Title: New beta version 8.0.x [CLOSED, NO BETA VERSION AVAILABLE]
Post by: orux on August 03, 2020, 11:12:49 AM
Hello!

We start a new beta version.

:beta8
--Disabled mock location provider. It is not ready for a release. It uses a sensitive permission.
--More changes in the map viewer engine. It should be faster.

:beta7
--try to disabled 3D cache if detect problems
minor changes

:beta6
--minor updates
--bugs correction

:beta5
--return to old mapsforge libraries. The new ones weren't a good solution yet. They do a lot of extra work (then they are slower) and have other bad side effects. Let's hope that in future releases they will find a solution to that problem.
--Changes in the 3D viewer. The problem is that now the application tries to cache in files what takes the longest to do, which is 3D meshing. But I can't seem to get a format that works on all devices, there is something that depends on the manufacturer that I do not control. If this doesn't work, I'll see how to disable cache when it's not supported.

:beta4:--some changes in mapsforge libraries:
-added option to modify global scale of objects in global settings - maps - mapsforge settings
-changes to avoid labels cut at the margins of the tiles. does it work? Is rendering slower?
--bug correction with 3D view--select a map for using when creating track thumbnails

:beta3--bugs correction

:beta2--some bugs correction

News:
1.-New Trip Computer View, with satellite information. It should work with both internal or external GPS. You can hide (from the sky view) satellites if you tap the constellation name to the right. And you can sort the satellite list if you tap the column name.

There is a 'save button' at the top buttons bar, that logs the NMEA sentences to a file. Useful for testing purposes,

2.-Map buttons with actions: Global settings-->Application-->Assign actions to keys. If you use an external keypad, keyboard, or similar device, paired with your Android, you can select what each button does.

3.-A new Overlay draw tool. Maps button-->overlay options-->draw overlay. the bottom-left is for selecting the mode you draw lines/polygons/waypoints. Now you can draw with the finger, or with consecutive taps.

(https://i.ibb.co/RzH3LKF/Screenshot-20200802-190346.jpg) (https://imgbb.com/)

4.-OruxMaps as mock locations provider. With that tool, you can replay your Tracks, or use them as simulated locations for other apps. It is a bit hidden that feature:
a) you have to enable developer options in your Android.
b) then, in Developer options, select OruxMaps as mock locations provider app.
c) In the current beta, the only way to start/stop mock locations is by adding a new button at the left/right buttons bar-->mock locations button.d) When you press that button, the app allows you to select the GPX/KML file you want to use for generating mock locations. A new icon will be displayed at the Android buttons bar. If you start the GPS, the app will receive the mock locations, like other apps. If you want to use a Track from your Tracks list, select it, there is a new option to start mock locations with that Track.

(https://i.ibb.co/KzkyDp1/Screenshot-20200802-190311.jpg) (https://imgbb.com/)

You can tweak the mock locations speed if you open the right panel, there are two +/- buttons to increase/decrease the speed of locations sent to the device.

(https://i.ibb.co/hKVcPcH/Screenshot-20200802-190407.jpg) (https://imgbb.com/)

Use it with care! Remember that are simulated locations for all the apps that are listening for locations!

Hello Orux,
the problem concerning thumbnails as described in reply #280 in https://oruxmaps.org/forum/index.php?topic=28993.270 (https://oruxmaps.org/forum/index.php?topic=28993.270) still exists in v 8.0.5 beta 1 whereas it doesn't occurr in v 8.0.4 GP.

Greetings from Bavaria
A new beta released.

The problem with black tiles is that it is the image returned by the server. Instead of sending nothing, they send a black tile; The app does not know that it is an error.

In the last beta I have changed the default provider, to see if it works better ...

Hello Orux,

everything is fine concerning the thumbnails in v 8.0.5 beta 2.

Suggestion:
Is it possible to let the user choose an offline map from which the thumbnails are being created? So the creation process would be independent of a map provider/server. If no offline map is chosen or available, an online provider could be used.

Hello Orux,

I haven't been here for some weeks (since I have Oruxmaps 8.0.4 from Playstore) and so I'm surprised of the great satellite information in Trip Computer View. Super, good work, really fine!

And the thubnails work too, with beta2. The Idea of Lenz in the reply #4 would also be a great improvement. If you could manage that the user could chose an offline map or custom WMS Service or another custom online provider of which the thubnails are created I would be happy.

Thanks in advance!

Hola Orux.

Hello Orux,

could you add another gps status app to choose, namely SatStat from F-Droid? It's a light, free, and opensource without ads. Very fast, very stable and accessible for everyone. It's so good that I have switched to it after using GPS Status app for many years.
By the way, do you plan to add built-in status windows (possibly accesible by side button from main window)?

Regards.

Hello,
a small detail but which could be very practical, when creating a wmts map, the drop-down list of layers always comes at the top. would it be possible to change that? as well as the zoom configuration
thanks a lot.

Best regards.

