route between waypoints

I have two waypoints in my list, and I want to find the best car/bicycle/hiking... route between them. Selecting them and clicking the street symbol at the lower left (2nd to left) in the manage waypoints menu, I get a straight line.



This is certainly one possible route, but of course not what I want...



I know I can do this via route search under the route menu, by adding the appropriate points with + etc., but I want to be able to do this with existing waypoints from my list.



Any ideas?
