A better backtrack

I was doing some exercise today with the backtrack tool. While it works correctly I think it could be made quite a bit better with a simple modification. Currently it just warns you that are too far from the route. This works well on roads or paths, because when you get the alert you just need to go back and search for the missed bifurcation. However in an open field (ski-touring, desert, off-piste scrambling...) it doesn't work as well, because when you get the alert your only option is to stop and check the phone to correct your direction. It would be useful to have:

a) a "ok, you are on the route again" message

b) a progressive "out of route" message, on three levels: "you are going out of route" when the threshold is reached, "you are out of route" when you are at 1.5 times the threshold, and "you are really out of route" when you are at 2 times the threshold.

In this way when you see the error is increasing, you can correct your direction accordingly without the need to look at the phone every 10 seconds which in some situations (e.g. skiing) can be rather complicated.

Thanks,

Maki
