GENERAL / Re: Unable to transfer profile to a new device
November 19, 2024, 08:42:36 PM
The unified interface was disabled when I tuned the UI. Now, when I enable it, it reset the UI. If I load my custom profile it doesn't restore the UI as I set it up. My customization comes back when I disable the unified interface.

I don't really get what steps I shall follow in my case.

Hey,

Thanks for your help, but it's not fully clear to me (non native English speaker?)

I understand from you post that the user interface settings are not saved in the profile.

I tried to enable "unified interface" in the settings, but then my customization disappears. It's back if I uncheck it.

So how can I copy the user interface settings to other devices?

Thanks.

GENERAL / Unable to transfer profile to a new device
November 12, 2024, 09:49:12 PM
Hello,

I am using OruxMaps v. 10.7.4 GP.

I created a profile 'orux' on my phone [Samsung S24, Android 14]. I have fine tuned the buttons the way I want them. I would like now to have the same UI configuration on my tablet [Google Nexus 2013 with Lineageos, Android 13]. I installed a fresh OruxMaps on the tablet. I copied from the phone to the tablet the file '...oruxmaps\preferences\4.2\om2_orux.xml' to the same place. I checked before that the file timestamp matches the moment I adjusted the profile.

On the tablet in the profile menu I then press sync. The profile 'orux' appears in the list. I press it and select load. The UI is not updated.

What am I missing?

Nobody has any hint or trick to get the right zoom level?

Like forcing something in OKMap, or changing format...

Or fixing it in the file after correction?

I investigated a bit more this issue. The source website is using Mercator WGS84 epsg:3857 projection, same zoom definition as Oruxmaps, so it's easy to find out the source zoom level. It was 14 (9.55 m/pix at equator).

In Oruxmaps, when zooming in multiple time from a correct level 12 maps:

- with level 14 map: 12@100%, 12@200% (distance increase by 2x), switch to map level 14@100% (distance increase by 2x) => correct behavior
- with (incorrect) level 15 map: 12@100%, 12@200% (distance increase by 2x), 12%400% (distance increase by 2x), switch to map level 15@100% (distance remain the same => is actually level 14 but reported as zoom level 15)

So although the map is set at level 15, it is displayed like a level 14 map. It's however sometimes confusing Oruxmaps when toggling to lower or higher zoom level maps.

As a side note, I checked that all maps are correctly geolocalized in Oruxmaps.

Conclusion, it seems that both OruxmapDesktop and OkMap are sometimes not picking up the right zoom level although the map is already exactly rasterized at a given zoom level as the source website is using the same projection and zoom level definition. Am I doing something wrong?

Hi,

Here is the flow I use to generate offline OruxMaps maps:
- I generate a high resolution png image from a an online map website with a script,
- I use OkMap v14.12.3 to geolocalize the map and save the data in a .map file (OziExplorer format), knowing the coordinate of two points and the projection.
- Then I use OkMap and OruxmapDesktop to generate the Oruxmap map.

With the first map, I got level 15 with OruxmapDesktop and level 14 with OkMap. I then zoom twice on the website and generate another png image, it is too large for OruxmapDesktop and I get level 16 with OKmap (14+2 as expected). I then crop a small part of that second image, and I get level 17 maps both with Oruxmapdesktop and OkMap.

Back to the first map, I compared the xml files:

It's remarkable that resolution, tile size and number of tiles are the same in both files, but not the zoom level. Why is that? How do I get the right level when generating the map with OkMap? Why did I get a higher zoom level on a crop image with OkMap?

Hello,

ViewRanger comes with a feature called buddybeacon which allows to share in real time your position with other users of the app or onto a web page :

http://www.viewranger.com/buddybeacon/v2/#userbar_top">http://www.viewranger.com/buddybeacon/v2/#userbar_top

I find this last option quite interesting when going out hiking, as the track is persistent. A simple URL is enough to share upfront the webpage with your own buddybeacon, so relatives can quickly locate you in case of problem, even long after your mobile ran out of battery.

When it comes to the moving map feature, I rather prefer Oruxmaps  ;). Would it be possible to add under the integration option a Buddybeacon tab, allowing live tracking?

Thanks,

Breto

GENERAL / Transfer preferences to another device
July 05, 2016, 08:40:34 PM
Hello,

I would like to save and transfer preferences to another device. I try to save the profile, copy the preferences/4.2/om2_com.orux.oruxmaps_preferences.xml to the other device and then select restore profile. The preferences are however not updated (position of the buttons over the map for instance).

What's the correct procedure?
