I can't confirm that.  ;)

I also downloaded a certain area on google maps as offline map.

But it does not really covers the same area which is offline presented by the orux wear extension. It really confuses me.  :?

It would be nice if the google maps engine on android wear would use google maps offline maps.

Especially because google just introduced  the "WIFI only" option for maps.

 ;)

Interesting.

I have to test this also.

Would be nice to know, from which cache google takes the map when offline.  ;)

@orux: Is or will there be a other engine besides google maps to display maps in android wear?

Where is the cache?

Frank

Can you try it again, empty cache for Maps first

Settings --> Apps --> Maps -->  Memory (Speicher) --> Empty Cache (Cache leeren)

Thanks

Hello;

It is not possible, because the wear app uses google maps engine (only online maps).

If you don't see the wearable app correctly, I think that there are interferences if you are using both google play and beta version.

orux

Thanks for the clarification.

That is what I thought, that you using an existing engine provided by google. :)

My wear app works fine. Using it more and more.

I'm just back from one week Pyrenees using Orux intensively.

Best App  :D

Quote from: "FG1961"I have 6.5.9 Google play store.

Offline or online maps are displayed on my watch...

Can you make a screenshot?

(AndroidWear App on you phone: "the three dots in the upper right hand corner" --> "Take wearable-screenshot" ("Wearable-screenshot erstellen))

And what map type did you choose on the watch to display offline maps? None, Normal, Satellite, Terrain and Hybrid?

Do you display google offline maps or also OSM, IGN, ... ?

It would be awesome if the watch could display offline maps.

Thanks

It is so quiet here :)

Begin of July I planning a MTB trip to the Pyrenäen and already prepared my Orux with maps and tracks. But i think the watch will stay at home.

As long as it can't display offline maps and the map navigation is more comfortable I relay on my Garmin at the handle bar and the phone with Orux in my backpack/pocket.

Quote from: "tuxman"I've got my sony smartwatch 3 finally  :P

Playing with it a bit, lovely so far.

Oruxmaps installed and connected to phone, tomorrow I'll try it outside...

Good choice.  :geek:

Quote from: "tuxman"...

Something I don't understand very well yet, when Oruxmaps is running and watch goes to screen off (is it what you call ambient mode?) after touching the screen I got back to watch face screen and need to go to app menu to open oruxmaps again. How can I go directly from sleep mode to oruxmap?

Thanks for all your previous and future posts

The "screen off" is not the "https://developer.android.com/design/wear/watchfaces.html#SpecialScreens">ambient mode".

On ambient mode the screen is still visible, but with less color or even a different screen is shown. e.g. Google Maps or watch faces.

Maybe you have to switch on the ambient mode? Have you set your display to "always on" in the settings of your watch or android wear app?

The problem that you have to start Orux on the watch every time you leave the application on the watch, I already mentioned and should be fixed.

Quote from: "msev"I don't quite understand, this app Lightr increases backlight time right? So its useless for us who want less backlight time? Or am I missing something?

It just increases the time before the watch changes into ambient mode.

How much backlight is used, depends on the watch and mode.

My watch (Moto 360 Sport) has a light sensor in the lower part under the display (Flat Tire). When I'm outdoor and it's enough light (which is most of the time) it uses the reflective and not the backlight display, regardless wich mode.

Your Sony 3 also has an "ambient light sensors", I don't know if it only works in ambient mode or both mode.

The app Lightr - Longer backlight can manage the ambient mode.

There are 4 options in FREE version:
• Off - let system as default
• 10 seconds
• 30 seconds
• 1 minute

Works fine :)

Best Regards Frank

Tried it, works fine.  :D

As a workaround for now ok.

Quote from: "FG1961"Today, a new version was on my SmartWatch.

For whatever reason

The fact is

SmartWatch...

This is the 6.5.7. which I tried already for several days (Orux recommended it in this thread) and matches my observations.

Big improvement compared with the 6.5.6.

Will try the new Beta 6.5.8. soon. :)

Ok, will try this. Thanks.  ;)

The backlight should be outdoor anyway automatically reduced to a minimum (mine is doing that) and therefore it has not necessarily switch to ambient mode to save battery.

The Sony 3 and the Moto 360 Sport have a reflective component in there display, so we don't need backlight.

1b) The current position is avlive til 'Ambient Mode' is displayed then stops updating  :o ...

Yes, this is also what me bugs most.

This together with showing offline maps and orientation of the map in moving direction

But even Google Maps is not that much better  :o

Here you see how it looks when navigate with google Maps.

Ok, the Map orientation is in moving direction.

Ok, the ambient mode is very good readable.

But, the map is also not ongoing updated.

(On the example I'm already outside of the Map. The funny thing is, that the text in the lower area is correct.  :D )

And on google I can not follow .gpx Tracks.

Quote from: "msev"It would also be nice to have altitude profile on the map and current altitude indicated...

Yes that would be nice.

Current altitude should be no problem and could be introduced with editable data fields.

An additional screen with altitude profile and the current position would be very, very nice  :D

Like on the Garmin Edge series where you can run courses with altitude information

http://www.scarletfire.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/9967.bmp">

Quote from: "msev"... Also it would be nice to be able to load the track as route with some button automaticly so it shows on the map, or with voice command.

I don't want to much functions and settings on the watch. I don't even see Orux as a standalone on the watch. For me the main settings have to be done on the phone, where the watch just displays some information transferred from the phone.

No, I also don't want the Android Wear support be removed.

It is already a big step in the right direction.

But Orux spoiled us with the great performance and features of the app for the phone.  8-)  8-)  8-)
