Yes, as I mentioned in the first post,

I discovered by trial and error that

.map and .mbtiles would work.

The mapzen file formats had some .xml and .dbf files

so I thought they might work also.

Quoteyou can find more info in the manual -> oruxmaps.com

Thankyou, in fact I have read the manual maybe 10, maybe 15 times.

The map types is page 12.

I have read this page maybe 20 times.

It says:
QuoteOruxMaps uses a proprietary map format map...

...

A map is a folder with the name of the map which contains:

Always: a file with the extension .otrk2.xml with calibration data.

A file with the extension .db or a series of folders with map images.

But this is not correct.

For example, I can download and open .map files.

.map files are not files with the extension .xml or .db.

So I assume the manual is not up to date.

So if I can open .map files,

I wonder what other kinds of map files I can open.

Thanks, yes, I have taken several maps from there,

and they work well, especially with the themes.

Really I am just trying to understand better the subject of getting maps into Orux.

Please excuse a map beginner question.

I was interested in adding into Orux some openstreetmap extracts from Mapzen

   //mapzen.com/data/metro-extracts

It makes maps available in 6 formats., with examples of the contained files:

format contains
osm pbf hong-kong_china.osm.bin
osm xml hong-kong_china.osm
osm2pgsql shp hong-kong_china_osm_line.dbf
hong-kong_china_osm_line.shp
etc
osm2pgsql json hong-kong_china_osm_line.geojson
hong-kong_china_osm_point.geojson
hong-kong_china_osm_polygon.geojson
imposm shp hong-kong_china_osm_admin.dbf
hong-kong_china_osm_admin.shp
etc
imposm geojson hong-kong_china_admin.geojson
etc

but when I copy any of them into /oruxmaps/mapfiles (on Android),

Orux doesn't recognise any of them.

I have successfully imported .map and .mbtiles with no problems.

Am I doing something wrong?

GENERAL / where are preferences kept?

I have just been using OruxMaps for a week - I like it a lot.

Takes a lot of learning for a beginner!

I want to be able to save my settings/preferences (on Android) in case I change my phone or change my OS.

Where are the settings kept?

There is a folder:
oruxmaps/preferences
but it is empty.

thanks
