Which version of Android is your phone ?

I ask the question, because if you are under Android 7 (or older), this is a general problem in accessing https web sites with certificate provided by Let's Encrypt, that is no more possible with old android smartphone, since beginning of this month.
It remains possible to browse them with Firefox, but not with any other browser, nor any app.
(search "letsencrypt android 7" on google to get details)

I'm quite sure that in old versions of the "free" branch (those on Orux web site, not on Google Play), it used to work. In particular, I would say that it warked in 7.4.22
But since a long time, I didn't use it any more, because (as @tronpo said), this "integrated" function loaded 3" files, and it's A LOT better to use 1" files (personnally, I'm using those provided by sonny https://sonny.4lima.de/ )

And I guess that the issue is not due to a change in OM... but at contrary to a lack of change : the URL from where to download the files has probably changed... and OM (in "free" branch) hasn't been updated accordingly.... on the same way that it's no more possible to download from inside OM vector maps in Mapsforge format, because the URL on the server has changed... and not updated in the app.

Yes, I saw that a few days ago.

Thank you VERY VERY much for that ;D

I'm afraid this is not feasible directly in OM, but you can browse the database (that is a sqlite db) on a laptop, using DB Browser for SQLite (https://sqlitebrowser.org/) that should help you to find in which folder is a given track.

Hi,

I really do not understand you, and cannot understand what you consider as problematic....

I assume that your two consecutive maps have an overlay larger than the width of your smartphone.

When you start following route, you are on first map, that fulfills all your screen.
Then you move, following the route.
As soon as you are close enough of first map to begin to see its border on the screen, you only have to move the map with the finger to have the center of screen reaching the border, and a little bit more : OM switches then automatically on the second map.
And if you put again the center of screen on the current position (on only wait a few seconds for OM doing it itself), you stay on map 2 (since the current position is on both maps, map 1 and map 2), and smartphone's screen is then entirely covered by map 2.

You write "I start my track on a map without seeing in advance the land that is beyond. " : But whatever your route is completely over only one map, or over several map, you cannot see the part of map that is beyond your smartphone's screen....

So what is the problem ? I cannot see any problem....

PS You wrote also "since you can't load a card manually" : Of course you can ! Either moving the screen to go out of current map and then switch automatically to next map, or even without moving the screen selecting menu "Nouvelle carte ici" ("Switch map here") and selecting the second map...

I notice that if you hike on a defined route that covers two maps, when you arrive towards the edge of the first map, you do not see the rest of the route on the next map until the GPS position is there.

This is true for the automatic change of map, but when you arrive near the edge of the first map, you can drag the map manually, you then go to the other map, and if you have a common zone between the two, you are not just on the edge of the second map ...

That said, in terms of roads or routes following, I don't know, never using this road tracking functionality, but what you tell surprises me a lot, since a road is not linked to the map on which it is displayed. When you follow a road, you can always change the map displayed below ....

And I have just manually created a coarse road on horseback on two maps (and exceeding in each of them the recovery area), and at least at the display, no problem, I always see the entire road.

1) For the JPEG or PNG format, it all depends on the definition of your WMTS extraction as described in the onlinemapsources.xml file
2) The database generated by Oruxmaps is a sqlite base, which you can open with "DB Browser for sqlite" https://sqlitebrowser.org/
3) The "black listing" of Mobac can be very easily bypassed, specifying the adequate "User-agent" (details on the already mentioned site of Nicolas Parour)
4) "The Mapforge card of Languedoc Roussillon which is the compliant copy of the IGN at 1/25000th": Alas, oh no, I really do not agree !!!But if it is enough for you, why not!

Finally, the maps generated directly with Oruxmaps are in format ... "Oruxmaps", which of the very opinion of @orux himself, is less effective than the sqlite Mbtile format that can be generated with Mobac.
In particular, if the map bakground is "transparent" (for example the Strava trace, or other trails like those of Waymarkedtrails), this transparency is lost, and the superposition of a background map and an overlayis really a hassle ...

