GENERAL / Recommendations for a Watch with Bluetooth GPS
December 03, 2015, 04:24:35 AM
Hi, I'm using an Onyx T68 e-ink tablet with OruxMaps for my bushwalking and kayaking as it is visible in sunlight. The T68 has no GPS, so I pair it with my Android phone which acts as a Bluetooth GPS receiver.

I'm thinking of buying a watch or fitness tracker with built-in GPS and Bluetooth and have the watch act as the GPS receiver. Can anybody recommend a watch or fitness tracker that has the ability to be a Bluetooth GPS receiver and is known to work with OruxMaps?

Many thanks, Warren

MEJORAS/NEW FEATURES / Support for Serial Port NMEA
November 02, 2015, 08:03:47 AM
I am a long-time and happy OruxMaps user. I now have an http://www.onyx-international.com/index.php/en/boox-products/boox-t-series">Onyx T68 e-book reader with an e-ink screen, so I can see my maps while I am hiking. I have to pair my T68 with my phone as the T68 has no built-in GPS. So, both devices lose battery power.

The T68 has a spare serial port, and I am buying an http://www.adafruit.com/products/746">Adafruit GPS board to connect to this serial port. The next problem is that the T68 does not have support for Android location service, as far as I can tell. There are no files called "*gps*" in /system. Does anybody know if I can confirm the lack of location service?

The Adafruit GPS outputs NMEA sentences at 9600bps. Can anybody suggest a way that I can get OruxMaps to listen to the serial port device? Is there a way I can retrofit the Android location service to the T68 (Android 4.0.4)? Or, can OruxMaps be modified to read from a serial device?

I've found OruxMaps to be so useful that I've already bought the donation version. Is there a way for me to donate again?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions, ideas etc.

Cheers, Warren