Hello,
one note, the map does not move along with the cursor. The cursor crosses about 20-30 m before the map moves. This has been going on for a long time in beta versions, at least for me (android Oreo), the last one that didn't have this problem is version 7.4.22.
Is it possible to adjust the map offset more fluidly when moving in real time?
Sory on bad eng. and congratulations on an otherwise great app.

Hola Orux,
the new beta1 (not tested yet beta3) does not create activity thumbnails.
See attached screenshot.

By the way, tried also to "rebuild" these two thumbnails by giving the command "reload thumbnails", but nothing happened.

Hi, I just installed the new version 8.0.5 beta3 because the 7.5.9 43 required it to me. now the 3D view function no longer works, as I try to see the 3D map sometimes it succeeds but then the program crashes or the application closes and restarts. this happens on a Huawei ascend P8 GRA-L09 with android 6.0, and I am forced to use the beta version to solve the GPS rollover problem. on other devices i have the GP version and i don't have these problems.  :-[ :-[

The rollover week problem can be fixed with the last GP version, you don't have to use the beta to avoid that problem.

Labels overlap using OpenMtbMaps

Hello Orux,

I don't know if this is a bug or a "voluntary" limitation of your application, but I noticed that using off-line OpenMtbMaps (Garmin format), all the labels within the area are displayed regardless of the scale factor.
This, of course, generates "caos" and it makes almost impossible to read the expected to be seen labels for that zoom level.

If you need, I can make a couple of screenshot to better show you the problem. This limitation/behavior is also present in your previous version 7.x.

Hello!
There are no limitations.
The garmin format is a bit complex. The app uses some old (really old) libraries that support this format.

You can tune it in map settings - garmin maps and hide some labels that are not normally useful.

The library is supposed to know which labels to display at each level.

Hola!

I think it is related to the theme, or the cached tiles.
I saw some such artifact at first, but now I see them well.

Try first deleting raster cache in maps settings.

Then load/reload the map theme.

hi, I installed the latest beta 8.0.5_beta4, but the problem of the visualization 3d remains, the defect has changed. When I load the map, the first time I enter 3d mode the map is rendered (not well, many polygons are missing) and does not crash, but if you exit 3d mode and re-enter, the map is not displayed and a gray screen. If I go out again and come back in 2d, I change the map and visualize it in 3d, again the render works, only for once. all maps displayed once in 3d then can no longer be displayed, not even by restarting the device or clearing the cache.  the problem occurs on all the devices I own. I am attaching screenshots of the incorrect display. :( :(

Hello Orux,

Beta 4:

+ choosing maps for thumbnails is great
- rendering (both 2D and 3D) is very slow compared to the last versions
- I also can confirm the "grid" mentioned by Juanjo. Deleting the raster cache and reloading or changing the theme doesn't improve anything (elevate, elements, tiramisu).
- the 3D map is incomplete
- after starting the 3D map for a second time oruxmaps crashes

Hello Orux,

from me also a reply for beta4:

+ first of all, big compliment for the short time in which you react and implement wishes of us users!!!!!
+ choosing maps for thubnails works fine. Thank you so much for this great feature!
+ rendering speed is like before (beta3 and 8.0.5 GP), the map is shown as wished (no truncated labels)
- I also can confirm the "grid" mentionend in posts before, but just with openandromaps and openandromaps map themes. When I use the mapsforge map from http://www.freizeitkarte-osm.de/ and the theme from there, everything is fine. Maybe some more users can test this with other mapsforge maps & themes...
- 3D map works just for the first time use after starting the app. When you try a second time, the screen like posted above appears.

Hello Orux,

as already noticed with earlier betas, pedestrian areas rendered with Mapsforge default theme still look strange in latest beta: with version 7.4.22 shown as hatched pattern  - currently shown as fat black lines. Bug or feature?

Regards

Update:
Seems I found the reason. Mapsforge default theme "default.xml" references patterns contained in jar file "mapsforge-themes-<version>.jar" by xml elements like "<line src="jar:patterns/access-private.png" stroke-width="1.0" />. If subfolder "assets/patterns" is not found within jar file or png file is not contained in subfolder, pattern gets rendered solid black.

Hola ORUX,
first of all thanks for the work you are doing.
in the latest beta 8.0.5 beta5 the problem of the 3d map display remains as in beta4.
I ask for information, which perhaps for others will be trivial, on my device the 7.5.9 beta 43 version works wonderfully, without any bugs, the 3d rendering is perfect. Why won't it work in a short time? for how I use orux I would do without subsequent updates and keep this version forever, but it is not possible, I do not understand this, thanks.   :-\ :-\

Hallo Orux, great work. I tried on three different devices:
Galaxy Note II android 5.1.1 Lollipop
Huawei P8 android 6.0 Maschmallow
Galaxy SIV android 7.1.2 Nougat
In all three devices the 3D map display crash fixed.
The rendering is not resolved, slow, sometimes incorrect and with areas of the map displayed in white.
Still great job, many many thanks.

I can confirm  with beta7, Android10:
3D crash is fixed, rendering is good when starting 3D, but fails when scrolling, tilting, zooming: rendering at edges of tiles is not correct.

Another thing: option for interpolating heights, when using heights from DEM is missing. Is this option perhaps already included now, when heights from DEM is activated?

