I was wondering this as well. Shouldn't be the opposite? With an accurate DEM, the delta read by the barometer could be used for a local weather forecast!

In my experience DEM isn't always accurate, when correcting tracks afterwards I often get spikes. Still it's handy to read altitudes of distant spot.
The best use would be to get hill shading... any hope, Jose?
