Title: New beta version 8.5.x [CLOSED]
Post by: orux on October 21, 2021, 01:08:06 PM
Hello!
PLEASE! READ CAREFULLY NEXT INFORMATION BEFORE INSTALLING THE NEW BETA, BECAUSE IT INCLUDES THE NEW RESTRICTIONS TO THE DEVICE INTERNAL STORAGE.

The new beta can be used in the following ways:

a) If you have a previous beta installed (you do an update). Then two options will be possible:

a.1) do not migrate at all the data to the private storage of the app. Everything continues as before. But at the time of uninstalling and reinstalling, you will be in option b).

a.2) migrate the data. It is a difficult process, but it must work. The current app data (maps, tracks databases,...) is copied in the private folder of the app (it can be in the SD if an SD is used in addition to the internal storage). IMPORTANT: The old data (folders and files) in the internal storage/SD are NOT erased, to continue using them with other versions. If the user wants, he could delete them. Obviously the app no longer shares data with other versions of the app. The Tracks database is its own. Tracks recorded in the beta version will not be seen in the list of Tracks in the GP version, for example.

b) If you do not have a previous beta installed, the app will use the private storage, yes or yes, by obligation (Android no longer allows apps to access the root of the internal storage, where previous versions of the app usually store all the app information). In this case the app offers two tools in global configuration -> app storage to move/import files from/to the app:

It is stupid, but that file browser does not allow to copy entire folders! Here you can find file browsers that can do that work friendly (Working at this moment, I don't know if in a future they will be able to do that, if they compile the app with last SDK; I recommend 'Explorer' app): https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/j3zgmm/managing_files_in_the_androiddata_folder_on/ (https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/j3zgmm/managing_files_in_the_androiddata_folder_on/)

RC3:
-->some bugs corrected

RC2:
-->some bugs corrected

RC1:
-->removed old libraries.
-->no more changes till the next release.

beta31:full support to RTL languages
changes in map calibration tool
added new information to statistics, distance ascending/descending.

beta28:-->last experiment!
Added more values to the Track statistics: Distance ascending/descending.
Georeference an image (png, jpg, pdf or tif supported). Map tools-->Image to Map.
First you have to load the image, then you have to add calibration points (four at least, recomended more). You have to select a point in the image, then that point in the map, and so on.
Then, when you select OK button, a new offline map will be created.
With that map, you can load it as a normal offline map, or as a map overlay over another map (Map overlays-->Map as overlay, the map is reprojected based on the base map).

beta26:
-->some bugs corrected
-->support to kml/kmz groundoverlay tags, loaded as map overlays, some examples:
https://oruxmaps.org/etna.kml (https://oruxmaps.org/etna.kml) (37.69 N, 15.03 E)
https://oruxmaps.org/mt_rainier.kmz (https://oruxmaps.org/mt_rainier.kmz) (46.95 N, 121.97 W)
tap the ground overlay to change transparency.

beta25:
-->slight modifications in getfeaureinfo queries in WMS: added button for this function, which allows querying any of the WMS that you have. To use the WMS query with the 'long press' you now have to select the WMS you want to use in configuration-->maps-->select WMS for query.

beta23:
--last minute bug solved

beta22:
--mapsforge maps library update to 0.17 version
--calculate a route in Brouter starting from an own route. In the properties of your Tracks, a new button, 'Match in brouter' will search for a matching route in brouter. Waypoints will be added with turn information, and surface type data,...
--added the option to query the GetFeatureInfo option of a WMS, with two options:
a) long press on the map-->what's here.
b) when creating Waypoints, new option at the end, to add that information in the Waypoint description.
To select a WMS that is consulted when creating a Waypoint or with the long press option: side panel, maps-->Select GetFeatureInfo WMS. Or in the top action bar-->maps-->map settings-->Select GetFeatureInfo WMS

Examples of useful WMS (in Spain, the cadastre or the altitude WMS): https://www.idee.es/segun-tipo-de-servicio (https://www.idee.es/segun-tipo-de-servicio)

beta21:
--added a new feature: Group waypoints if they overlap. It works with waypoints that belong to overlays or the loaded routes. You can disable that option (on by default) in waypoints menus, or in the settings-->user interface-->tracks/routes/lines...

beta20:
--some bugs corrected

beta18:
--added more tools to track segments list.
--changes in how the app paints the routes when it has many segments (in paint slope mode).
--some bugs corrected (maybe new ones were added...)

beta16:
--changes with proj4j libraries. Check if all is right about coordinates, grids,...
--added range selection in waypoints/tracks lists.
--added massive track modification.

beta15:
--->added support for files in geojson format (tracks, polygons,...)
--->new storage options (test these options carefully. Mass data movements are complex):
--added a secondary directory for maps. In this way you can have maps in the internal storage and in an external SD simultaneously.
--if you are using private storage (Android scoped storage) you can change the SD/internal storage directories independently for each resources files (DEM files, photos,...).
--added option to export all app files when using Android scoped storage to a folder on the phone's shared storage. This way everything can be recovered if the app is uninstalled/installed again from that directory.

beta14:
--solved some bugs,

beta12:
--added no-go points to brouter search engine,
--solved some bugs,

beta11:
--solved some bugs,

beta10:
--edit the properties (name, description, color, fill, ...) of each segment of a Track (new button in the properties display of a Track recorded with the app, or imported to the tracks database).

