It appears that I am recording a track - there is a squiggly line with an arrow in the 'status bar' near the top left. If I look in the tracks list, select the track and try to delete it I get a message "Current track can not be deleted".

I've had this problem several times before and never managed to solve it. It causes immense frustration. On one occasion it recorded a track for two weeks before I noticed it - I wondered why my battery was running down faster than usual! Rebooting the phone did not help - it just continued to record the track when I switched it back on. Doh!

Other error messages I've had include one that says it can't delete an 'active track' so my question is how to either stop recording a track (if that's what's happening) or disable the track in some way so that I can delete it.

I know it sounds like a stupid question, but if anyone can help than it'd be much appreciated.

Hello!
You can stop recording the Track with the stop recording Track button (the same that you use for start recording the Track).

You can remove the current Track from the map: Left panel > Tracks/routes > clean Track.
If you start recording a new Track, then you can select continue the current or start a new one.

I tried tapping the 'record track' button (I assume I must have done that by accident to start recording the route) but it just asked if I want to Continue, start a New Segment, or start a New Track. There was no option to just stop and/or delete the active one.

What did work, however, was the 'Clean Track' option in the Tracks/Routes section. The track has now disappeared and so I am more than happy. Maybe the phone's battery life will improve as well...;-)

Many thanks for your speedy reply and for your help.  :)

You must distinguish when you are and are not recording the route.

Recording the tour: The record button appears as a solid colored square. An icon appears in the status bar of the app indicating that you are recording a Track. If you exit OruxMaps you will see a notification alerting you that the app is still working

Not recording a Track: The record button appears with a red circle inside it. If you close the app, there is no notification because the app is not recording or spending energy.

It is important to turn off the recording of a Track when you are not interested, so as not to waste energy!

On  my phone the 'record track' button appears as a black square with a black circle inside it, not a red one. If I press it to record a track it turns to a solid black square. I must have pressed it by mistake because it had been recording for about 10 days or more. I didn't know it was recording but I can see the start date and route stats. It had logged almost 200 km but most of this was a 'starburst' around where I live. I also noticed my battery was running down faster than usual. :(

When I discovered what was happening, I tried to stop it recording. Perhaps I succeeded but I was unable to delete the track. It said "Is this the active track?" on a red background and then it changed to another message something like "disable active track [follow in waypoint mode]" again on a red background. I'm not sure what that means.

I am still confused about the Tracks menu item that says "clean Track" and I wonder if it should be "clear Track" or, maybe better, "remove Track". Just a thought.

Thanks again for your help.