Hola Orux,

I also can confirm the 3D bug in the latest beta.

While working with tracks and waypoints I got the following problem: when I work with custom POIs in my created subfolders in POI-folder and chose POIs of one of the subfolders (e.g. POIs out of subfolder "guideposts") and after that I open the track manager then the same custom POI-subfolder than chosen before in the POI-section appears instead of the standard track-folder where my tracks are saved. When I now chose the standard Tracks-folder and after that open the POI-Folder, then here also the standard POI-folder is shown and not the one chosen before.

I use oruxmaps for many years now but this is the first time I found this problem. Maybe it is possible to seperate the structures of the folders/subfolders in POI and Tracks... I hope you understand what I mean, in English it ist a bit difficult to describe.

edit: it may also be helpful to split the function "remove tracks/waypoints" in Routes folder to "remove waypoints" in POI folder and "remove tracks" in tracks folder. With this function it would be possible to remove the waypoints and leave the tracks or so on on the map.

Hello,
links for direct map-downloads (add maps/other sources) don't work.
They refer to file:///data/user/0/ .... and not to a correct URL.

Hello,
in "Trip computer viewer" in route recording mode it does not always display the data for "Sunset" (usually after multiple switching from "Trip computer ..." to the map and vice versa)?

(http://thumbs.subefotos.com/1170d12f97a7cf2f360420e9e7f0cab3o.jpg) (https://subefotos.com/ver/?1170d12f97a7cf2f360420e9e7f0cab3o.jpg)

Y lo mismo para el km 40 --> 10.4%
Y para el km 41 --> 8.6%

Hello Orux,
I don't know if it is bug or a wanted feature, however I have noticed that in the Trace Management Page only a few recorded activities have the red icon of Strava, on the top right area, even if are actually all synchronized with Strava.
In the attached screenshot you can see it on the activity dated 2020-08-27, however also the other 2 activities on top are perfectly synchronized in Strava.
Kind regards, Andrea

For realistic values of Altitude on track I would like to get back the option "Apply altitude filter" to uncheck.
Till 7.5.10GP there was the option and also on 7.4.22 or now on 7.4.23 and I have realistic values.
Why is it not possible to get it back?

moving the graph of the route is not possible.

i can zoom, but not moving arround.

see attachment, i want to zoom to my current position. but zoom is always to center of the graph, so my position leaves the graph to the right.

Hi Orux,

I have a Pixel 2 XL, and since I upgraded to Android 11, I don't have access to the memory with the current beta version.

I already tried to reinstall and granted the appropriate rights. Nevertheless I can't load e.g. an offline map from the configured folder.

With the last official version (7.4.22) it works without problems.

buenas don Orux!!!!!!

Saludos

Hi Orux,
with the last update a display problem has appeared, when I have the phone with the application running and the display off, when I turn the display back on, the map no longer appears but only the white screen with the red trace of the route I am recording , to make the map in use reappear I have to touch the screen and move the map below, in this way the map reappears.

Hello Orux,

for me also in beta8 the problem as described in the post before appears. We had that bug some betas ago and you were able to fix that.

One suggestion for Mapsforge POI search: would it be possible to search not just in the "Name" and also in the "ref" or other tags. I ask because search for emergency access points, which normally don't have a name but a ref, is not possible by ref. I tested in another app (Cruiser) and here it works. It would be nice if you could implement or fix that, because we use openandromaps, which contains all emergency access points in our region, for rescue operations. Thanks!

Hola Orux,

it's me again. While working with beta8 I recognized that rendering of Geo-PDF maps is much more worse than in the GP-Version 8.0.7 and the web-Version 7.4.23. In nearly every Geo-PDF map many (up to half of the display) raster tiles are not rendered or shown in the map. It doesn't matter if you chose the orux PDF-Engine (that ist chosen by default) or you manualle chose the Andorid-PDF-Enginge. It happens in both cases and every Geo-PDF map I have. If necessary I can send you a screenshot.

Hello Orux,

the new beta 8 has a problem with the thumbnail of the traces/activities recorded.

It looks that in some cases it does not show the map layer (please see the attached screenshot).

I tried to fix the problem issuing the command "reload thumbnail of the traces/activities" (sorry for the bad translation, I am using the Italian version, I don't know how you called it in the English version). However, no way to have the map displayed along with the trace.

All the best.
Andrea

Hello Orux,
in 8.0.5 beta 8 rendering is very slow on my Xiaomi Redmi 4x and so it is in GP 8.1.1. Beta 7 works very fast with OpenAndroMaps + DEM files.

From (at least) beta 7 to GP 8.1.1 the weather symbols are missing in the forecast.

as mentioned above, 8.0.5 beta 8 is unusably slow in showing the maps and so is 8.1.2 GP (on my Xiaomi Redmi 4X). 8.0.5 beta 7 works very fast but it will expire soon. Is there any chance to get this beta 7 with unlimited running time?

Thanks in advance

Hello,
Do you think that there is a way to avoid the creation of thumbnails? It's to have a lighter data base.
