Didn't try it but

But according the website OKmap can convert to Oruxmaps format too...

QuoteOkMap include a feature to generate automatically compatible Garmin Custom Maps (KMZ format) and maps in OruxMaps format.

Thanks, I didn't remember this, so I tested it on a map I've already converted via OruxMaps Desktop... When saving directly from OKMap (v13.12.2) to OruxMaps format you can only get 1 zoom level (17) and the map would not refresh well (ie; it displays many blank tiles until you scroll past and wait).  The same exact map saved first as OKMap then converted using OruxMaps Desktop can have multiple zoom levels (very useful) and has no problems at all refreshing at any zoom.  So, it seems well worth the extra step.

I don't get on the forum too often, but if you're still wanting to geo-ref your image or for anyone else who wants to scan maps for OruxMaps...

I convert scans (1200dpi) of my Green Trails maps to Orux with excellent results.  This will work for JPG but not PDF.

You need 2 programs: OKMap Creator and OruxMaps Desktop.  OKMap Creator will Geo-Reference the JPG and save it as a raster map (there are probably others that would do this as well, but this is what I use).  OruxMaps Desktop will convert the resulting OKMap to OruxMaps format so you can use in the program.

  OK Map Creator:  https://www.okmap.org/en/en_okmapDesktopFeatures.aspx">//https://www.okmap.org/en/en_okmapDesktopFeatures.aspx

  OruxMaps Desktop: https://www.oruxmaps.com/cs/en/more/downloads">//https://www.oruxmaps.com/cs/en/more/downloads

Here are the steps:

Using OK Map Creator:

1.) Open your JPG as a new Raster Map

2.) Under Map Calibration - click Map Setup

3.) Enter a Name for the Map, click Next

4.) Enter the Datum used for your Map Projection (this should be on the map, most of my Green Trails Maps are WGS84-UTM Zone10N)

5.) Then enter 4 Geo References as shown in the link below.  I use UTM coordinates on the GT Maps.  (click 'Add' under Map calibration to create additional reference points).

Carefully locating these points is the key to having an accurate finished map

Use this layout for geo-refs to calibrate: https://1drv.ms/u/s!APjkSOPhnCRNjH4">//https://1drv.ms/u/s!APjkSOPhnCRNjH4

NOTE: This layout yields MUCH better results than just picking 4 corners.  Notice the points are not in a direct line or diagonal with one another.[/list]

6). Click Accept, then SAVE as OkMap

Using OruxMaps Desktop:

1.) Open the OkMap you just created as a Calibration file

(the Image file, Datum, and GeoRefs should all populate automatically)

2.) Enter The Map Name you want to appear in OruxMaps

3.) Select the directory where you want to store the finished map on your PC

4.) Select 100% jpeg format quality

5.) Check Multilayer and select 50%, 25% & 12.5%

6.) Check Sqlite format

('Only otrk2 file' should NOT be checked)

7.) Click Create Map

This will create a folder containing the OruxMaps files.  Copy the folder to your mobile device in the OruxMaps 'Map Files Directory' you've set.

Hope this helps!

GENERAL / Re: Transfer OruxMaps to another device

HERE IS THE PROBLEM:

The oruxmapstracks.db (Internal MemOruxmapsTracklogs) has a table called 'ext' which stores the link (WITH THE FULL PATH!) to photo waypoints - THIS IS THE PROBLEM!

It is much better practice to NEVER hard code paths (or any other data) which has a user defined setting elsewhere in the app!  Instead the app should store ONLY the unique information (in this case this name of the photo file) and take the users setting for anything else (in this case the folder path)!

I could write an SQL query to manually update the fields with the corrected info, but then I'd have to manually run this and then copy the db each time I want to sync the app with my tablet (every week).  Is there another solution??

Better yet:

Would it be possible for the developer to update this???

I suppose the given path for the phone isn't correct. The Android folder on SD contains app configuration files but not the data that should be synchronized.

