I never check graphs, but i generally give a reading at the stats. I've seen sometimes unbelievable max speeds. It generally occurs when I enter areas with poor reception of the GPS signal and I have very fast/short recording intervals. Since in that case the GPS reading jumps wildly I suppose that it may be recording very large movements in a short time so it gives you a false reading of a very high speed. But it may happen the opposite as well.



I also had problems of spikes when correcting the altitude graphs with DEM. DEMs aren't perfect, especially if you move across tile boundaries it's very easy to get uncorrect results. If you check OpenandroMaps or OpenCycleMaps contour lines you can easily see errors due to this problems.



That said, you may have a defective unit or there may be other causes. Have you tried to use another app to compare?
