Hey,

I was searching for a good map for the Kalymnos island. Unfortunately openstreetmap lacks a lot there (although I'll contrib once I'll be back ;) ).

Some reviews says that the best maps are these: http://www.terrainmaps.gr/index.php?l=en#index">http://www.terrainmaps.gr/index.php?l=en#index

And guess what, they also sell them for mobile devices, via the ViewRanger app: http://www.terrainmaps.gr/index.php?l=en#smartphoneapps">http://www.terrainmaps.gr/index.php?l=en#smartphoneapps

Needless to say, I would had LOVED to buy it from withing OruxMaps and use it in my favorite app rather than getting a separate app.

It looks to me like this could be a neat idea to have legal downloads of quality maps and perhaps for the author to make some money.

What do you think?

Or, as an alternative, just being able to read ViewRanger format maps.

Bump! Don't you like this idea?

Really, that map I bought, is by far superior to any other topographic map, nowadays there is very little openstreetmap data there.

On the professional digital map I bought, there are plenty of hiking paths, all the climbing crags, and more.

How cool would it be to be able to use it from within OM? With DEM elevation and all of its powerful features.

Hi, febs

It is a good idea to sell maps via the application. The problem is that there are too many different formats, there is not an universal and/or open format, and support each of the formats is a headache. If I had a single format, that would protect the rights of authors, would be great.

I see. But please see for yourself how inferior is the best map I could get for OruxMaps compared to the map I could buy in view Ranger.

Do you really want to leave us poor users to choose between inferior programs with quality maps, or the superior program with poor, mostly useless data for several areas? :-)