Unless OM is saving to phone's internal storage, there must be a directory "/storage/external_SD/oruxmaps/" (with subfolders "cursors", "customwpts", "dem" ... "tracklogs") on the phone as well as on the tablet,

If you synchronize these two "oruxmaps" folders it should work.

Regards

Claus

Thanks for your reply (sorry for my long delay, I've been away)...

I should have said so more clearly, but I'd already sync'd all the folders on the external sd card, this is not the problem.

However, I did find that the tracklog db is in the internal memory folder oruxmapstracklogstracklogs.db (even if you are saving trackfiles to the external sd card), and it was not being sync'd which is why the tracks were not loaded automatically.  However even after fixing that, I still have the same problem with photos.

Quote from: "drfie"When I use "Sort the Tracks" in "Manage tracks/routes" the sort is not remembered. I am not sure what is the default order, but when I sort it by date, next time I see the list I need to sort them it again. But I would like to have my tracks sorted by date permanently.

I use folders and I have imported tracks from various sources, which probably made their order messy.

I really love your app and very much appreciate all the work you've done!  It's very powerful, by far the best GSP Tracking App for Android...

That said, I would also REALLY like the app to remember the last sort I used, or have the ability to define a default sort for tracks (like you have for waypoints).

Almost every time I go to manage tracks, I have to redefine the sort order!  This is a REAL annoyance!

GENERAL / Transfer OruxMaps to another device
July 07, 2016, 05:21:23 AM
I'm having a problem transferring my tracks to another device, hopefully someone can help...

My question is:

How can I can transfer tracks (with photo waypoints) from my phone to my tablet (both android) without manually creating a kmz file each time?

The Problem is:

After the tracks are copied to the tablet, the photos are no longer linked to the photo waypoints so i can't see the actual pictures, even though I have copied all the pictures to the pictures folder on the tablet (but this is a different location than the phone uses  - see below).

More info:

I'm on v6.5.9 beta.

Maps, tracks, waypoints & pictures are stored in different locations on each device as follows (the phone uses an SD card):

PHONE:

/storage/external_SD/Android/data/com.orux.oruxmapsbeta/files/

TABLET:

/storage/emulated/0/oruxmaps/

I use my android phone on the trail, so I create all my tracks with waypoints and photos there.  I use FolderSync via OwnCloud to periodically transfer these to the corresponding directories on my tablet.  But again, these are in a different location than the phone uses.  The tracks still need to be imported on the tablet manually, but this is easy to do.

I assume the issue is that the phone uses an external SD card (for maps, tracks, waypoints & pictures), whereas the tablet uses internal memory.  I wouldn't mind using KMZ and not transferring the pics separately, but the app (apparently) can't create kmz files automatically.

Does anyone know how to automatically create KMZ files for every track, or have a way to fix the problem of linking the pictures after coping the tracks?

Thanks in advance for any help.

GENERAL / Re: Loaded gpx/kml files aren't added to db
August 08, 2015, 07:17:33 PM
I figured it out since I posted this question and thought I post the answer too.

It's really easy, its just that the "import" icon looks more like an "upload" icon.

Click Tracks > Manage Tracts/Routes, then click the up arrow at the bottom of the screen and select GPX/KML.

GENERAL / Loaded gpx/kml files aren't added to db
August 07, 2015, 12:09:27 AM
Hi, First of all I love your app!  Very well done, however, I can't figure out how to import tracks...

After creating a gpx file on one device, exporting it and copying to my LG Phone TrackFiles directory, I then load the track and see it on the map with all the waypoints and stats.  The problem is that I don't see how to actually add it to the database.  The tracks are not visible in the view/manage tracks list.  After clicking 'remove' they are truly gone and need to be loaded again from the gpx/kml file.

The released version and beta 6.5.0rc2 both have the same behavior as do both of my devices (LG Phone-android 4.4.2 & Kindle Fire HD).  I've tried loading a gpx file created in OruxMaps (on a different device) as well as loading kml files created in other apps, both appear to load correctly and can be viewed on the map, but will not show in the database (manage tracks/routes).

How can I actually import gpx/kml tracks into the OruxMaps database?

Thanks, Bill