(https://i.ibb.co/yns1NxG/Screenshot-20211230-071954.jpg) (https://ibb.co/RpHmgJZ)

--new wizards.

(https://i.ibb.co/rkCZChf/Screenshot-20211230-072040.jpg) (https://ibb.co/31D0DbY)

--routes searched with brouter, added the option to include data of road type, surface, etc. Once you have searched for a route with brouter, click on the track, then statistics button.

(https://i.ibb.co/m8yvd3Y/Screenshot-20211230-071855.jpg) (https://ibb.co/WtzD7Ld)

--new sensor, network status. Now you can save the state of the network (if there is telephone coverage) when saving a Track, very interesting during mountain tours, or in areas with low coverage. To always save it by default, configuration - tracks -> add network status. Or when starting the recording of a Track, sensors -> start network status.

--new menus when pressing a Track. You can individually select how to display the Track:
-> slopes
-> default color
-> type of surface (only routes searched with brouter)
-> network coverage (only if the data for that sensor has been saved).

(https://i.ibb.co/bsjTsP3/Screenshot-20211230-071844.jpg) (https://ibb.co/Mcyrcsh)

beta9:
-->changed somne icons
-->added (long press the map) an option to search images in WikiMedia databases.

beta8:
-->added icons to mapsforge searchs (some categories)
-->solved some bugs with photo waypoints.

beta7:
-->load geotagged pictures as a overlay, with thumbnails. Map overlay

When the beta app is installed as an update, first you will see:

(https://i.ibb.co/8dSFVMv/Screenshot-20211021-131020.jpg) (https://ibb.co/9VCRjnK)

Although you see 'migrate' as unique option, in next screen is when you can select skip that migration:

Hello,
I have installed the new beta (OruxMaps8.5.5beta1) over an old beta (OruxMaps8.5.3beta8).
I choose to migrate.
It seems to work but impossible to see the folder trough the Android Explorer (SCard\Android\data\com.orux.oruxmapsbeta\files).
I have installed Explorer version 3.10.3. I'm not sure to know how to use it. Some body can help me?

Regards.

Hello,

I tried "X-plore File Manager", it seems to work.
The link to Google Playstore:

Regards.

PS: In fact this software is very powerful!
I can view and manage my files in the famous folder:

Android\data\com.orux.oruxmapsbeta\files

Regards.

Hello,
With this version (OruxMaps8.5.5beta1) when I want to launch Gpstest by clicking the button on the left side bar Playstore pop-up :

(https://mini.ouplo.com/15/2a/mSUR.jpg) (https://full.ouplo.com/15/2a/mSUR.jpg)

Gpstest is already installed.
This "bug" was not present in the previous version.
This problem occurs even if Gpstest is running.
Am I alone to have this problem?
Regards.

The beta1 on Pixel 4a, Android 12, close if check "GPS on".
Now the beta1 cancel after a few seconds.
Reinstall don't work. The beta1 close.
Deinstall and install works till check "GPS on".

Hello,
I have slow rendering with OpenAndroMaps. 10 seconds at least after I choose the theme.
Result is the same with "Elevate" and "Elements". It's faster with "Default Mapsforge Theme" (2 seconds).
I tried it several months ago. I don't remember that it was so long...
Any idea?

Don't you have the option "Apply hill shadows" selected ?
It could explain slow rendering...

Hello,
If you are talking about options in "Global settings/Maps" and "Global settings/Maps/Mapforge settings" the answer is no, the option is turned off.
When I turn it on it's longer.

Thanks for your answer LaurentG!
I have still the problem 😕

Anybody can tell me if the rendering is as fast as usual with this new beta version 8.5.5beta1 of OM?

Regards.

I was talking about the first one (in "Global settings/Maps"), for which I have even set a button on screen.
On the other hand, I never use the second (specific to Mapsforge) that doesn't work very well and has some bugs, at least in rev 7.4.24

Unable to give you an answer about beta version, since I do not have installed it.

I have installed the new beta version 8.5.5 beta1 of OM on another Smartphone (Armor X8 Ulefone - less powerfull than my Samsung A71).
I don't have the low rendering issue with OpenAndroMaps.
Ulefone Armor X8 runs on Android 10 ==> all files are stored in SD_Card\Oruxmaps\Mapfiles
Samsung A71 runs on Android 11 ==> all files are stored in SD_Card\Android\data\com.orux.oruxmapsbeta\files\oruxmaps\mapfiles
Perhaps the problem comes from this difference?

