Hi Orux,

please find some screenshots here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/gnjv8i9fmndzktf/AAAGeh_3vOOOtqGCMhaHidHsa?dl=0">//https://www.dropbox.com/sh/gnjv8i9fmndzktf/AAAGeh_3vOOOtqGCMhaHidHsa?dl=0.

They all show the same area with different zoom levels.

If I can do anything for further diagnosis, please let me know.

I have been using Oruxmaps now for a long time on my Huawei Ascend P7 without problems, the latest version was 7.2.14. Now I have installed the same version on my new Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) and have the following problem:

When I load a vector map and zoom in, the map is shown magnified, but Oruxmaps fails to show a more detailed view. When I load the map and zoom out, the map section is shown smaller, but the area around it remains blank.

To find out if the problem was related to the phone or the Android version (5 vs. 7), I have re-installed Oruxmaps on my old phone, which I had reset meanwhile. Surprisingly the old phone showed now the same problem.

To find out if the problem was related to the OruxMaps version, I have then installed the old version 6.5.10 on my old phone and it worked. Then I installed the new version on the old phone and it worked too.

Then I tried the old version on the new phone and it worked. After updating to the new version it worked on the new phone as well, but after playing around a bit I had the same problem again.

After that I re-installed V6.5.10 on my new phone again, and everything seemed fine until I scrolled the map so far that OruxMaps had to load another offline map. Since then the problem occurs also with the old version.

I also tried online vector maps (OSM mapnik) -> same problem.

So here are my conclusions:

1. The problem is not related to the Android version.

2. The problem occurs with both online and offline vector maps.

3. The problem is likely NOT limited to OruxMaps V7.2.14.

4. Possibly the problem is "triggered" by loading another map.

I know that the above may sound confusing, but if there is anything I can do for further diagnosis, please let me know.

After there has been no reply in 2 months, I wonder if I have made something wrong or didn't post this issue correctly.

Anyway, here is a summary of my earlier post plus some additional information:
[list=1]
    • I am using OruxMaps v6.5.10 and Android 5.1.1 on a Huawei Ascend P7.
    • The problem is that I can use the online address search only via WiFi but not over mobile internet.
    • When I start an address search, I receive always an error message though my mobile data connection works fine with all other apps.
    • I have activated mobile data for OruxMaps.

I hope that someone can help me to find the reason for the problem or at least give me a hint what else I could try.

    Thanks,

Quote from: "orux"It should not happen, unless you have set up some kind of energy saving which prevents more than one task simultaneously.

Hi Orux, thank you for the quick reply. "Energy saving" was the right keyword: My phone offers a setting "protected apps", where you can allow specific applications "to continue when the screen is off". Actually the feature works a bit different - when the screen is off it stops only applications that are in the background. Anyway: after adding Oruxmaps to the "protected apps" the problem was gone.

    Thanks a lot!

    Steps to reproduce problem:

    • I start Oruxmaps and then start track recording (symbol with red button).
    • After GPS fix track recording starts and track is displayed on the screen, as expected.
    • I turn the screen off to save power.
    • After some time I turn the screen on. The track recording has continued as expected.
    • Now I want to use my calendar. I press the Android home button and start the calendar app.
    • When finished, I turn the screen off to save power.
    • After some time I want to see my recorded track. I press the Android "App manager" button and select Oruxmaps.
    • Oruxmaps appears in the foreground as expected.

    Observed behavior]

    • The most recent part of the recorded track is shown as a straight line from the position where I have started the calendar app to my current position
    • The record button is again red as if track recording was inactive.
    • When I click the record button, a message is shown that track recording is already running and some options (new segment, new track etc.) are offered.

    Expected behavior:

    • The track recording should continue in the same way as when I turn off the screen, even while the calendar app is active and in the foreground.
    • The record button should remain blank (white) as long as the track is recorded.
    • When I press the record button, the track recording should stop without additional questions.

    Additional info:

    • The problem occurs not only with the calendar but with other apps as well.
    • It seems that the problem occurs always as long as Oruxmaps is not in the foreground.

I didn't find a setting that influences the problem. So it would be nice if this could be fixed in one of the next versions.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

I have the following problem with Oruxmaps v6.5.9 (v6.5.7 showed the same problem):

The address search function does not work over the mobile data network. When I try to search an address, I always receive an error message after some seconds (something like "Processing error") and nothing is found.

As the problem does not occur with WLAN, I thought that there is a problem with my mobile internet connection, but I didn't find anything wrong. I have checked the following things:
    • The mobile network is available and mobile internet is accessible.

    • Oruxmaps has access rights for mobile internet, but when I start an address search, the mobile data transfer indicator becomes not active. It looks as if Oruxmaps doesn't try to access mobile internet at all.

    • I have understood that Oruxmaps obtains the GPS coordinates from Google. Thus I have tried the app "Geocode by address" that also obtains GPS coordinates from Google - it works without problems over the mobile internet.

    • It doesn't make any difference if I allow mobile data access for several Google services (including Google maps) or not.

    • It doesn't make any difference if I allow mobile background data or not.

So I am a bit helpless what else the reason for the problem might be.

I use an Huawei Ascend P7 phone with Android 5 and OruxMaps V6.5.9.

Any help is appreciated. Of course it is still possible that I have overlooked some setting.

    Thanks,

    Gervin
