Alter colors/shading of raster maps

Is there a way to temporarily change the shading of raster maps, something like 'night mode' in certain gps apps?
I have some maps with quite bright colors which make navigation a bit difficult and I was wondering if there is an easier way than altering the colors of the original original image from the beginning, before converting it to an orux map file.