Any idea?

Check that you don't have selected hillshadows.
The speed of access to the SD is also important, the maps require many reading operations, the SD is not the same as the internal memory, neither is one SD the same as another, or the data interface that each phone has with the memory/SD.

@orux:
No Hill-shadows option turned On.

You are right. When I work with files on the internal memory the speed increase. Good thing!
Perhaps I have to buy a more performant microSD card?...
For now I have a Sandisk Ultra128 GB with reading speed at 120 MB/sec. And it's true, when I have copied the folder "Mapstyles" (very lot of files inside) it was very long...
I'm talking about these files:

(https://mini.ouplo.com/15/2c/qWm5.jpg) (https://full.ouplo.com/15/2c/qWm5.jpg)

@all:
What kind of micro SD card do you use?

don't waste your time or spend your money searching for microsd cards having more speed. This is not real.

if you visit "notebookcheck.com" web pages, you can found very detail reviews for smartphones devices. if we collect those reviews for a long time, we can see that low prices models have 20-40MB speeds and flagships has 60-80MB for the microsd cards. Why that ? because internal hardware specs has limit up at UHS-I (this has theoretically 100MB/s, practical less)

for the internal memory (flash or ROM - names) the low budget devices start from 200MB and the high price flagship models has up to 1800MB Read and 800MB Write

Hi Orux,
I always thank you for everything you do to improve your wonderful app every day!
I have 4 ideas to submit to you:
1) MAPSFORGE. I often use different Mapsforge styles. Each style has its own symbols and colors, and especially for the description of the streets it is not easy to interpret them. Would it be a good idea for you to add a legend for each style to the menu where the styles are selected so that you can quickly know the meaning of a symbol or a color on the map?
2) TWO FINGER MESUREMENT.  I often use the convenient function to measure distance with two fingers. However, the command window at the bottom is too large and takes up a lot of screen space. Would it be a good idea for you to position the different controls differently so as to draw it smaller? Or make it disappear for as long as the two fingers touch the screen and make it disappear when the fingers are detached?
3) PROFLE & CONTEXT. I often use Orxmaps in different contexts: car, hiking, bicycle. Each different context requires different settings. Would it be a good idea for you to insert all the different settings into the various profiles so that you can create a personal profile for each different context of use?
4) STATISTICS WINDOWS. I often use the track statistics window. Would it be a good idea for you to allow the user to choose which data, and where, to display in the trak statistics window?

Hi orux,

it looks like the DEM based maps issue is not fully resolved, there were two bug here:

- the same tile was repeated again and again

- when switching to another DEM based map it was not showing.

I didn't mention the second one because I was thinking that they were somehow related but it doesn't seem to be the case. When displaying a DEM based map, shifting to another DEM based one, tiles from the previous map remain on the screen. See attachment to understand what I mean.

Hello!

The current app data (maps, tracks databases,...) is copied in the private folder of the app (it can be in the SD if an SD is used in addition to the internal storage). IMPORTANT: The old data (folders and files) in the internal storage/SD are NOT erased, to continue using them with other versions. If the user wants, he could delete them. b) If you do not have a previous beta installed, the app will use the private storage, yes or yes, by obligation (Android no longer allows apps to access the root of the internal storage, where previous versions of the app usually store all the app information). In this case the app offers two tools in global configuration -> app storage to move/import files from/to the app:

  • -> Import resources: With this tool you can tell the app resources (by type, map, tracks, ...) that can be copied to the app private folders.
  • -> Open Android File Manager: With this tool the app opens the Android file browser, inside the private folders of the app, to allow you to copy files from the private folders of the app to another directory of your device. For example, if you are going to uninstall the app, in this way you can copy things before Android deletes all the app folders (remember that Android deletes all the app files in private folders when you uninstall an app !!).
It is stupid, but that file browser does not allow to copy entire folders! Here you can find file browsers that can do that work friendly (Working at this moment, I don't know if in a future they will be able to do that, if they compile the app with last SDK; I recommend 'Explorer' app): https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/j3zgmm/managing_files_in_the_androiddata_folder_on/ (https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/j3zgmm/managing_files_in_the_androiddata_folder_on/)

ok, gpx with more than one <trk> are now splitted in orux tracklog-database, but I mean loading a track from a folder (like the download-folder). In this case I get only the first <trk> onto the map. The work-around with saving first the gpx from the folder into the database, then loading the splitted tracks from the database is a bit complicated.
Would be nice to get all the <trk>, when loading gpx from a folder as it was in earlier versions. No need to copy the gpx first to the database (neither manually nor automatically).

