Some tips about that problem. How to configure your android to allow an app could bypass power saving settings:

A test version that uses a different approach to tell android that the app wants to keep alive:

Go to global settings-->sensors-->GPS-->and check FUSED LOCATIONS PROVIDER.

The tips about disabling battery optimization do not appear to be the answer.  I have tried this on several nexus 5x and nexus 6p devices.  Disabling battery optimization solved the tracking problem in locus but not oruxmaps.  I use both as each have some features I like.   I'm not sure why oruxmaps is not able to keep tracking in the last few releases.

I have also tried adjusting the frequency of the GPS in the sensor settings but that does not appear to help either.

Oruxmaps is one of my most used apps and I applaud the work behind it.  Here's to hoping that the tracking issue is solved soon.

It's a bit frustrating to work on android with power saving settings!

After version 6.0, it seems to work on some phones and not on others. It's annoying!

I will downgrade the level of sdk, to see if in the latest version there are new things.

We will try several things.

Dear Orux,

first of all, many many thanks for your effort !

I tried the new beta yesterday, but it was closed again  :-((

Hello,

i will try as fast as possible....

thank you

Hi Orux,

i tried yesterday your latest version.

At first i really thought wow, it's working.

But after 3:58 hours it was killed.

I did another try and after 4:05 hours it was again killed.

So I can confirm that it seems to last a lot longer now, around 4 hours.

All other versions last betwen 20 minutes and 2 hours...

I will try this version again in the next days...

THX again for your effort...

Thanks;

What do you mean with 'killed'?

1.-The app stops recording the track, but restarts automatically when you turn on the display again.

2.-The app is killed, you have to start recording the track manually.

Do you have enabled that setting?-->global settings-->TTS/voice messages-->GPS failure alarm

I'm facing a similar problem while recording a track with the screen off using Mapsforge maps. It happens that GPS freeze and no more points are added to the track after more than an hour of successfull recording, V7.1.0 with an Alcatel 6045Y MM (6.0.1). This problem has never happened if the screen is on; but a long time ago while recording a track, the map freezed always in the same location, that problem was solved by performing a clear cache vectorial.

No battery optimization and full permisssions has Oruxmaps, i'll try latest rc version posted http://www.oruxmaps.com/foro/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4527#p11973">//http://www.oruxmaps.com/foro/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4527#p11973 and give feedback.

Is there any option to create a log of Oruxmaps without taking place a force close?

Hello Orux,

maybe i remember wrong, but the first time

i think i had to manually restart Orux and then it does the straight line.

The second time i was wondering, because wenn i opened my mobile,

Orux was closed but it started then automatically and does the straight line.

Now i enabled the GPS failure alarm. This seems to work, i will try that further these days...

best regards,

gmcl

I have tried the lastest version and it is still not able to keep tracking.   I am using a Nexus 6p running Android 8.   I have it set to not optimize oruxmaps.   It appears to track for a short time and then keeps recording the track but not tracking with the GPS.  So the time of the track is correct but instead of showing where I went, it draws straight lines connecting a few points.

Outdated: [After clearing caches of maps, both stable and beta versions work correctly, for screen on and off scenarios.

A bit odd but it seems to be the cache my issue, I use notification for lose of GPS satellites and battery no optimization.]

I have made a further test after a route of almost 4 hours, after 1 hour of recording the smartphone lost the GPS with data network enabled (my Idol 3 5.5 only has GPS and A-GPS as navigation systems) and recovered the conexion around 15 minutes later. It has nothing to do with OruxMaps because I used another app called GPS Status to test why i had lost the connection with the satellites. GPS Status showed 24 satellites in view but 0 in use, while OruxMaps showed 1 satellite in use, ¿what's happening, smartphone or satellites issue?

A friend of mine who has a BQ M5 with GPS+A-GPS+GLONASS randomly has the same problem, as a result both of us have a straigth line in our recording track while the connection was lost.

hi friends

i have same problems since 21 august.

evening 21 august i ended cicling trip, no problem, but after closing trip records begins a continous ring of the phone and searching of AIS connection.  i was not able to stop phone rInging because i did not know what is AIS.  Ringing stopped after deinstallation of an application, but after newly rebegin when open  3BMETEO that connects with GPS. I needed to eliminate even 3BMETEO.

Day after i run ORUSMAPS 6.5 and rebegins ringing and searching AIS connection. i needed to eliminate even ORUXMAP to solve. but using application GPS  WAS NOT FUNCTIONING, only initial point was correct, but ther was no trace and no record of trip.

seems every time i ask application using GPS, the phone engages a search for AIS connection.( without my asking).

now have downloaded ORUXMAPS 7.1.2, have no trouble for AIS searching, but have same problem of previous version: when ask run register screen presents correct position but during trip the screen remains Always blocked till stop register. no trace is recorded.

today i tried with another application RUNTASTIC, and had same trouble, all seems functions well but during trip GPS point is blocked at initial point and no trace on screen.

strange that 2 application with same trouble.....

Google maps seems function well.

my device is  SAMSUNG GALAXY J7 (2016)

with ANDROID  6.0.1  version MMB29K.J710FXXU3AQF8

ORUXMAPS 7.1.2  and ORUXMAPS 6,5

already deactivated  energy saving

probably (but not sure) i received information to upgrade ANDROID of my phone. may be trouble begin after the upgrade?

sergiot

problem solved on my galaxy j7

after demonstration that Android setting for GPS was ok and the best, but there was no GPS signal.

Compared with an old Samsung GT 1900  that was seeing perfectly GPS signals.

on galaxy j7 i open "SETTING"

open BACKUP AND REFRESH

run   REFRESH ALL SETTINGS to predefined values.

immediatly returned gps signal caption, and ORUXMAPS and other apk run perfectly.

congratulation to ORUX for the apk very good.

ciao
