BETAS / Re: New beta version, 7.5.9betaX
January 25, 2020, 09:04:50 PM
Beta 26 works very nice and looks great on my Galaxy S10. Unfortunately it absolutely kills my battery so instead of getting 4 hours (with 7.4.22) I only get just over 1 hour.

I would like this feature too.

hi all

just wanted to save some time for you in case anyone has the same problem I did :

I have been using mapmytracks for live tracking for a few years without any problems.

It was not working last time I used it though.

I got error in orux : "mapmytracks error: unauthorised" when recording a route and livetracking.

After lots of investigation I found that since Jan 1 2019 you must be a "plus" user on mapmytracks, a free account is not allowed to do live tracking.

It costs $30 per year. Details here: https://www.mapmytracks.com/plus">//https://www.mapmytracks.com/plus

I hope this helps someone.

Quote from: "orux"Hello,

After OM 7.0 you have different altitude dashboard elements to see the altitude from the GPS and the barometer, or DEM (settings->user interface->dashboard).

But only one value is saved with the track, depending on your settings in settings-->sensors->GPS.

Bingo! Thank you and apologies I had missed this feature. Love the app by the way, well done.

Meanwhile I am still wondering if anyone else has problems with their elevation profile in Strava?
#5
For around a year now, Strava has been overstating the elevation on my rides.

The ticket I raised last year was not, in my opinion, addressed by Strava. The ticket is here: https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/requests/656284?flash_digest=37d8f3a710e1fd1481022df1aa7f99c560858825">//https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/requests/656284?flash_digest=37d8f3a710e1fd1481022df1aa7f99c560858825

There are loads of details in the strava ticket.

The problem persists, and I can also eliminate my phone as I have now changed phones.

Both the old one (Sony Z3) and the new one (Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge) had barometric altimeter. I used to edit the gpx file header in order to trick Strava to take my phone's elevation rather than using the Strava algorithms and elevation data.

This approach used to work for a year or so - until March 2016.

So I thought I would check if anyone has any ideas?

Interestingly, although I believe it's unrelated, since the version 7 upgrade it has not been possible to calibrate the barometer on my phone. Whatever option I choose, Orux is showing the incorrect altitude.

I have given up now and generally just leave the gpx header unedited, and leave the elevation calculated by Strava. But it would be nice to get this sorted.

cheers

Been using the app (and donated) for years now, thank you!

Last night I activated the new SOS feature for the first time. Unfortunately something must have gone wrong because the app sent an SOS while I was moving. Not sure if the GPS signal dropped or something else went wrong.

How could I diagnose the issue if it happens again? I'm reasonably technically competent.

Also may I ask why Orux stops tracking when an SOS has been sent? If a false positive is experienced then the user may not realise that the activity is no longer being tracked (I keep mine in my backpack when MTB-ing). Also in an SOS situation it might well be useful for the rescuer to have access to the rider's live position using the live tracking feature.

Without any insight into why Orux stops tracking I would prefer that Orux continues tracking when an SOS has been sent for the reasons above.

thanks!

Thanks for the reply! In my limited testing, entering the known altitude in feet (in the altimeter calibration field) resulted in the wrong altitude brook shown in the dashboard... Entering in meters gave the right altitude.

GENERAL / Calibrate the altimeter in feet or meters?
March 22, 2015, 09:48:22 AM
Hi folks

I have my orux units set to feet. Can someone confirm that the calibration of the altimeter respects that option?

The answer should be yes but I think I have seen that the field should be input in meters.

Thanks!

GENERAL / [TIP] mapmytracks live tracking config
January 24, 2015, 08:01:32 PM
Hi all

just sharing if anyone has trouble with the mapmytracks configuration - the correct url is http://www.mapmytracks.com/api%5Bb">http://www.mapmytracks.com/api/

This url is for the settings in the orux app on your phone (not the url to view your activities on line)

Note the final front slash (/)

Also note that (at least in my testing) you need to be moving for the time on the website to increase

I spent hours trying to make this work because I wrongly assumed you should add your username to the above url!

Hopefully anyone searching for orux mapmytracks url will find this post.

ERRORES/BUGS / Re: ANT+ seems to be getting twisted
March 12, 2014, 10:54:10 PM
Washing the strap has certainly improved matters: oruxmaps is no longer struggling to connect to it. I can switch ANT on and off in orux and as long as I also toggle bluetooth off and on in between, orux consistently reconnects to the HRM. And the connection remains stable. Heaven knows why I'm seeing this bluetooth behaviour but at least (a) I'm ok and (b) orux wasn't the issue.

Thanks again for a great app.

Sorry for triple posting the same issue. I hadn't realised that posts were moderated. I thought my postings were failing.

I've been doing more testing. The earlier info below is unfortunately not quite accurate - the "fix" (switching off the ANT+ service in the app and then toggling off and back on bluetooth before switching ANT+ on again in the app) only provides a temporary fix. Within a minute or two the ANT+ connection is again being lost.

I have been testing the phone on its own and in parallel with my PC (using Golden Cheetah). The PC is rock solid and continues when the phone drops. So I had thought this proves no issue with the HRM.

But I am now quite convinced the issue is with my HRM. The reason why I'm not seeing errors on my PC could easily be that the PC is better able to handle problems than the phone. I read last night that my HRM is susceptible to dropouts, I have a Garmin soft strap. I've used it twice a week for 2-3 months and never washed it - which I now read is naughty, I should be washing it every couple of weeks!

I'm going to wash it and re-test. I'll post the outcome here.

ERRORES/BUGS / ANT+ seems to be getting twisted
March 11, 2014, 12:33:27 PM
Sony Xperia Z1 stock firmware (based on Android 4.3).

Garmin soft strap HRM.

I find that when I start ANT+ in oruxmaps sometimes it connects to my HRM without any issue, but then crashes later or sometimes it doesn't connect at all.

I also find that if it has connected by then I stop ANT+ in oruxmaps and then start again, it never connects to my HRM.

The fix in both cases is to stop ANT+ via oruxmaps, toggle off bluetooth and then start ANT+ again in oruxmaps. Works 100% of the time, guaranteed.

When I am experiencing the issue connecting to the HRM, if I have toggled on the Developer Option "Show all ANRs", I am getting ANRs from the ANT radio service.

When I am experiencing the issue connecting to the HRM, if I do not stop ANT+ in oruxmaps and toggle off bluetooth, bluetooth is restarted. I cannot understand why bluetooth is seemingly being activated by ANT+/oruxmaps.

ERRORES/BUGS / ANT+ not working last few weeks
March 11, 2014, 09:39:42 AM
Not sure when this started, but probably 2 or 3 weeks.

My ANT+ Garmin soft strap HRM has been very unreliable. Occasionally it works but most if the time not. My Garmin speed/cadence sensor has been fine throughout.

The HRM either never connects or it connects and later drops. I put this down to battery but have changed it with new and no improvement.

I also tried rebooting, deleting the sensor, a different phone, uninstalling orux, removing all the data and uninstalling orux, etc etc.

I see some other folks with orux issues. Was working fine for me for the last 3 months prior. Can I have an older version to test please?

Thanks

Paul

Delighted with my oruxmaps for more than a year now, but for the last 2 or 3 weeks maybe I have had problems with my ANT+ HRM. Although my combined speed and cadence sensor is fine, my HRM is not working far more times than it is working. All seems fine in ipsensor man, obviously I have tried rebooting, deleting the sensor and recreating, uninstalling the app, changing the battery etc. Wondering if there is a recent bug. Would like to try an earlier version if I can fidn it. Will come back with results.

Sony xperia z1 stock ROM. Garmin soft strap HRM.