Thanks a lot, notbru

Hello,
When I import  a GPX file into the database the new entry have a strange name. For example "Track_1639850099214".
Before, the new entry had the same name that the  file name:
File name = "2021-12-18 135043.gpx" gave an entry called "2021-12-18 135043".
Is it possible to have this function again?

-->Android 30 SDK storage limitations.
Hi Orux,
I've tested scoped storage with an Android 11 device.
As I can only choose internal OR external private folder right now, are these the only options with scoped storage - or would it be possible to set some folders like maps to external, and tracks to internal?
Wouldn't it be possible to have huge files (maps, DEM) in the "download" folder that still should be available to all apps? Even read only would be fine if you manage it with a different app.

Hello!
With the new filesystem sometimes the app does not know the name of the file. That name is only used when the track itself has no name (within the GPX). I review it.

Hello!

It complicates the system a bit, but I could review it (select later individually if some resources are wanted in the external/internal folders).

My initial idea was to use a folder within Downloads/ for maps and other resources, but you cannot grant permission to an app to access a folder within Downloads, only individual files. Apps can access the files they create in Downloads, but not the others. And if you uninstall and reinstall the app, you lose access to the files created. The new file access system is a bit complex. Everything that is outside the private folders has a lot of complexity to access the files in an ordinary way (low-level access, necessary with databases,...).

That's too bad, would have been too easy ;-)
What's also important in this context would be a possibility to backup the track database and app settings without too much hassle. I used to have a nice solution to sync the internal & external SD to my NAS, but not that's not possible with the sync app for the android folder. I can use an explorer app and copy manually, but this is no good strategy. So maybe a backup function in OruxMaps would make sense (cloud, smb, whatever), especially when all data can be lost by uninstall.

Locus already has an update with scoped storage, and of course the same problems. Here are some interesting findings by my fellow OpenAndroMaps colleague Michael in one of the comments here https://www.locusmap.app/de/android-11-bringt-eine-wichtige-aenderung-fuer-locus-verzeichnisse/ (https://www.locusmap.app/de/android-11-bringt-eine-wichtige-aenderung-fuer-locus-verzeichnisse/):
QuoteMichal,
the number of different map types is pretty much irrelevant.
You have to differentiate mainly two dimensions:
- the requirement profile of the various Locus files
- the access methods available for different locations of Android 11

Requirements:
- log files and alike - sequential write (and pot. read)
- themes - handling huge number of small files (the graphics) in a performant way
- track and POI DBs - random and fast access, safe storage
- map files - fast random access - and this is the same for Mapsforge 3 and 4 and 5
- SRTM - pot. many files in the folder, I do not know how access works (sequential or random)

Assessment of access methods for those categories:
- log file and alike - business as usual, no hassle
- themes - performance mess on ext SD -> separate the themes folder from the mapsVector location (trivial exercise) and put themes on int SD ALWAYS; or deal with the zip version instead (c:geo and Cruiser are doing such and have no performance problem)
- track and POI DBs - similar as themes - int SD is the best location
- map files - private folder on ext SD seems to be tricky; latest tests bei Willi and Wolfgang showed that /Android/media is a better place; again, c:geo and Cruiser can handle this location efficiently. Also, this allows multiple usage of the same maps (raster and vector) by different apps. In addition, file managers can read/write to /Android/media, even on ext SD.

I think it is obvious what nees to be done - and this will bring benefits for Locus functions, and peace and happiness into the user community.

Good luck and cheers
Michael

Hello Orux,
I recognized some problems with beta 10:

- max/min icons for altitude are not displayed neither for a route created with brouter nor one created by hand, although the fuction is activated in tracks/routes settings (I don't know if max/min speed icons are shown as i didn't record a track)

- The screenshots for the surface and road type look great, also the possibility to display the surface type of a route on the map ... but it doesn't work for me. In the route statistics nothing concerning surface or type is shown and on the map the route is displayed in blue independent of the surface. Is there anything I have to activate in Oruxmaps or the Brouter app? I couldn't find anything.

Hello!
Install the last brouter apk from here: http://brouter.de/brouter_bin/ it seems that the google play version is not the last one.
About the max/min icons, they arte removed from the broute route because now the route created contains a lot of segments, and each segment has max/min icons. I will check the problem with routes created by hand.

Hello Orux,
i tried both the PlayStore version and the version from brouter.de with the latest rd5-files on MIUI 11/Android 7 and MIUI 12/Android 10. No surface or road type on both phones.
You wrote "routes searched with brouter, added the option to include data of road type, surface, etc." Did I miss any option to check in the settings?

The routes brouter creates via 'search route' consist of only one segment - on both phones with both brouter versions?!?

