1b) The current position is avlive til 'Ambient Mode' is displayed then stops updating  :o ...

Yes, this is also what me bugs most.

This together with showing offline maps and orientation of the map in moving direction

But even Google Maps is not that much better  :o

Here you see how it looks when navigate with google Maps.

Ok, the Map orientation is in moving direction.

Ok, the ambient mode is very good readable.

But, the map is also not ongoing updated.

(On the example I'm already outside of the Map. The funny thing is, that the text in the lower area is correct.  :D )

And on google I can not follow .gpx Tracks.

 :)

The app Lightr - Longer backlight can manage the ambient mode.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=us.instext.lightr">//https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=us.instext.lightr
There are 4 options in FREE version:
• Off - let system as default
• 10 seconds
• 30 seconds
• 1 minute

Works fine :)

This is the 6.5.7. which I tried already for several days (Orux recommended it in this thread) and matches my observations.

Big improvement compared with the 6.5.6.

Will try the new Beta 6.5.8. soon. :)

Ok, will try this. Thanks.  ;)

The backlight should be outdoor anyway automatically reduced to a minimum (mine is doing that) and therefore it has not necessarily switch to ambient mode to save battery.

The Sony 3 and the Moto 360 Sport have a reflective component in there display, so we don't need backlight.

Tried it, works fine.  :D

As a workaround for now ok.

I don't quite understand, this app Lightr increases backlight time right? So its useless for us who want less backlight time? Or am I missing something?

It just increases the time before the watch changes into ambient mode.

How much backlight is used, depends on the watch and mode.

My watch (Moto 360 Sport) has a light sensor in the lower part under the display (Flat Tire). When I'm outdoor and it's enough light (which is most of the time) it uses the reflective and not the backlight display, regardless wich mode.

Your Sony 3 also has an "ambient light sensors", I don't know if it only works in ambient mode or both mode.

Yeah mine has too, but i just use the lowest setting. So I don't care about that  :D.

Next test: WP on map

Waypoints are not displayed :(

A sequence of waypoints will nor be displayed as a route :(

The tablet shows the sequence of waypoints as a route :)

P2

The distance, ETE and bearing to the next WP is displayed :)

And automatically jumps to the next point :)

@ORUX

- Many waypoints are visible on the smartwatch

- A sequence of waypoints also

- SMS Button

I've got my sony smartwatch 3 finally  :P

Playing with it a bit, lovely so far.

Oruxmaps installed and connected to phone, tomorrow I'll try it outside.

Something I don't understand very well yet, when Oruxmaps is running and watch goes to screen off (is it what you call ambient mode?) after touching the screen I got back to watch face screen and need to go to app menu to open oruxmaps again. How can I go directly from sleep mode to oruxmap?

Thanks for all your previous and future posts

The "screen off" is not the "https://developer.android.com/design/wear/watchfaces.html#SpecialScreens">ambient mode".

On ambient mode the screen is still visible, but with less color or even a different screen is shown. e.g. Google Maps or watch faces.

Maybe you have to switch on the ambient mode? Have you set your display to "always on" in the settings of your watch or android wear app?

The problem that you have to start Orux on the watch every time you leave the application on the watch, I already mentioned and should be fixed.

That is true, would be better if there was a persistent notification on the watch-face while it was tracking or following a route. Good idea Tobsn I forgot you already mentioned that :). But now for me for example its also quite easy. I have "Wear Mini Launcher" installed and have Oruxmaps Beta as Favourite app, so I just swipe from top left of the watch and i get into the launcher and there I tap on the oruxmaps icon which I have always on the top. So I can quickly get into the app, and then out of it to conserve battery.

It is so quiet here :)

Begin of July I planning a MTB trip to the Pyrenäen and already prepared my Orux with maps and tracks. But i think the watch will stay at home.

As long as it can't display offline maps and the map navigation is more comfortable I relay on my Garmin at the handle bar and the phone with Orux in my backpack/pocket.

Hi!

thanks Tobsn for weak me up  :D

I have been testing my sony smartwatch with oruxmaps for a while.

Battery consumption is a problem, keeping screen on takes half of the battery in less than 3 hours.

What I did is to add a short cut in my watch face using Watchmaker app, so I switch watch screen off covering it with my hand and activate oruxmaps again just touching my shortcut. When activating screen it goes to the same oruxmaps point (P0, P1, ...) where I left, that's nice. The problem is some times it takes long time (a minute maximum) to refresh data from the phone, other times you get the data straight away. I don't use much maps in the watch, its nice to have the route for fast checking but to take a good decision in a crossroad I have to check phone maps, it could be great to have same maps in watch and phone. When switching screen off from map, I don't need to use that shortcut, just goes back to map again just touching screen.

Screens P0, P1, P2 are OK but could be better if customizable. In P1 I've got the figures I need to check fast when riding but I would appreciate to put another line of data maybe moving the oruxmaps logo to the right up corner.

When GPS is off in the phone, watch start track button doesn't work, it could be interesting (I don't know if possible) to activate phone GPS automatically when using that button.

Despite all the commented improvements to do, I am more than happy with SW3+oruxmaps.

Offline maps are displayed.

See track and see offline map  :!:

But my experience: No Map is better, Only the track i want to hike, ride. swim, walk, fly

Because a better contrast
