Hi all,

I have a Samsung A41 / Android 10.
And I'm facing the issue that prevents track recording (that stops when app is in background), as described by Orux himself here : https://oruxmaps.org/forum/index.php?topic=38816.0

I tried all the parameterizations I could, either directly relative to OruxMaps app, or to Battery management (in Parameters / Maintenance), without any success.
But maybe I missed something. So my question is very simple :

Is there someone who eventually succeeded in track recording with a Samsung A41 ?

If yes, thanks a lot to explain in detail what you did ! It will hep me, but I'm sure I won't be alone to be helped by such information !

Thanks in advance.

One workaround is to run an apps at the same time which you have not problem with.
I use runtastic.
In that way gps is always on.

LaurentG

I'm a little bit surprised of such a solution !
Did you experiment it on a Samsung A41 ?

I cannot understand why this app (runtastic) wouldn't be set in sleep mode while oruxmaps is ...

BTW do this app (runtastic) display a permanent notification while it's running ?

LaurentG

Bingo ! I have eventually found !

It was not due to "sleep mode" automatically forced by Android (or Samsung "super layer"), but was actually a matter of access rights !

The answer posted by @Juvan1 led me into the idea that the issue was maybe not in OruxMaps itself, but rather in GPS feature.
Then I dig deeply in GPS parameters.... and I found, that (at least on Samsung A41 / Android 10), in GPS parameters, you can grant access to an app
- either "permanently"
- or only when app is "active"
And by default, for OruxMaps, GPS access is only granted "when active"

I have then changed this parameter, to grant OruxMaps with GPS access "permanently"

And since I did that, track recording works fine !  :D :D :D
Of course, I did also the "opposite" test, resetting GPS access "only when active". And immediately, track recording was stopping as soon as screen was off, and draw a straight line, between points each time I turned on the screen and bring OruxMaps to the foreground..

I cannot state that this is THE solution for ALL smartphones that were unable to record tracks in the background, I can only say it is THE solution for a Samsung A41 / Android 10.

But at least, it is worth testing it on other configurations.... and maybe ask Jose / Orux to add it in some FAQ.

It seems that with the latest version Oruxmaps and Android 10 things have improved a lot.
I no longer have a problem recording tracks with my Huawei P30