Thank you very much the no-go points feature worked great, and
(https://i.ibb.co/kMYJZ89/image.png)

the graphhopper works great again, and currently there is a simple problem that occurs when you change the interface of the program to Arabic and then try to download the DEM files, and this problem I think is due to the Arabic-Indian numbers(٠,١,٢,٣,٤,٥,٦,٧,٨,٩), and the problem disappears if the language of the program interface is changed to English and the DEM files are downloaded correctly:

Is it possible to draw a circle to show the no-go zone ?

When a no-go is set, it is possible to set weird path like show in attached image.

Thank's, Franck.

Hello Orux,
I found an issue with the new road types/surfaces feature:
When you create a route with Brouter and extend it by hand, OruxMaps crashes when you click on the track and open the statistics.

And one question:
When I use the Brouter profile 'shortest.brf' (which is the standard profile for foot shortest/fastest) I get information about the track type but not about the surface - it's all unclassified, although the surface information exists in the OSM database and is shown with other profiles. Is this an Oruxmaps issue or does this behavior depend on the profile?

Regards

Hello!
Yes, I will add a circle aroud the no-go points.
About they behaviour when you select points inside a no-go zone, it is not clear what brouter sends as a route,...

Hello!
Thanks,

you are right, about the bug.
About the shortest profile, I can see information about surface in my searches. You can see the information that the app receives from brouter (in the way 'highway=track surface=alphalt...') in the segment description, when you tap the segment,

Hi Orux,
I've tested scoped storage with an Android 11 device.
Regards,
Tobias

Hello!

It complicates the system a bit, but I could review it (select later individually if some resources are wanted in the external/internal folders).

Any progress here? The latest beta still doesn't allow e.g. having mapsforge themes internal and maps external. This causes themes to be very slow, e.g. when switching themes it's instant internal and takes about 10s external, with a very recent Samsung A52s and A11. Might be slower on different devices.
It makes sense to have themes with little memory usage internal, and maps or dem data on external SD, so it would be great to have options here.

Locus already had the release of the scoped storage version on playstore, and there were many problems for users with this. Further solutions for this app was using zipped themes (and unpacking them for the app internal) and allowing to use android/media on internal and external.

Also adding more backup options would be great, as backup programs can't access the OruxMaps folders anymore - at least adding other files to the Drive backup, like profiles and pictures, and probably others as well.

Hello!
I am working with that stuff.
About the problems of other apps. I imagined this was going to happen. That is why I am waiting for a better solution, which will surely not be a good one at all.

Android/media/ folder is not a solution, because that folder is deprecated in SDK 30. Before long we will have another problem with another data migration...

The only solution seems private storage.

Yes, you will be able to select what goes on the internal and what goes on the SD,s. Although the simplest thing is to put maps and DEM,s on the external, and the rest on the internal, few files have a significant size.

Hello Orux,
I tried it again on MIUI 11/Android 7 and MIUI 12/Android 10 (on this phone with a clean install of Oruxmaps beta 14 and Brouter from the website and from Playstore). On both phones there was no information on the surface both in the segment description and the statistics with Brouter's shortest profile. The other profiles work perfectly.

Hello Orux,
just a thought on the colours for the different surfaces:
Now similar surfaces (e.g. pebblestone, gravel, fine gravel) have very different colours. Maybe it is easier to remember the colours and to recognize the character of a route with groups of similar surfaces each represented by one colour in different shades, e.g.
pebblestone - dark blue
gravel - medium blue
fine gravel - light blue
or
red tones for cobblestone/paving stones/concrete/asphalt ...
Maybe the rougher surfaces could have darker colours than smoother ones.

I really like the option to show the surfaces as it makes it easier to plan routes with buggies, wheelchairs ...

I used button Photo Waypoint and created jpg in Pictures directory. It's OK. But when I connect my phone to PC by USB-port  PC explorer demonstrate empty directory(oruxmaps/pictures).
If I copy my jpg-file to another directory, download for example and connect to PC jpg-file become visible in this directory.
By the way, I believe it's more suitable if after snapshot I can stay  in camera program and make other photo

I import it in my database successfully.

You could back up your data base and erase it on Oruxmaps and try to import your gox file in this brand new database.

Hello Orux,

I would like to know if it's possible for you to make a little change in the way the name is created during the import of a GPX file in the database.
My initial post is « Reply #69 on: January 15, 2022, 10:04:37 AM ».
I made a mistake in my previous demand. Sorry for that.
For the moment:
File name = "2021-12-18 135043.gpx" gave an entry called "2021-12-18 135043". This is not the same way that Oruxmaps itself create the entries in the database.
If you can make the change:
File name = "2021-12-18 135043.gpx" should give an entry called "2021-12-18 13:50:43". The modification consist to add 2 separators in the time numbers.

Sorry to bother you.