In fact, I therefore use the same maps as you, those of the IGN.
But unlike you, I do not extract them with Oruxmaps itself, but with Mobac, on a laptop, in Mbtiles Sqlite format (which is the format to be preferred according to @orux himself.
And in addition, unlike you, I even go to the level of zoom 16 (which alone generates 4 times more data than level 15).
And yet my maps of about 100km x 100km (or 10,000 km², not 40 ...) are only about 1 giga each (or a little bit more).

So why would yours make 2 giga for 40 km²?I only see a possible reason (likely, even!) It is if you extract the tiles in PNG format instead of JPEG.

Indeed, Oruxmaps only goes from one card to the other only when you leave a card, but if you have made sure that the different cards have a cover area (at home, they overlap on +/- 15Km), it is not embarrassing.
t I don't see what is the problem that would prevent you from creating a journey straddling several cards? It works very well.

If u want more info on Mobac, I suggest you go to see the site of Nicolas Def, in French, very well done: http://randochartreuse.free.fr/mobac2.x/index.htm

Oui, je suis français, donc tu peux me poser tes questions.

Yes, I am French, so you can ask me your questions. But this forum is a forum in English, so please ask your questions in French and English, as I do myself (you can help you google to do the translation in English ....)

I divided my geographical territory into 40km2 offline maps, which avoids overloading the memory of my smartphone.

Are you sure this makes sense ? Personnally, I'm using largers maps (in MBtiles format), and it works fine without particular memory consumption.
Typically, my maps are +/- 100Km * 100 Km
And with such sizing, it's not a problem to have a small overlap between adjacent maps.

ERRORES/BUGS / Re: Composite Maps

Hi,

I don't know what is exactly the scope of "Min zoom level " and "Max zoom level" when you define that the "Shadow map", or "Slope map" or "Relief map"exist.
And I didn't imagine that it was this "Shadows" map that you wanted to use, because (at least in free version of OM, 7.4.26) this map is not at all "transparent" and it wouldn't make sense to "compose" it over a background map.

But if you have a look on the screen when you create the composite map, you have also to select min zoom and max zoom of each layer. And for the layer "Shadow map", these values can be only from 9 to 16....

Nevertheless, there is a very more easy way to add shadowing to any map (inc mapsforge maps, but not only) : "Map" Menu / "Overlay options" / "Show/hide shadows" (also available in "Map tools" side menu)
It works fine, and with this option, I don't know if shadowing is actually done when zoom > 16, but at least you can go higher than level 16 on the map currently displayed.

Personnally, I use it so often that I have added a custom button to "Show/hide shadows" more easily.

There also an option "Apply hill shadows" in "Mapsforge settings", but my experience is that its impact on performance is higher than the global "Show/Hide shadows", and that its result is less clear in display. For these reason, I do not use the "mapsforge specific" option, but only the one above. But pay attention : if mapsfrge specific option is set, global option is no more effective with mapsforge maps. So be careful to NOT set it.

What do you call "Shadows" map ?
I guess that this map is limited to zoom 16 ? In this case, it's normal that multilayer combination including "Shadows" is also limited to level 16.

Multilayer map are always limited to zoom level existing for ALL of its layers (and NOT for ANY of its layers)

If my asumption is not OK, pls share "Shadows" mapsource file, that we can test.

GENERAL / Mapsforge 0.19 with "free" version (7.4.26 +)
September 17, 2023, 06:11:41 PM
Hi Jose,

is there any chance that you recompile the "free" version 7.4.26 with latest Mapsforge libraries, allowing users of the free version to get benefice of latest version of Element/Elevate mapstyle of Tobias, that require at least mapsforge 0.19 ?
It would be really great ! :)

Laurent

Special characters, like "&" must be "encapsulated" in a "CDATA" section (on the model of what is done for
and <website> tags in the file).

If you want to name your map "Strava heatmap ride&bluered", the
line has to be

Strava heatmap ride&bluered

You probably do a typo error somewhere modifying the name...

Each line must remain on the form

If you do not understand your mistake / mistyping, pls attach the modified xml file here in order for me to review it and find what's wrong.
