Hi orux,

I would like to ask for two new shortcut-buttons for the buttons-bar. Both are related with the gradient of the active route.

The first button should give the possibility for a quick change between dashboard with and without altidude graph. The altidude graph-feature is very helpfull in hilly areas, but it takes quite some room from the map. I like to look at it from time to time. But most of the time I don't need it and prefer more room for the map. So a quick change would be desirable.

The second button is related. It should be for a qick change between "colored path with slope" active or not active. The colored version is helpful to get an idea about oncoming gradients. But it has the disadvantage, that the viewability of the path on a colored map is reduced. Therefore I usually prefer a blue dashed path, what is very good visible on the map. A possibility for a quick change between the two options would be nice.

GENERAL / How to update from 7.0.2 to 7.0.5 ?
March 24, 2017, 05:11:44 PM
I have Oruxpmaps v. 7.0.2 (german version) on my Samsung Galaxy S7 (Android 7.0).

How do I manage to update to Oruxmaps v. 7.0.5 (german version) without loosing my data and adjustments?

Or will this happen automatically without necessity that I start the procedure manually?

I checked the adjustments-menue but could'nt find anything about updates.

Thanks

GENERAL / System settings for display via oruxmaps
December 21, 2016, 02:43:44 PM
Dear orux,

before I use oruxmaps for navigation on my bike, I used to make three preliminarily adjustmens for trouble-free function:

1. the display should stay ALLWAYS ON

2. the display should allways be on MAXIMUM BRIGHTNESS to improve visability in the sun

3. the display should be fixed in PORTRAIT-MODE

I accomlished this with the app "app config". The app allows to preset different settings for a specific app. That means, when "app config" is opened, before oruxmaps is started, all in "app config" programmed special settings for oruxmaps will be in function. This prevents you from establishing all the needed settings manually. And from withdrawing them, after leaving oruxmaps. Just close "app config" and it is done.

This worked very well until now. Recently I bought a new Phone: Samsung Galaxy S7 with Android 6.0.1. Unfortunately "app config" is not working any more on my new phone. And I couldn't find an alternative app, that provides the same functionality.

I searched in the oruxmaps-settings and found, that at least point 3 (fixing portrait-mode) is covered. Point 1 (display allways on) is only available for track-recording. And point 2 (brightness) is only available, when "display allways on" is activated and therefore indirectly is also limited to track-recording.

My proposal: It would be nice to have the option to controll points 1 (display allways on) and 2 (display brightness) via oruxmaps-settings generally and not only for track-recording. And for the display brightness it would be even better, when the brightness could be set to aspecific value and not only to maximum. This is, because I found out, that the Galaxy S7 provides a VERY bright display when set to maximum. Much brighter, then my old phone. So maximum-brightness might be not necessary ore even undesirable for cloudy days or using oruxmaps indoors. The best thing would be a button, to quickly switch between two or three presetted brightness-settings.

Many wishes. I know. But is'nt it christmas time ? ;-)

Thank You once more for Your lovely programm.

With best regards

I am using OruxMaps v.6.0.10. Couldn't find a menue-point to adjust the waypoint-limit. Dont want to play with beta.

I tried to cut waypoints from the gpx-file and thisway experimentally created continuous several smaller files. Eventually OruxMaps started to display a correct route, when number of waypoints decreased. I couldn't find an exact number of waypoints or size of file, from what on OruxMaps shows the route correctly, but I assume problems disappeared reliable, when number of waypoints resp. file size was about one third from the original size, what would be about 6000 waypoints or 700 kb file-size. This is on Samsung Galaxy S2 with Android 4.1.2.

The problem for me is not, that OruxMaps has a limit for the number of waypoints. I assume, this is inevitable. The problem is, that OruxMaps loads the gpx-file and displays it on screen without warning You, that waypoints have been deleted and that therefore the route shown on screen in parts is corrupted. Maybe such a warning could be implemented in this otherwise super-program.

Hy folks!

May question: is there a maximum for waypoints, that OruxMaps can handle?

I have a pretty big route with 16.800 waypoints. On may PC, using RouteConverter, the route shows up perfect. In OruxMaps the route shows up, but somehow corrupted. It seems, that OruxMaps surpressed a lot of waypoints. The route is no more suitable for exact navigation. Is it possible, that OruxMaps has an upper limit for waypoints and simply cut waypoints, if a route has to many of them? And if it is this way: what is the upper limit for waypoints in a specific route?

Hi Orux,

thank You very much for introducing the map-orientation-button.

Really appreciate that.

Hi everyone,

I loaded some gpx-files from the internet and copied them in the oruxmaps tracklogs folder. I can open these files and navigate with them. But they show a lot of red waypoints. At many sections these red waypoints are that numerous, that the appear overlapping and it is nearly impossible, to see the red arrow, that indicates the actual GPS-position. I do not have this problem with in oruxmaps self created gpx-files. They show only the blue route and no red waypoints. How can I remove these red waypoints from the imported gpx-files?

Thanks for help.

Dear Orux,

last year I made the proposal of implementing a button for quick switching between different map-orientations. The reason was, that using OruxMaps as a navi it often is necessary to switch between "map is orentated in direction of driving" an "map is orentated north". Some others voted with +1. Do we have a chance to get this button? Please .....

Sincerely

George