Regards.

hello orux, your comment about the file manager gave me the cause of my problem.
All my route.gpx are in Dropbox so I can see them on my phone, PC and tablet.
In the past, by selecting a file here, Oruxmaps opened directly with the route. This now gives the error.
By using the ASTRO file manager I can load all routes again.
Will it be possible again in the future to open a file directly from Dropbox?

I use the Beta version because of the SOS function via SMS.
Thanks for the great program.

Thanks for that!

I tested it with the following observations:

- As I had a previous installed beta on Android 11 with all scoped storage files set to external SD, after installing beta 15 and changing specific directories there were some issues - files of theme folders were copied to internal SD, not moved; and then the theme on the external SD was used (long time to switch themes), not the internal; seems like the general setting to use external SD from previous beta was still there (and can't be changed anymore), and external themes were prefered; after uninstalling the beta everything worked.
- Export all app files is fine, but they can't be restored; I tried "restore an old installation" and nothing was restored
- It would be gread to be able to select which kind of files should be exported; e.g. I would like to export profiles and tracks, but not themes and maps
- It would make sense now with limited/no access to the private directories to delete e.g. themes in OruxMaps

Best regards,
Tobias

The mapsforge theme was stored as an absolute path. I have to change it. With last beta if you load another theme then it should be from the new directory (internal storage after your changes).

It would be to be able to select a block of tracks by choosing the first one, the last one, and then to chose all the files in this range.

Hello Orux,
really great new features in beta 16!

However after a while of testing with beta 15 and 16, I found some problems in the new route statistics (slope, surface, type ...).
The colouring of slopes differs significantly from the one of former versions and is definetly wrong (local knowledge & measuring tool in oruxmaps).
Picture 1: om 8.5.5 beta 16 - original route from brouter (see pink circle: slope 0 % according to colour)
Picture 2: om 8.5.5 beta 16 - with joined segments (correct colouring: slope ca. 8 % according to measuring tool and calculation from altitude difference)
Joining the segments is easily done within Oruxmaps but then the information about the surface, type etc. is lost.
Title: Re: New beta version 8.5.x
Post by: Lenz on February 04, 2022, 12:36:57 AM
Another problem of the segmentation of a route comes up when you do a correction of the altitude with dem files. Every segment gets a max and min altitude symbol, which is quite confusing. Maybe it is possible to create an option for showing  max/min symbols per segment or for the whole route.
By the way: altitude correction does not have an effect on the wrong colouring of slopes - the only solution is joining the segments.

Thanks for adding massive track modification awesome feature.

Also as Lenz was saying I noticed the slope coloring was off too, for example this area is basically flat, but it was showing red, you can see it starts off blue, then just changes red, maybe my phone had bad gps lock or something since I was just starting out or a glitch, but I noticed it along the whole route where colors seemed off, under GPS settings I have "Smooth the altitude" enabled, all other boxes are unchecked.

btw is there a feature to blacklist an area for example don't record the track until out of the marked area or bounding box, I usually record a track from my house so I can never share the gpx since it shows where I live, or I have to go in and edit the track to remove the start / finish not a big issue but would come in handy.

When recording a track would it be possible to show the color slope on the fly instead of the normal red line?

Thanks for this great program.

Hello Orux!
The slope coloring and the max/min height symbols work great! Thanks a lot.

There is only one problem with the segmented track in the route statistics: the list of the sections doesn't start at 0,00 and it jumps back to wrong values (maybe when a new segment starts). See attached image. When the segments are joined, everything is OK.

I also like the circle around a no go point. But it doesn't show the real radius, respectively the radius changes when you zoom in or out.

Thank you for this great app!

Title: Re: New beta version 8.5.x
Post by: Lenz on February 14, 2022, 01:36:07 PM
Hello,

@YvanCB:
You can set no-go points to tell brouter to avoid certain areas when planning a route (e.g. construction sites, restricted areas, the house of your mother-in-law ...). The no-go radius defines the size of this area around the point you create by touching the button with the brick wall. In beta 20 the size of the no-go area is visualize by a gray circle with the no-go radius.

@Orux
Thank you for fixing the bugs with the sections list and the no-go circle so quickly!

But I can't record tracks because app working in the background and its addition to not optimize apps are exclusive!

Hello!
They are independent settings.

The app can be 'not optimized' (battery related) and you can allow it to access location in the background.

In fact, to record only the latter is necessary. You can leave the app as optimized (with the risk that Android stops it at some point) and record your routes, if you give permission to access location in the background. You will only see a notice that warns you that it is better 'not optimized'.

Not sure why you say that both are exclusive.

1. during at first run the option to install the working folder at location /storage/emulated/0/android/data/
just like the android 11 users
2. inside the settings the same option for later to move the working folder of orux - all with one click

both options for internal memory or sd card

In fact, to record only the latter is necessary. You can leave the app as optimized (with the risk that Android stops it at some point) and record your routes, if you give permission to access location in the background. You will only see a notice that warns you that it is better 'not optimized'.

