Hi. Few days ago I tried the maps install link from OpenAndroMaps.org, OruxMaps started and completed, then it started installation but it never finished, and I've let it run ALL night long!

I must say that I was trying to install Alps, which is pretty huge (1G), but I have a rather good phone (Samsung GTI9300).

Is there any known limitation in this feature or should it gave completed successfully? Maybe a problem with free space? Thought I have several G available on the SD and the OruxMaps maps location is there?

Thanks

We had several reports of this in the OAM forums as well, but I can't reproduce it. So this isn't a singular issue, but the reason is not really known...

oh, ok....

anything which can be done to test/improve the situation? thanks

Some more information could help to get closer to the problem. I don't know if those are really the right questions, maybe Orux would have some more:

- Do smaller maps work?

- Do the downloads work, and only installation doesn't finish?

- Is at there enough memory available so that the map can be unzipped? (Orux, has this to be internal or external memory or does it depend on the map folder?)

- Is the mapsfolder on internal memory or external sd-card?

- If external sd-card, do you have Android 4.4 and no general writing rights on external SD? If yes, are you using a mapfolder in a different location than Android/data/com.orux.oruxmaps/files?

Hi,

There will be an inmediate error if the app tries to download to a non writable directory.

Could be a problem that the download or the unzip thread are stopped by android and not restart properly.

I'll do some research.

I'm running Android 4.4.4, have changed the "rights to write on SD" with NextApp SDfix, set my maps-path to /storage/extSdCard/TRAVEL/Orux/maps and the tracks-path to /storage/extSdCard/TRAVEL/GPX-Routes. All worked fine so far.

Now the download from inside OpenAndroMaps ist working, but at the end an error occured: "Fehler beim Herunterladen der Karte" which means "Error while loading the map".

First time while loading, Orux opens - no download, "install on OruxMaps again" opens the folder-structure" of Orux and the download happens - but at least with the "error while loading"

Thanks Norbert

PS: Orux - it's a great app!!!!

Hi Orux,

we've got some more problems with direct downloads at the German OpenAndroMaps forum:

So it is pretty common, especially with big maps. Maybe a progress bar would help a bit. Is OruxMaps using wakelocks while downloading/unzipping?

Best regards,

Tobias

Hi, Tobias;

Yes, the app uses a wakefulservice to download.

But may be it is not working fine in the google play version; please, tell people with problems to test the beta version.

A bug that I just have found is that if there is a folder in mapfiles/ folder with name 'temfolder', the map download will not work properly. This folder must be deleted previously.

I also has had that problem - after deleting the temp-folder it works fine.

One suggestion: If I tick on the download it stopped!? Would be better to open a window where I can follow the download or stop it.
