GENERAL / Re: Orux and 10Hz external GPS receivers

Hi Orux,

I've tested the 10hz option with a Garmin Glo2 and it works flawlessly ! Thank you for this.

I haven't noticed any major slowdowns or high battery usage (tested on a One+Nord N10 and Galaxy Tab S5e)

For bridge application i've used https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.clearevo.bluetooth_gnss&gl=RO - the recommended app from Garmin is missing from the store.

Now, you mentioned that you allowed only 5Hz. Is it possible to select 3-5-7-10Hz range ? For users who don't care about battery life or have short tracks ?
My regular competition track is 30-50km, done in 4-5hours - so a full battery with a powerbank is enough.

I've tested Glo2, works but I didn't see any significant improvement:
- map still updates/moves once per second. I was expecting that a 10Hz GPS receiver will update the map 10 times a second therefore my location will be updated more often. Maybe I'm missing
- bluetooth disconnects quite often - maybe it's the phone.

Any suggestions on how to update the map move often ?

GENERAL / Orux and 10Hz external GPS receivers

Hi,

Does anyone here uses Orux paired with a external gps like Garmin Glo 2 ?

I'm interested if the map/position is updated 10 times a second.

Also, any recommendations of external receivers that work with orux ?

I'm interested in this too... nowadays the phone/tablet storage and memory capacity has increased significantly over the last years.

Hi, and thank you for your reply.

I'm already using offline google maps but the download is limited for 1G , why ?

Hi,

I don't know if this was requested before  - I use paid Orux as main navigation in offroad competitions where only offline (Google Hybrid) maps are available and fast position update and accuracy make a difference.

Tracks are usually large loops (over 100km) and downloading the offline map to cover the loop results in gigabytes of tiles.

Is it possible to have a option that for a specific track/route to download ONLY the tiles that cover that track at all zoom levels, also the adjacent tiles (one tile extra in left and right side of the track)

Thank you,
Dan.

Thank you all for the suggestions, with this new version is much better with :
- move map instantly
- keep cursor on bottom

However , the map moves once a second - I wonder if a smooth map update can be achieved as in OSMAnd or GuruMaps (where the map smoothly moves keeping you in the center of it)

GENERAL / Using in offroad competitions

Hi,

I'm using Oruxmaps as the main navigation / follow track on offroad competitions.

My problem is that the screen update is slow (compared to Locus, for example). I'm going with 40-50km/h following a track and I have a huge lag when the map is updated.
For example, at a crossroad, I have to wait 5-6 seconds for the cursor to reach my "real" position. I use a Samsung Note9 .

How can I increase the position refresh ?