Not sure why you say that both are exclusive.

orux

Hi Orux, your clear words have allowed me to solve the problem!! Thanks ;D
My right setting are:

So I get a notice that warns that it is better 'not optimized', but I ignore it and app records my
route perfectly!  ;D

Perhaps it might be useful to rember this setting in a welcome screen or in the configuration screens.

Thank you very much for your great work and your Kindess!

Hello,

I tried the beta (8.5.5 beta 21) just to know if the migration will be smooth and to try all the other features.
Everything fine for the migration to the android/data folder.  I have access to that folder with the solid explorer app .., so... no biggie.

I have both oruxmaps GP (pointing to the classic oruxmaps folder) and the beta.    My phone is a xiaomi MI 11 lite with android 12

I noticed that when opening the beta the maps is not showing up immediately like in the GP version. (first screenshot) but shows up only with a little pinch or zoom on the map. (screenshot 2)

The map is Openandromaps - Italy (2.28 GB)

v8.5.5beta15
When I start Oruxmaps by selecting a .gps file Oruxmaps start correctly but there is an error "error loading route" and there is no route.
(In "v.8.5.5 GP" Oruxmaps starts correctly and the route is there and loaded correctly.)

I have the same error with the beta since a couple of releases.
I can open a saved gpx without a problem.
But I often used bikerouter.de to create a route and than used the export function with QR code generator wich creates  a download link to the gpx file. I I download and open this file, I get "could not load route". But:
If I open the created link again in the Webbrowser , the route is loaded!
Would be cool, I this would be sorted out. Thanks in advance

Hello,
I'm looking for a way to manage the number of "Distance Indicators" along a path.

(https://mini.ouplo.com/16/c/QQ21.jpg) (https://full.ouplo.com/16/c/QQ21.jpg)

I know it's depending of the zoom but sometimes there not enough "Distance Indicators". One each 5 km is not enough for me sometimes.
Any idea?

Hello,
I really don't understand the way these "distance indicators" works . It seem to depende of the track.
Here is another track, there is "distance indicators" each kilometers :

(https://mini.ouplo.com/16/c/PkWB.jpg) (https://full.ouplo.com/16/c/PkWB.jpg)

Is it possible that lenght of tracks is the root cause?
105 km => few "distance indicators"😒
55 km => "distance indicators" each kilometer🙂

I'm really thinking that there is something around the lenght of the track.
I modify a track of 93 km which have "distance indicators" each kilometers.
I add 7 kilometers to bring it to 100 km => the "distance indicators" are now each 5 kilometers. 😒🤔.
Help!

Yes, that has always been the case. <100km: you have these indicators every km; > 100km: every 5km or 25km depending on zoomlevel

New beta published.
None in particular. From 100 km per Track the painting of the map could slow down. But it is very dependent on the capabilities of the phone. It seemed like a reasonable number to me. But it is true that many bike routes can be longer. I'll expand it...

Thanks Orux for the new beta!

Could you consider creating a menu item in which to choose how many kilometers a distance marker is inserted within the route?

In general, could you consider it could be useful to create different profiles dedicated to different activities? Hiking, mountain biking and driving a car are different activities that require many different settings. So when you create a walking track, it is useful to have distance markers and voice alerts every kilometer, and certain data displayed in the dashboard. On the other hand, when you go by bike or by car you need a different overall behavior of the application (and also a different mapsforge style). All this many and different information could be inserted into different profiles so as to be quickly and easily applied all together when needed.

Hello!

Sorry, until now the app did not fully support RTL languages. In the next beta (beta31) I have set the minimum SDK level to 17, with which I can activate the RTL support. But this changes a lot of things in the interface! now everything changes from right to left with RTL languages. You may find new artifacts.

This beta also includes major changes to the map calibration tool.

using b31 (or b28) on Android11 two strange thing when I wish to share statistic of a recorded track:
1.recoderd track has a thumbnail, but you lose it when you select "share a screen capture with the Track statistics", that is there is only a useless square edged with red
2.  taken screen capture upload a online map I never used, as  I work with offline  openandromaps and I'd prefer that statitics use this map

What happens when you create an offline map from an online map?

If you go to settings-->application storage-->maps directory, and you select a folder, does the app warn that it can't write when you make the selection?

That place is for the picture you have selected in your user profile, not for the thumbnail, because the track can be seen in the map below.

The map always was an online map, but in next versions you will be able to load any map.

Hello Orux,
the path to my oruxmaps directory is '/storage/62..-..../oruxmaps' and so my standard map folder is '/storage/62..-..../OruxMaps/mapfiles/'. I have an alternative maps directory '/storage/emulated/0/oruxmaps/mapfiles/' (which is standard an Android < 11).

