BETAS / Re: new beta 7.0.11betaX
May 25, 2017, 10:12:12 AM
Hi Jose,

Installation of Maps + Pois works perfect fine - Thanks.

New Multilingual Maps with included POI-Files are available for direct install on OpenAndroMaps.

The POI structure will be improved over the next weeks.

The foldable/colapsable POI-Categories are perfect at OruxMaps for a more advanced POI-structure.

On problem occurs both on Orux released version and Beta:

I have 2 Android 4.4.2 devices and on both OruxMaps crashes when I try to display an overlay with all POIs of a category.

(The 3 Squares in the right upper corner of the POI-Screen)

On the OpenAndroMaps Forum users confirmed this behaviour.

On my Android-5 Tablett everything is fine.

How could I provide a crash log?

Hi Orux,

OpenAndroMaps ist ready to offical announce the multilingual maps for direct download/install.

The download/install via actionscript is already working at openandromaps.org.

However, there is a minor problem with the poi files.

Eg. when someone is installing the multilingual map of the alps the name of the maps is "alps_ML.map"

The name of the poi file is "alps.poi"

So I included the poi file right in the zip file of the map=

alps.zip includes

alps_ML.map

alps_ML.poi

To avoid any confusion for the users.

SO: would it be possible for you to modify the action script in the new BETA for the map.zip direct install so that an included map.poi would be copied to the maps directory too?

The multilingual maps have a suffix: "_ML"

So where the name of the old map is (eg) "Alps" the name of the multilingual map is "Alps_ml".

Unfortunately this leads to fact that with the _ml maps the poi-Files do not show up in ORUX.

Solution: Copy (eg) Alps.poi > Alps_ml.poi when using the new maps in concunction with the pois.

Sorry for this - I hope that more APP-Providers will intergrate the multilingual maps in near future so that we are able to have only ONE mapset.

GENERAL / Orux: How does autoinstall map+themes work?
November 22, 2014, 11:51:09 AM
Hi Orux,

I want to reorganize the themes and im wondering how do you install the maps + themes included in the download zip's.

In the zip files there is a

*.map

themes_locus.zip

themes_orux_new.zip

Do you trigger the name themes_orux_new.zip and unzip the files to the themes folder?

So what if I rename the zip file?

Best regards,

Christian

BETAS / Re: New beta 5.5.23betaXX

Hi Orux,

Is there a release date for the new version?

The direct install of maps and themes is working on openandromaps.

As more and more users are on this d§$n #&@@ 4.4.2 it would be perfect to have a working and easy install.

BTW: Do you plan to port OruxMaps to windows8 or windows phone one day??

Best regards,

Christian

Hi,

The download tables on openandromaps are now ready for the direct install of maps into Orux.

just klick on the "+" sign left of the mapname and choose >install on Orux.

There were some problems in the beginning - these issues should be resolved now.

The resizing of the downloadtables in responsive view is improved too and should work flawless now.

@Orux:

1. What I'v seen is that after download an installing the map+themes Oruxmaps switches back to osmarender theme (maybe this happens only on my virtual tablett..).

Would it be possible that it switches back to the theme previously used?

2. Is it possible to indicate the status of the download and unziping in Oruxmaps - it takes lots of time to download and uncompress the maps. Maybe user think that the App has crashed without a progress bar (atleast while unzipping).

Hi,

There is a new generation of maps upcoming in the next weeks.

No big deal for you - the old Themes will be 100% compatible with the new maps.

However, the last couple of weeks (weekends ;-) ) I changed the structure of my rendering system.

Now its possible to assign special tagmappings to individual maps with ease, and the simplification-factor too.

Next weeks will see maps with contourlines starting at zoom-level 8 (major/medium) 11 (minor) for maps covering wide empty areas.

Starting with iceland (ready for download) with new contourlines, tags like helipad, shelters, alpine_huts, peaks, volcanos at very low zoom-level and a simplification factor of 3.

