9 days ago I was still able to upload traces to OpenStreetMap (OSM), but now I get a "Moved Permanently" error.

This may be caused by OSM move to https on all of its protocols.

The http://www.oruxmaps.com/oruxmapsmanual_en.pdf">OruxMaps manual explains how to define new maps from Tile and WMS online sources.

Is there a way to define a composite map (a.k.a. "multimap") with an XML file so it can be shared like the custom online map sources?

If this is not possible yet, I think it would be an important enhancement, since the alternative is a writing 6-page document like the https://forums.gpsfiledepot.com/index.php?topic=4203.msg23393#msg23393">PDF file here

The offline search capabilities of the OpenAndroMaps POI databases are exceptionally useful.

Since the search is restricted to the area shown on the screen, it would be useful for any map. Any offline map can benefit from such a search capability. In fact, it can also be useful as an alternative for the Google search when using an online map.

It would be great if OruxMaps maintains a list containing the "coverage area" for every POI database, and allows offline search in the appropriate database/s whenever there is an overlap between a "coverage area" and the area shown on the screen.

Thanks again for adding support for OruxMaps SQLite maps in orux-map:// URLs in earlier production versions!

There are still a few open issues with the map download mechanism. I'm not sure the issues are related to the type of map. It is more likely that the issues are experienced more often when downloading large maps

  • If downloading fails, un-zippings starts rather than aborting the operation and deleting the "mapfiles/.temp.mp" temporary file. To reproduce the issue, turn on flight mode during the download.
    • If mapfiles/.temp.mp exists, a new download would not not start.
    • There is no download progress in notification message for files larger than 2Gb [max signed integer]. For example, a 2.2Gb file such as [url]orux-map].

  • Thanks, steed;

Please, you can try with last beta update,

    orux

All the above issues were fixed, Thanks!

I did notice, however,  that if there was a problem, the notification says "All operations done" rather than "Download failed", "Installation failed", or some such.

For me, raster offline maps are still shifted. Re-installing Beta 20 does not help.

The same offline maps are fine with 6.5.10, but Beta20 has a ~ 2.0-2.5 Km shift to the South-West (~ 210 degrees).

The shift distance is different in different places. May be it is a projection issue!?

The maps were created from online map tiles with MOBAC. The online map "Israel Hiking map" is also OK.

    Map example [750Mb]: http://israelhiking.osm.org.il/Oruxmaps/IsraelHiking.zip">//http://israelhiking.osm.org.il/Oruxmaps/IsraelHiking.zip

or orux-map://israelhiking.osm.org.il/Oruxmaps/IsraelHiking.zip from your Android device.

    Thanks!

    I found the bug.

    An update soon,

    orux

    Thanks for the fix!

The pop-up menu for the Track list is not scrolling. As a result, several actions, such as "Upload to ...", are no longer accessible.

    Using beta20.

Not a new issue with the beta, but perhaps it is an opportunity to fix it.

Waypoints in the GPX exported by Oruxmaps include the "desc" field even when it is empty. When importing it to OSM with the Potlatch 2 editor, it created empty "desc" tags.

Empty tags, such as "desc", are a problem for OSM data, as all tags are expected to have a non-empty value.

Would it be possible to avoid adding empty "desc" entries to the GPS waypoints?

ERRORES/BUGS / Offline composite map issues
    May 27, 2016, 08:15:53 AM
Offline composite maps are great, thank you!

However, I have some issues using them:
    [list=1]
    • Oruxmaps SQLite maps created in MOBAC do not show in the maps drop-down list for selection. An .mbtiles map created with MOBAC is OK. Could it be an issue with the 512x512 tiles!?
    • A transparent overlay is loosing its transparency if used with "Apply multiply effect to this layer".
    • I can only guess what "Apply multiply effect to this layer" could mean. Could not see any difference when applied to the base layer or when the transparency was gone. There was no mention of it in the manual.

    ERRORES/BUGS / orux-map:// URL not working
    June 16, 2015, 02:51:02 PM
I'm using OruxMaps v.6.0.9 Donate and I'm unable to install OpenAndroMaps directly to the phone using the "Install on OruxMaps" button.

    The button's URL is orux-map://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/misc/openstreetmap/openandromaps/maps/europe/Spain_Portugal.zip

    • The error message says: "Couln't find an app to open this link".
    • The error message appears when using either Firefox and Chrome.
    • Un-installing and re-installing OruxMaps did not help.

.-added support to offline composite maps.

It should work with mbtiles, mapsforge, garmin compatible, and OruxMaps maps downloaded using OruxMaps.->Mercator projection maps.

If all the maps use 512px tiles (mapsforge and garmin) the result will be a 512px tiles maps. If there are mixed tile size maps, the result will be a 256px tiles map.

Thanks for adding the support to offline composite maps!

I'm creating an offline Hiking map for osm.org.il, and people can download freely from https://drive.google.com/?tab=mo&authuser=0&urp=https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?ui%3D2%26shva%3D1#folders/0B-qrsEBJWXhQekowMzBPc1plc3c">this Google Drive location.

This is an OruxMaps SQL format map created using Maperitive and MOBAC with Mercator projection.

However, I don't see this map as an option for the offline composite maps.

In fact, I don't see any of the offline maps I've created using OruxMaps Desktop or MOBAC.

    • Is this because the map was not "downloaded using OruxMaps"!?
    • If that's so, how can people download the map using OruxMaps?
    • Alternatively, how can Mercator maps created on a local PC be used as part of an offline composite map?

    Thanks,

    Zeev

Thanks! I appreciate the reference to the discussion from 2 years ago. It seems like several people were looking for such a feature back then.

It seems like the issue with re-projection can be avoided by allowing access to offline maps that do not need re-projection, instead of blocking access to all offline maps.