Creating an offline map from an online map works perfectly -> the map is in my standard maps folder on the external storage.
No warnings come up when I select a folder in my oruxmaps folder on the external storage.

After playing around with the standard profile, I found out that 'Image to map' works when I use the maps folder on my internal storage as standard maps folder. The error only appears when I have set a folder on my external storage as standard maps folder.

If you don't see the map, then the app can't read the database.

Android has long used file systems where size does not matter.

If you store the maps on an external SD, check the file system it uses. If it is FAT32 then the problem is the size of the file. That file system does not support it.

It's an old problem with the damn Android SAF. The app cannot create files on the SD in the old style.

The version I just uploaded does the same thing as the map maker, creates them on internal storage and then tries to move them to SD.

Hello Orux,
I found two problems with the Wikimedia Commons pictures:

1. When I use this function, the photo waypoints are shown for half a second, then they disappear. I have to remove the overlay and repeat this a few times until the waypoints are shown permanently. Sometimes it does not work at all.

2. Once again the problem with the Android SAF: when the picture directory is  on the external SD card and I want to load the Wikimedia picture, the app says 'Fetching the image from the internet, wait ...' but nothing happens. With the picture directory on the internal memory loading the picture works perfectly.

Hello,

I've got a question about Track Statistics.
I don't understand the parameters called "Ascending Distance" and "Descending Distance"
Can you have a look at the picture below? I'm talking about numbers 61.84 km and 85.26 km:
(https://mini.ouplo.com/16/f/RrsR.jpg) (https://full.ouplo.com/16/f/RrsR.jpg)
I put in attached the GPX file.

On other tracks these values are at 0. When I use the function "Correct Altitude" these values change and seem OK. If I use one more time this function on this file the values change again in a large amount.
It seems something goes wrong with these parameters.

That value is new, the old tracks does not have that value calculated, because of that is the 0 in old tracks.

Hello,

Now it seems to be OK. I will make more recordings and I will be back to tell more.

Is there an easy way to force Oruxmaps to compute these 2 values "Ascending Distance" and "Descending Distance" on old tracks?
I do this by using the function "Correct Altitude" but I'm not sure it's the cleverest way.
Is there a solution to compute these numbers without changing others data of the tracks?

Regards

PS:
The function "Simplify" compute the tracks and gives us too a number for these 2 parameters even there was "0" before.

Hello, in my today test (track almost without flat path) with RC3 statistic are very right :D

original track D+ 513m ascending 4,3 km + descending 5,1 km   very near 9,5 total km reported in statistics

correct altitude  radius 4  <-- in my opinion this is the best correction for slow path (by mtb or foot)
corrected D+ 474m  ascending 4,6 km + descending 4,8 km very near 9,5 total km reported in statistics

correct altitude  radius 4 + semplified track  value 20
corrected D+ 458m  ascending 4,3 km + descending 5,1 km very near 9,5 total reported in statistics

Thank you for your great job 8)

When I use OruxMaps on main screen (where I can see the map) during my bike travels the smartphone doesn't lock the screen; it switches off only. It's a very good thing.
Therefore, if use the "trip computer view", the smartphone locks the screen after a few times. I have to enter my code to unlock it. It's annoying and dangerous (no more eyes on the road).

I have to looking for the parameter on my phone to avoid this locking screen issue  :( :-\.

NB :
If I activate the "Screen Always On" option in Oruxmaps and if I switch of the screen by pressing the power button the issue is there.

Regards.

Problem rendering Zoom-IN and OUT of Garmin maps

Hello Orux,
I didn't notice it before, but surely in previous stable versions it was not there.
Zooming-IN and OUT of Garmin maps, at certain zoom levels the maps are rendered corrupted as herein attached.
I think it is bug of this RC3

Hola Orux,

I have the same Problem that Andrea65 reportet in Post above with mbtiles-maps in RC3. There the maps have big black parts like missing tiles. It was not there in beta20 and is also not in 8.5.5GP oder 7.4.24. I also think it must be a bug in RC3.
Regards and thanks for fixing it.

Hello Orux,
I can confirm the bug with the black areas in RC3 (9.0.0 is not available in Play Store for me yet) with OpenAndroMaps. It only occurs when hill shading is activated.
After clearing the raster cache it works fine - but only for a while.

Hi Orux,
for me too, a problem with zoom in/out with RC3.
With the same map and with the same theme on old Orux 7.4 the refuge and path are clearly visible, on another phone with RC3 they do not appear !!
After 3-4 zoom in/out of the area refuge and path magically appear !!

We were two to look at ... and therefore I'm sure of the miracle  :D

Hi Orux,
you closed this BETA section, but the RC3 has significant problems...
I hope you would reconsider to re-open the testing/fixing before putting the new release on the market store.
Regards, Andrea
