wpt(POI): By navigating to a Wpt you can obtain information such as distance to destination, VMG, ETA, ETE,..

Press on a Wpt(POI) in the map viewer and select the option 'Navigate to'.

Wpts Navigation: When you have loaded several Wpts in the map viewer that belong to a route, you can navigate from Wpt to Wpt using the 'Wpt Navigation' button.

The application will show information regarding distance to the next Wpt and go from one Wpt to the next when you're sufficiently close to any of them.

Could have been nice to create an Audio wpt as easily as a photo wpt. Would be useful for OSM mapping on the run.

Hi. I am new to Oruxmaps (and this forum), using version 7.2.5, and have a couple of questions about waypoints:

1. I can't find a way to "reset" the waypoint count ... would be good to be able to reset auto numbering to 0 for a new track etc?

2. Is there an easy way to edit the auto created waypoint number to make it smaller to display? At the moment there are several leading 0's which obscure map detail (eg "000039") ... why not truncate to "39"?

I also have an observation which may not be correct. Initially when used Orux to record tracks, I had all the available (default) things like dashboard, menus etc displayed. I had set the GPS to record every 1 second and minimum distance (0) but it was actually recording every 5 seconds. I noticed that this coincided with the recorded time displayed on the dashboard updating. When I removed the dashboard display, it started recording every 1 second.

Otherwise it is a wonderful app, with many uses for recording tracks and waypoints. Many thanks, Joff
