I have a map source which can be accessed either way.

Which would be faster?

Any other considerations?

In my own experience, with spanish topographic maps (two possible sources: IGN wms service and SIGPAC online visor) I prefer the second option: tile server. It seems faster and without download errors.

Hi,

tile servers are faster, because the tiles are created and stored in the database. A WMS creates the tiles on demand.

Thank you both.

I'll be sure to use the tileservers when available.

The important thing is that the WMS are more flexible, you can add or remove layers, for example.

And usually provide data that are not available on tile servers.

For example, in Spain there are thousands of free WMS, offering all kind of information.