There are some additions/changes neccessary for the themes, basicly adding code for contourlines from level 8 on and adjusting the zoom-mins.

The whole posting and a preview of the new iceland.map can be seen here:

Will be both added with the first update 2014.

In addition, have you thought about tracking user downloads on the website and nag the regular downloaders with a message that explains the costs and says a donation would be appreciated to keep thing running?

Its already running on my local test server.

;-)

BTW: I switched on logging of downloads for a couple of days and the daily average is 1600 Downloads (only maps, themes not counted), where only 20% is done by bulk download tools such httrack.....

GENERAL / New service and Licence change at OpenAndroMaps
December 01, 2013, 01:18:44 PM
Hi,

As there were complaints from Users that the setup of the Themes ist complicated I'v set up a new service for download/update of the Themes with a slightly change of the licence to make this possible:

English:

App developers are allowed and encouraged to integrate and sync the themes within their App for free and without further permission from my side as far as they do not charge users for this update-service. However, I would be glad to reeive a short notice from you if you do so.

Download/Sync of the themes (anonymous ftp):

ftp://ftp.openandromaps.org/pub/themes/orux/">ftp://ftp.openandromaps.org/pub/themes/orux/

The themes at this location are not zipped, so a sync within an APP or by eg. foldersysnc or download direct within Android eg. by the Totalcommander (both Apps are available for free from GooglePlay) is perfect possible and legal.

ftp://ftp.openandromaps.org/pub/themes/orux/">ftp://ftp.openandromaps.org/pub/themes/orux/

Die Themes sind NICHT komprimiert, dh. ein sync mit zB foldersync oder oder direktes kopieren mit zB dem Totalcommander (beide in GooglePlay kostenlos erhältlich) ist problemlos möglich.

I'm aware that foldersync is not without problems, especially on 4.x-devices - However, there are lots of sync-apps on the market and an update within an APP (for a developer that manage to make a NavigationAPP) is perfect easy.

Edit: ftp_user= anonymous pwd:anonymous (neccessary for some clients)

Quote from: "febs"It's not only visiting the site, it's also downloading, connecting the phone, unzipping, choosing the folder. For geeks as we are this is super easy (though quite boring anyway!) for ordinary touch and go people that's quite a daunting task.

Hi febs,

You are right - unfortunately, and things get more complicated for users with thoses #'§$'# Android 4.x Devices using RAM, Internal_SD, External_SD aso..

So an App financed by adds would be fine.

I installed Android-Studio, however java is a complete different horse compared to lisp, perl, delphi, clipper, vba, shell, rexx and numerous other I managed to ride during the last 30 years.

AND I'm really afraid to run into all bugs Manufakturers love to implement with their Smartphones.

However, I will (have to) think about ways to provide a solid financial base for OpenAndroMaps - a Downloader would be one of the options to go.

Quote from: "febs"Bump. Nobody else thinks that this feature would be SUPER COOL? :-|

Hi Febs,

It would be perfekt possible (from my side) to provide the themes on ftp/dropbox/GDrive or something else for download/update direct from Oruxmaps or any other APP.

The maps itself.....

Well,

Some clear words about this:

The anual costs for driving the OAM are about 2000Euros (Yes indead, look at the prices/TBW-lifetime of a SSD), the donations cover these costs more or (most likely in my experience) less.

If I would provide maps for direct download (without a donation button ever seen for the user) within an APP I would have to charge user for this (like some Apps do with their own maps) or cancel the OAM because of lack of budget.

The only way to provide payed maps for a small fee would be to provide my own APP - this would mean to run behind Orux/Locus and making all bugs they aleready cleared in long years of making these APPs.

Believe me, I'm thinking a lot how to improve OAM and keep it running for everyone with at least a small plus-zero-balance.

I'm aware too that about 1% of the user donate driving OAM for the 99% that newer provided even one coin for this Projekt.

I'm open for any idea how to improve this situation for everyone.
