Hi Orux.

Every Track/Route that is loaded to the map, is eventually a list of wpts.

can you please add an option to filter POIs (points of interest) based on distance from whatever are the wpts in the GPX file (after it is load to the map)?

Many thanks!

Hi Orux.

I'm using OruxMaps heavily in my car to navigate off-road trips. (*best navigation app IMO*)

I have 60+ recorded/imported tracks/routes in my DB to choose as a trip.

I wanted to visualize all my tracks/routes from my DB on my offline map, so i can have better understanding where the trip is located geographically before i choose it. for that, I wrote a script that ran on all my Tracks/Routes and builds a list of "Starting Points" from each trip's first wpt into a GPX file. I then manually import the file to the app and filter based on "Starting point". this allows me to present all my tracks/routes geographic location (and add some info in the description).

I can manage with it, but It is very tedious way to work. also, when i want a certain track - i have to go to "Manage Track/Routes" and search it in the DB and then load it.

I wish you could add a feature that will display all tracks/routes from the DB as pins (starting points) on the map (as overlay for example) so tracks/route can have a visual geographic location of a track/route, and clicking a pin will provide an option to see track details or load it to the map.

I hope you and many other users will find this idea good or useful. I really wish to see this feature in OruxMaps...

BTW, if you won't find this idea useful, could you at least add an option to access a local folder from a description (just like you added HTTP links in a description)?

Many Thanks! :)

Quote from: "kerekjoe"you can change the +/- zoom button function in settings menu

(global set / maps / zoom set / on screen keys check box)

Thanks Kerekjoe, that is correct and I know this feature, but I hoped to have the 2 options as buttons. it is best for my usage.

The reason is, I'm using this from my car multimedia unit and the +/- buttons are zooming in/out exactly 1 zoom level (when not reaching the maximum zoom) and this is the optimal zooming to my preference, but sometimes I use the digital zoom when I need to read details from high zoom level.

I find working with the buttons as most convenient.

Thanks :)

Hello!

Please, test last beta version, go to settings-->wpts--> and check 'simplified view option.

Tell me if it works fine, I don't have a database with such amount of wpts :)

Hi Orux.

Sorry for my late response, I've downloaded the Beta and tested the new feature.

Now the Waypoints are loading super fast, but I find it a little useless (no offense   ) without sorting and filtering.

please allow me to suggest maybe to load the POIs into RAM in the background (after the application loads) and keep them in RAM until the application is closed. I don't mind to spend 20-40MB of RAM for this feature and this option may also be configurable in the waypoints settings (so the app can still be resource efficient by default).

One more thing - the fast load only works from "Manage Wpts" menu, so if i long press on a location in the map -> open the menu and choose "Nearest Waypoints" it is loading the Waypoints slowly, ignoring the "Simplified View" option.

BTW - If you want, I can share with you my POIs for testing (even though I'm more then happy to do the tests) or build a demo XML file prepared for import.

In any case, I playing a lot with the app so I don't mind to the tests, just let me know if you want my POIs XML.

Many Thanks! :)

Hello!

Yes, you can sort/filter. In the last beta are added some more options, including the possibility of carrying the wpts. selected to the old screen, to sort them by dragging the items.

Load the Wpts into memory. it is not possible in many cases. 40-50mb can be lots of memory.

But there are some options that will never be possible, because the database has no spatial capabilities, and there are searches, by distance for example, that can not be done.

Hi Orux,

I've tested the latest Beta and it works very fast and I can also filter, but I cannot choose all POIs at once. After filter I can easily have 40+ POIs, which I need to choose all of them one by one with the finger. This makes it hard to use and if there's nothing else that can be done, then I'll have to go back and use the old and slow way.

Hopefully there is a way to make it work.

I much appreciate your attention to this, THANKS!..

Hi Orux,

In the App settings, I can choose if to auto hide the button bar after 10 seconds or keep the buttons always visible.

I wish the 10 seconds option would be a parameter set by the user.

also, and this I wish more - can you please add a setting that I could choose which side of the Buttons Bar (left or right) to keep always visible and the other to hide after X seconds?

I'm using one side (left buttons bar in my case) mainly for zooming and the other side for fast actions. the zooming is something that I'm playing a lot during navigation and it would be very convenient to have them always visible on one side, while the others are hidden and used just when I need them.

Thanks! :)

Hi Orux,

I'm using OruxMaps on a 2 din android car multimedia unit (and on my phone obviously :)).

In my phone, i can digitally zoom the map with the volume keys and I use that feature a lot.

In my car, I cannot use the volume keys for digital zoom and I wished I could use that in the buttons bar.

Can you please add Digital Zoom buttons?

Thanks.

BTW, the "Large Buttons Mode" is an awesome feature for car navigation. I'm glad OruxMaps has it :)

Hi Orux,

When double tapping with one finger, it zoom in the map.

Can you please make double tapping two fingers as zoom out (same level as one finger)?

Thanks! :)

OruxMaps is not intended for such amount of wpts!

I will look for a solution, but it will involve losing many of the functionality of the wpts management screen, which involves loading all the wpts into memory in order to sort them, sort them, ...

Thank you so much for your answer.

so far (again, in my point of view) this point is the "Achilles heel" that makes the difference between an awesome app to perfect app.

Much Appreciated! Cheers!..

Hi Orux,

First I'd like to compliment about the app and say it is (in my point of view) by far the best navigation app for non-urban use.

I purchased the paid version and all my friends did the same to support the further development and show our gratitude.

so, big thanks for this app!  :)

to the subject:

I have ~40,000 POIs that i use with an offline map. the POIs are saved in Orux and works great (filtering, editing, presenting etc.).

The issue is that when I go to "Manage Wpts.", it takes around 2-5 minutes of "Loading" the POIs (depending on the phone/tablet hardware).

There's also different waiting time between OruxMaps version 6.x and 7.x. Version 7.x is slower and has longer waiting time until I see the POIs list.

I'm not sure if to call this a bug, but it is not s "Feature" either... :)

Any chance this can somehow be improved? this is very frustrating every time I have to manage Waypoints.

TIA and Regards,

me.
